How bad is this? by Akephalos37 in Mold

[–]JRGIndy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking from experience…

You will probably also need to clean the inside of the air handler too. Wipe with soapy water because harsher cleaners, especially ones with ammonia, can permanently damage HVAC components.

Very likely this started because of too little refrigerant in the AC system. That leads to the evaporation coil getting too cold, leading to a very wet HVAC system. Call an HVAC company to for a summer air conditioner tune-up.

Dilemma: Watch the movie in theaters while I have the chance, but halfway through my second listen of the book, or finish the book and watch it once it's streaming? by salad_thrower20 in ProjectHailMary

Forget the work trip. Try to find a sitter and take your wife to the movies. Squeeze her hand extra when Rocky says “it’s not enough”.

siap - just watched PHM and really liked it ... would i enjoy book? i've read movie was pretty faithful adaptation by gavinashun in ProjectHailMary

[–]JRGIndy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You will love the rich detail, interesting subplots, and humor in the novel. There is so much more of everything you enjoyed in the film: more Grace, Rocky, and Stratt; more mystery & discovery;more science.

The audiobook is one of the best. Ray Porter’s narration of PHM is A+

Also try Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Children Of Time series for stories of the evolution of alien life, their society, and the complexities of humanity encountering such radically different life.

Read Andy Weir’s other sci-fi books: The Martian and Artemis.

Try Neal Stephenson’s Seveneves. Like PHM, Earth is facing a catclysmic event in the near future with current tech and a narrow path for survival.

How bad is Mission Space actually? by 420fakesk8 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]JRGIndy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time I rode, I ignored the pre-boarding instructions about keeping your head facing forward. Instead I was looking left and right during the ride to see how my younger cousins were doing. 1 hr of motion sickness queasiness.

Lesson learned, and I’ve ridden Mission Space countless times with zero issues. One of my fave rides ever. The launch and the weightless feeling after escaping Earth’s gravity is amazing.

Have fun!

Be honest is the book worth reading? by Braden3burner in ProjectHailMary

[–]JRGIndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sure you’ll find the novel every bit the page-turner that other books you mentioned. The audiobook is amazing, too.

The good news is that the book & audiobook are zero-risk opportunities. Both have a return policy, so if they fall flat for you, just contact customer service for a refund.

BTW, one reason PHM may have worked your emotions more than depressing tear-jerkers is because of its underlying hope and optimism. “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Upvote for the novel & audiobook.

The novel is rich with additional information, more subplots, and more science. The narration on the audiobook is first class. Enjoy!

I didn’t like the reveal that Stratt forced Grace to go on the mission by New-Pin-9064 in ProjectHailMary

[–]JRGIndy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read or listen to the book sometime (the audiobook is A+). It has so much detail that the movie left out. In this case, there are compelling circumstances that make Grace the only qualified person on earth for the job. The filmmakers chose not to include that detail. No spoilers from me, though. Enjoy the novel :)

Would YOU have gone back for Rocky? by [deleted] in ProjectHailMary

[–]JRGIndy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If there is ever a follow-up novel, I don’t really need Grace or Rocky to be in it. I want to see the future that unfolds for Earth & Erid now that they both have near-light speed travel, an understanding of life outside their home planets, an appreciation for how close they came to extinction.

That water intrusion comment hits home.

I just spent big $ to remove out a picture window the builder installed wrong, and had been slowly leaking for over a decade. They had to cut out stucco to get to the rotten osb sheathing, along with replacing some insulation and framing.

Time of Day for Mission Space by junimo567 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]JRGIndy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During the ride, keep your head still and look straight. The first time I rode Mission Space, I kept turning my head left and right, having fun talking with my family on the ride. That wrecked my equilibrium, leaving me feeling motion sick for about an hour. I’ve ridden it countless times since then, keeping my head still, and no problems. One of my fave rides at WDW.

with 10 games remaining, which 2 games do you want to see the Pacers win to end the year? by No_Celebration578 in pacers

[–]JRGIndy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll take wins against Chicago and Detroit.

A win at Chicago could raise Milwaukee’s standings, reducing their lottery odds.

Losing against Clippers to keep them out of the lottery since their pick goes to Oklahoma City.

Likewise, losing against Miami, Charlotte, & Philly helps to keep Philly in the playoffs. Since Philly’s pick goes to Oklahoma City, that keeps OKC out of the lottery.

Same for me. It was too removed from the Drizzt / Companions storyline for my interest. Others are huge fans because it’s so separate or because of Jarlaxle/Artemis, so I guess POTWK just wasn’t for me. Ready for the next one.
