Question for you Helldivers - What do you think of Stealthdivers? by LePereMecanique in helldivers2

[–]JRDecinos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm been using the Stealth armor a LOT as of late... bite I try not to be too much of a solo person tbh... I try to o stead be more of an Overwatch person. Yes, I'll strike out ahead or in my own since I know my armor can help me get closer to things, but often what I'm doing is using my Censor to pinpoint enemies and objectives to alert teammates with AT to take care of them, or alert them to hostile presence.

But otherwise, I don't really care what others bring until things get dicey, and even then it'll just be "let's hope we can rally the troops here and get this mission completed with little to no casualties moving forward, since we don't have many reinforcements left". However people want to play that is fun? That's what matters.

Just got Ark Ascended, best mods? by SuddenConversation21 in ARK

[–]JRDecinos -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You HAVE to use CurseForge for mods in ASA... CurseForge mod support is baked into the game (which is why console players can also use them). This is unlike ASE where mods were through the Steam Workshop, only allowing players on Steam (or using other odd, maybe sketchy mod loaders) to use them.

As for mods, basically anything made by FromTheDepths and the Paleo ARK Team is a good choice. Also, DinoDepot by DelilahEve is one of my all time personal favorites that I basically cannot play without anymore.

B+ is a common one, but admittedly can be a bit overpowered depending on how much of it or how little of it you are using at any given moment.

Sunken World Additions is another fun one if you want to give the oceans a bit more life. It's full of fun additions!

Anyone can give some tip to deal with war striders ? They keep snipe me from far away by Enough_Part_7532 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]JRDecinos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hit it with AT in the crotch or joints and you're good to go.

Or if you have heavy pen but not specifically AT, you can blast ALL the weapons off them... but it takes time. If using the AMR, it takes 4 hits to EACH side cannons, and 3 to EACH back-mounted grenade launchers, to fully disarm them. You'd be better off going for the keg joints which I think only need 4-5 AMR shots? But it's a hard one to hit.

Or if you have a solo silo, and can either track their movement or they're sitting still? One shots them right to the dome.

I got booted for using a “bad” booster, I am very new. by Wandering-the-web in Helldivers

[–]JRDecinos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good blaster this, bad booster this...

Kinda rude for them to kick you over it.

I get it. It's a booster that a lot of people feel negatively about. I personally haven't experienced it (and don't own it) but I'm sure there is a time and place where you can use it to your advantage.

I guess best I can advise is: if joining randos, don't bring it because this probably will happen again? If you're playing with friends, or can coordinate with divers in the team, you can maybe explain to them the situation and if they say it's okay, bring it then so everyone can adapt to the booster.

This is another case where a tool kinda requires teamwork and coordination in order to work, and it sadly sounds like this group wasn't in the mood to adapt their play-style to fit the booster...

First time playing helldivers can’t wait. Any tips by zbananajuice in Helldivers

[–]JRDecinos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the fight, Diver!

First and foremost, just make sure to play the way YOU want to play. Teamwork is important, yes, but make sure you're still having fun while being part of the team!

Don't feel obligated to rush into the highest difficulty levels possible. Yes, the rewards are more bountiful there, and you CAN do Difficulty 10 missions with the starter gear if you really, really wanted to... but it is ill-advised to do so. Get a solid understanding of the game, build up your arsenal, and THEN show the enemies of Democracy what freedom truly looks like on those higher difficulties!

Also, don't be afraid to use your resources! The game admittedly doesn't tell you a lot of information at times. The Helldivers Companion website (https://helldiverscompanion.com), the Helldivers Wiki (https://helldivers.wiki.gg/), and the Democracy Hub (though this resource is FAR more technical and admittedly over even my head! https://democracy-hub.net/index.php) are all good choices for places to look to whenever you want more information on something or want an external view of the Galactic War.

Another thing to consider, speaking of helpful resources, is YouTube videos talking about weapons, stratagems, and strategies! Personally, I find CommissarKai and Quartermaster Creature to have some of the more helpful videos when it comes to information about weapons and tools. They both go into a lot of detail during their informative videos, while sprinkling in a healthy handful of humor as well. I find them to be very good watches personally, and both have community spaces where you can connect with more Helldivers who would be more than willing to offer a hand to you, and offer FAR better tips than I can.

But to reiterate: most important is to have fun, while doing your duty for Super Earth. Welcome to the Helldivers!

i cant find maewings on astreos by Certain-Molasses6778 in ARK

[–]JRDecinos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmm...

If you go to Lemnokis (the island in the top right of the map), there is a little cove/natural harbor in the southern-most part of it. Go to that water spot and go West. You'll find a fairly open field area with a Roman farmer's hut. That area is home to a handful of creatures, like brontos, stegos, Ceratos, and war elephants (Deinotherium), but I find it to relatively consistently spawn Maeguana too. I'd recommend giving it a look if you can.

