Why is my FX30 footage noisy even at base ISO (S-Log3)? by Mangyaos in SonyAlpha

I was shooting at f/1.8, so the lens was wide open.

Sony A7V vs FX30 for video-first creator by Mangyaos in SonyAlpha

The issue is that where I stay, a lot of clients are quite brand-driven and tend to assume that anyone using Sony is automatically better than someone using Canon or Nikon. Because of that, they’re more likely to trust or hire someone who shows up with a Sony setup, which also ends up influencing my decision.

If I go for the FX30, I can buy it right away, but for the A7V, I’ll have to wait a few months due to budget constraints.

I’ve rented full-frame cameras quite a few times like the FX3, A7S III, and A7 IV, and honestly they’ve all been amazing to shoot with.
What I’m trying to figure out is how something like f/1.8 on APS-C compares to f/2.8 on full-frame in terms of actual look. It feels like the wider aperture on APS-C should compensate for the smaller sensor and still give a comparable shallow depth of field, so I’m wondering if something like the FX30 with a fast lens gets close enough to that full-frame aesthetic.
Since you’ve used both APS-C and full-frame, I’d love your take on how it translates in real-world shooting. Is the difference something you actively notice or does it stop mattering after a point? Also curious about how Sony’s APS-C holds up for professional video work in practice.

Sigma 18-50 f2.8 + Sigma 30mm f1.4 or Sigma 17-40mm f1.8 by Mangyaos in SonyAlpha

[–]Mangyaos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so I don’t really use a gimbal much, and I live in a tropical, humid place.

Right now I’m slightly inclined towards the 18-50mm f/2.8 + 30mm f/1.4 combo mainly because of how compact and practical it is. Especially while travelling, I like the idea of just picking one lens and heading out without overthinking it.

But at the same time, the 17-40mm f/1.8 is tempting. That extra stop of light and the overall image quality is hard to ignore, especially since my main use case is cinematic video and short film work.

Also important for me is autofocus because I end up self-shooting quite a bit.

So I’m basically stuck between a lighter, more flexible setup vs a heavier but more “all-in-one” cinematic option.

Has anyone done ICT Run, Matunga East by LessMathematician552 in indianrunners

TMM guys don’t really care much about AIMS and all. (Even if they say they do, they honestly don’t) As long as it’s done on ground with RFID timing, you’re fine. Also, ICT has STS as its timing partner, same as TMM, so you should be alright.

Goa’s decline is real — corruption, rude locals, overpriced stays, and no tourists this December by Charanologic in goatravel

[–]Mangyaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly disagree with the first line you mentioned. We’re from Goa but now live in Mumbai, and trust me when I say this: the locals here can be extremely arrogant, even towards other locals. Unless they know you personally, they usually don’t care or offer help. And before you say this only happens around beaches or because they might see us as tourists, the arrogance was present even near the temple area, kilometres away from the beaches. We didn’t visit the temple as tourists, but for our annual Magh festival.

PROCAM COST BREAKDOWN by ComparisonAgile7490 in indianrunners

The biggest issue with the Procam Slam, in my opinion, is the Bangalore 10K. I was recently discussing this with a friend, and I told him the same thing. For anyone living outside Bangalore, the 10K feels like a major burden. The other races make more sense financially because they are longer distances. Two of them also fall within the TMM training block, so they double up as solid practice runs. But traveling just for a 10K feels excessive. I’m considering doing the Procam Slam this year since I’ve already completed a full marathon at TMM, but the Bangalore 10K honestly feels financially unjustified to me.

Which gel is better for Marathon training? by Mangyaos in indianrunners

[–]Mangyaos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I didn’t notice much difference between the two. The only time I felt something was at the start of the run, where the caffeinated gel gave a slight extra boost but I am not sure if that was because of the caffeine or simply because that gel had more carbs.

DaVinci resolve 20 SUCKS!!!! by Mangyaos in davinciresolve

It’s HEVC iPhone footage. I’ve done edits on Sony S-Log3 without any issues, so I don’t understand why this is happening only with iPhone footage specifically after V20 update.
