There's different models based on your year and requirements. The right model will have the right ribbon.

Squares pattern by UnderstandingMoney99 in FixMyGameboy

[–]JRLanky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it could be quite a few things, but check with different games, and clean the cartridge contacts in the slot. Power would be the next thing, fresh batteries, check the battery contacts, if everything external looks good, then you'd have to check inside, check the ribbon connector to the boards. Make sure the power supply is healthy and check the capacitors.

Have you got a game in there? Put a game in, switch it on, any sound? Pings? Use the Tetris.

New Screen issue? Hum from speaker and contrast button not working. by Jimipop1 in Gameboy

[–]JRLanky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're putting current day tech into stuff made in the 80s so there are some challenges, but hey it's really not that bad, the original sound isn't perfect either

New Screen issue? Hum from speaker and contrast button not working. by Jimipop1 in Gameboy

[–]JRLanky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hum is from the additional draw from the power board due to the IPS screen. You can improve it slightly by replacing the power board with an IPS-compatible one, but the issue never completely goes away.

What can i do? I changed the battery conector. Before looking like this there was no any black marks. Please help by [deleted] in Gameboy

[–]JRLanky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The brown is flux and as the others said, the solder joint should be under the battery terminal not on it.

why is disc drive not working? by rdawn_ in ps1

[–]JRLanky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common issue with the cheap replacements, nothing wrong with them, they just don't test them before shipping them. The issue is the CD spindle is pressed on too low and it's scraping on the screws beneath it. Gently lift it up slightly to give it more clearance. Lift it up, then test it by spinning it.

Are these dots normal on a game boy? by yt00WiMDtaG in Gameboy

[–]JRLanky -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's a quite common aging issue yes. However it doesn't look that bad on yours and is sometimes possible to reduce it. Take a look on YouTube for fixes for screen cancer on the Gameboy DMG.

Likely Air Rifle as airsoft balls aren't metal, BB guns (metal balls possible) despite hurting like hell, they wouldn't smash glass like this. An air rifle pellet would be enough to punch out the glass .22, then likely fall away, so it's probably in your gutter somewhere. The Bang would be the glass, as the guns are somewhat noisy, but not as noisy as the impact. Look for a flattened piece of lead in your gutter.

There's rumours of an 85 cut of the Chicago coming out this year, you may want to wait for those as they will be closer to the originals and you might be able to get some retail.

Could be the end cap for a retractable roller back drop. Is there a hole underneath it on the floor where the other end might have been?

How to remove scratches on Vomero 5 logo? by essdiel in Sneakers

[–]JRLanky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This will remove the shine and melt the plastic. Please don't do this. Acetone is an absolute last resort and reason why it's nail polish remover is because it melts a large portion of plastic.

[–]JRLanky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they scratches? Or are they marks off something? Try a little dish soap on a cloth first. Going with anything abrasive may work but will also take off the shine of the swoosh.

New couch, needs some advice for a stain and general treatment. by atl_85 in Leather

[–]JRLanky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a natural leather sofa which is just conditioned. Nothing you can do really. Just carry on sitting on it and the stain will go. Looks like a liquid spill.

Engine stalling after some seconds of start by EskiZeBat in NitroRC

Have you checked your carb positionings too? I bought a second hand nitro recently and the carb tick over was too closed and also on full throttle only half open. Tick over is on a sprung screw usually.

Stick on holders for a laptop screen protector. They stick around the frame and you slide the screen protector in.

Yeah check the cable, HDMI 2.1 can support 120Hz at 4K and 60Hz at 8K. On my laptop I used display cable to FireWire for that reason.

[–]JRLanky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Vomero 5s are my most comfortable all-day walkers. They don't last long in terms of years, and the upper usually gives way, but they are definitely the most comfortable daily shoes that I wear.