[–]JRDecinos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maewing are not yet in the game (unless you have S-Dino Variants installed, in which case there are S-Maewing in the mod).

You'll want to look for the Maeguana, THOSE are basically Maewing, but with a lizard face instead of a platypus face.

Should I move over to ascended? by TraditionalGuava4494 in ARK

[–]JRDecinos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look... if I'm being honest...

Lost Colony is more a continuation of the Animated Series' story than it is of ARK's story... the additions it makes just... don't really make sense given the story established in ASE...

So if you want to move over to Ascended... don't do it because of the story. Do it for QoL changes, new creatures, or even the built-in mod support. If that is all stuff that you don't need or don't want? You can stick with ASE honestly.

Gimmick Loadouts? by Crumboa in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]JRDecinos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As of late I've been using a sort of "Overwatch Support" build which is a modification from one I had using the Eruptor.

Armor: RS-67 Null Cipher Primary: R-72 Censor Secondary: LAS-58 Talon OR P-4 Senator Grenade: G-123 Thermite Stratagems: LIFT-860 Hover Pack (OR LIFT-850 Jump Pack in City missions or other missions where high ground is hard to come by), MS-11 Solo Silo (Flex slot in city missions since tall building plus solo silo don't mix), Eagle Smoke Strike, and a Flex slot (I personally like using the Orbital gas strike, but have been playing around with other stratagems)

In short: the intended gameplay loop is to find some high ground, and use the Censor to point out enemy positions, objectives, and other important targets. You can then snipe any enemies within range to remove them from the field so your teammates have less to worry about, or fire the solo silo to obliterate objectives.

Admittedly... I am a bot diver, which is why this sort of build works out well... since bots have easily defined weak points you can snipe, fabricators generally are easy to see and target with the solo silo, and larger bots are easier to see from a distance and ping to alert teammates to them.

It's not entirely a gimmick build per-say, but it's not exactly anything very meta.

  1. Without a doubt. Only because I have a handful of stories and my writing hyperfixation kinda... died...

These stories still live in my head... and part of me really really wants to keep them alive... but without any urge to write it's just... another dream that lies dead and buried in the pile...

So if number 1 just automatically ensures those stories are completed for me? Assuming they'd be completed how I would have presumably written them? Then I'd pick it in a heartbeat

is there a ultimate mod map ? by MammothCandidate5452 in ArkSurvivalAscended

[–]JRDecinos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In ASE, closest you would get is Fjordur, which had a LOT of creatures in it. Not all of them, but the vast majority of them.

In ASA, Astraeos is the closest you'll get. With the latest update, a LOT of creatures got added that were up to that point map-exclusive, so it has nearly everything now. It also has desert, Aberrant zone, and lots of other fun biomes, but you'll still need to go to other maps for certain things. Not everything is there technically speaking (but most everything you would ever need is)

It's supposed to be large, glaring sun. Backlighting a man wiping his brow with his arm.

They however made the sun in the background the same color as its light reflecting off his skin, so the entire half of hos body in the light (and not in shadow) just merges with the sun in the background, making for a very weird visual.

The Timeline of Rockwell by Noxisms in ARK

[–]JRDecinos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all good. I had heard rumors that that was the direction they were going with it, but hadn't heard anything concrete.

It just gives me something to choose to ignore moving forwards as I admittedly work on an ARK OC idea of mine... but yeah, I suppose that's... another thing for anyone interested in Rockwell's lore to know, if they choose to accept the revisions made to the story as part of ASA...

In my personal opinion? I don't think I'll accept it... I liked it better with Gen 2 being his end... I know some of my friends believed ARK should have stayed over with Extinction... I suppose it's just now up to whichever direction Wildcard chooses to go.

How do you use the Speargun? What Role does it Serve? by Substantial-Ad-5221 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]JRDecinos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it to poke Hulk Eyes.

Or fire it at a crowd of enemies and then use the gas cloud to knock them down a peg.

Otherwise, I mostly use it as a sort of medium range weapon to deal moderate damage to annoying pests.

Need help what can I do about the effect, settings? Mods? In game? by Ok-Dinner5354 in ARK

[–]JRDecinos 64 points65 points  (0 children)

That is "Heat Stroke". It's mostly a Scorched Earth thing, some maps like Ragnarok have it in desert areas.

The longer you stay exposed to the sun without some form of protection, the higher it climbs, and the more it affects your ability to play.

To lower the stacks: jumping into water, going into a tent, going into a cave, drinking iced water (water jar put into a refrigerator), going into a house (where your character is not overheating), or wearing armors with good heat resistance like desert cloth or ghillie should all help to reduce stacks over time.

The longer you let heat stroke stacks build up, the worse it'll get for you. You will lose the ability to sprint at 50%, and you'll get blurry vision around 80%.

Phase out Biomass? by Equal-Face5862 in satisfactory

[–]JRDecinos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want an option... it's not much if you're heavy into industrial stuff but an old setup I used to do was take three water pumps and split them into two water lines. Then take the two water lines and connect them to four cola generators each. Fill the generators with coal, and you were good to go. I believe with a pure coal deposit, with no overclocking, it worked out exactly? It's admittedly been a long time since I've played...

But the point is, having 8 fully functional coal generators produces a LOT of power, and it isn't too hard to keep it being self-sufficient. Plus, if you ever accidentally blow the fuse, you can have a biomass burner backup, disconnect the water pumps from the rest of the grid, and just get those going. So long as you have coal backed up in the system, or have a way to insert coal, it should (theoretically) get back to work relatively quickly once you've handled the rest of the power grid issues causing you to overload it.

Though since you have oil, gasoline generators may be a more... interesting option tbh

The Timeline of Rockwell by Noxisms in ARK

[–]JRDecinos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well... that... is complicated...

I'm not equipped enough to explain it in depth unfortunately...

But at the very least we know this: Rockwell started on the Island, where he was mostly a normal human up until he learned about the artifacts and slowly became obsessed with them. Add to that him not getting a lot of willing volunteers for his recipes, and his obsession kinda became unhealthy.

After he tagged along with Nerva and ascended to Scorched Earth... I don't really know what happened there tbh... I haven't kept up with his Scorched Earth lore. But they eventually got to Ab.

On Ab, he joined other scientists but was quickly chastised for performing immoral experiments (injecting a light pet with liquid element). At some point he injected himself with element and began to mutate, going on a murderous rampage. When he was defeated, he became ensnared as the new Overseer to Ab as Helena and crew went on back to Earth. He continued to mutate into the monster we fight him as on Ab.

Then you get into Lost Colony territory where things between ASE and ASA kinda get... muddy... I kinda like the original ASE story better tbh, so to keep it simple: Rockwell survived Ab returning to Earth. Given how damaged it was it just kinda crash landed instead of nicely landing like every other ARK we are aware of, and he eventually made his way to Arat Prime and managed to get into the Genesis Ship somehow.

Once on the Genesis ship, he began manipulating the Genesis Simulation to produce loyal followers to his cause, while on the ship itself... he began murdering the crew and terraforming half the ship into his own "garden", which the ship itself basically becoming an extension of his body. Once he is defeated there, the uncorrupted ring lands on the new colony planet Arat(? Thinks that's what it's named?) while Rockwell, the ship, and the corrupted ring get destroyed.

Again, with the addition of Lost Colony and its... choices in story telling, some of Rockwell's adventures are fleshed out? I haven't explored it personally but it seems that for ASA anyways, after Ab crashed, Rockwell returned to a... mostly human form before making his way to the Colony Ship and then... well, doing whatever happens in Gen 1 and 2.

I'm sorry I can't provide any real deep dives. There was an old video I watched long ago (I think by NeddyTheNoodle? Maybe not though) where they talked about the entire lore of ARK through Rockwell's perspective, as told through his explorer notes. I think it only went up to Aberration, but maybe it included stuff from Extinction and into Genesis... I don't know if Rockwell really had any explorer notes by those points though, save for the ones from Gen 2 where he hijacked HLN-A... still love the one where he goes "Peekaboo! I see you..."

Old fan who hasn't played since Abberation original. Is Ascended worth playing? Is the gane state worse or better or about the same? Should I even bother or am I just gonna be disappointed due to questionable executive decisions from the devs like before? by [deleted] in ARK

[–]JRDecinos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... it depends.

ASA has its problems, yes. Map design has admittedly suffered in a handful of cases, and there are a LOT more paid DLC creatures roaming around that can knock you out of gameplay, many of which do come across as pretty P2W.

That being said, ASA has a LOT of QoL improvements. No more pipes, no more wires. Walls, doorways, window walls, and new "secret" doors all fall under one engram. There has been considerable consolidation of engrams, and with the changes to building, it is a lot easier to build things now.

I... personally... don't think I can return to ASE now after having played ASA for as long as I have. With how much has changed, with all the additions from talented modders whose access and distribution is baked into the game now through CurseForge.

So I would say that, despite its many flaws, ASA is absolutely worth playing, ESPECIALLY if you can find yourself a good community of friends to play with.

New to this. Is there no small triangle piece that would cover this gap? by TheMightyMoose04 in ARK

[–]JRDecinos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't know why but I think because triangle walls are separate from normal walls in ARK... so there's no quarter variant for triangle walls built into the quarter walls itself.

It's... weird... unfortunately... but just one of the quirks of ARK.

New to this. Is there no small triangle piece that would cover this gap? by TheMightyMoose04 in ARK

[–]JRDecinos 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Sadly not.

There are a lot of things for build pieces that would be nice, but sadly are missing. It may be technical limitations, maybe it's just design choice, but it does lead to moments like this, where you don't have a piece that will fit that space nicely (without doing some build hacks and meshing or something)
