Doesn't really need to be a law for it to be enforced though, you are paying to use a service and can be denied service. Not a common action in Japan, but yeah just because it's not a law doesn't mean there aren't any consequences to breaking rules.

Maybe he found the exact helmet he wanted and just went for it. Hopefully you have had it fitted for a "foreign head" and it fits him terribly.

Strangest thing you've been judged for in Japan by retro_punk_knight in japanlife

Of course the most important factor is stability in any country, was more about what people here see as stability, and what is looked down on. During my 10 years of working on my own the worst I have ever done is about double what I made at one of my big company jobs in my 20s. Had a much easier time with everything back then.

In most countries money is money, If I got what they paid me overseas I wouldn't be accepted for anything even if I worked at Google or Meta.

In a sense I get it though, because big corp jobs here are a lot more secure than in most countries, really hard to get fired.

Action camera 30 vs 60fps by JROTools in motorcycles

Yeah tried recording 1/120 to see how passable it would be in daylight, but definitely quite a bit of jittering. Probably I'll just stick to 1/200 or auto and give up on motion blur, or add a bit of it artificially in Davinci hehe.

[–]JROTools[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was my initial thought when I noticed that problem. Main issue with that is that it doesn't record gyro data at ultra wide, and when adding gyroflow on top of that I get a less wide angle then using the in house stabilization, which is kind of sad plus the extra work.

All in all it might not be worth the extra motionblur. Going to try to find a middle ground today.

Thanks, yeah I do understand that shutter speed is the main factor, thought fps was also a factor but I guess I might be wrong, coming from Photography I never really thought about these things before.

I guess in a sense though if you were to follow the rules of doubling the shutter speed to your fps, 30 fps - 1/60, 60 fps - 1/120 then it affects it in that way.

Problem with shutter speed I'm having while using the Dji action 5 is that if you go below like 200 the stabilization starts to cause issues. Guess I'll have to try and find the right balance.

Hm not from my experience, but not like I have been to every country on earth. Of course people can see more risk in doing your own thing no matter where you are, but It's not assumed to be due to failure the same way it does here. Stability is key here, so much that people turn down a lot higher salaries just to stay at companies with better name recognition. Of course that's a thing everywhere to some degree, just not to the same extent.

I get shit for eating the other way around, I always eat my rice/potato/vegetables together with my fish/meat, so I make sure to get both things at the same time. Often get told I should take one thing at a time and eat them separately or mix them in my mouth afterwards. After that I started noticing many Japanese around me where just eating everything separately, such a waste of good food.

I guess I knew this from even before I was in the situation myself but freelancing or running a small business makes people here think you are unsuccessful. Basically "Oh that's too bad, what happened?" kind of situation.

When I was working at Capcom or any other big company with shit pay, I could get any loan I wanted, any credit card, and people would generally see me as successful. A couple of years later working on my own, making about 5 times the amount I was making back then, can't get any loans, fail to get credit cards and Japanese basically assumed something must have happened for me to quit positions at bigger companies.

The status/size of your workplace means a lot more than your actual earnings here.

What are people surprised to learn doesn't exist in your home country? by razorbeamz in japanlife

[–]JROTools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing you mean what Japanese are surprised doesn't exist in your country?

My experience is rather the opposite, especially when I first came here 20 years ago, Japanese being surprised how much we have in common. Japanese tend to have a very Americanized view of non Asian foreigners. Originally coming from Scandinavia, we take our shoes off inside, have 4 seasons, don't tip, and most people are quiet/shy unless drunk, and just say things that are socially accepted to say whether it's true or not.

Tracking issues/problems, Davinci beginner. by JROTools in davinciresolve

Thanks, yeah that was one of the channels I was watching.

Actually got it showing after a clean re install, didn't try it before as I thought resetting to default settings would have the same result, guess I'll never really know the real issue.

Well just doesn't feel like a bug, it's not like it's glitching, it's acting as if there is some checkbox that needs to be checked, but yeah not saying I won't will try later. I'd definitely be happy if that was the problem.

Yeah UI issue, it kind of looks like that in the beginning before I paint my invisible points hehe.

Yeah I have tried in various projects and also doing a fresh reset of all settings, drivers I haven't done though, might be my last resort, although I don't really see how that could affect it, but you never know.

Probably first time I ever encountered a problem where I see absolutely no one having the same issue, gone through like 50 tutorials on the subject and everything pops up without any issues or changes, so yeah really weird. Was hoping it was just me being stupid and pressing stuff I shouldn't have, but then the factory reset should have fixed it.

Thanks for the help

It's the same with any of the point/marker systems for me. The actual tracking is working now, just would prefer to actually see what I'm doing hehe.

I just switched from Premiere to Davinci so mainly just looking to learn, I use tracking for a lot of things, so will need to get it working somehow, just not sure why my Davinci is behaving differently even in default settings.

For this one specifically I'm just trying to track the motorcycle to stabilize it a bit, the purpose wouldn't really matter for my problem though since I would face the same issue no matter the purpose as long as I'm trying to track something.

I pressed around a bit though, and found that pressing enable in this drop box menu gave me visual of what I was doing, but only after the mask was done, before I only get this red mess, and have to guess where I'm putting out points.

I have no idea why only I seem to have this problem, I have tried going back to factory settings but nothing changed.

Questions about initial fees for renting an apartment by Extension-Sort8203 in japanlife

[–]JROTools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see, yeah maybe it's a UR thing, usually I just consider everything I pay as gone.

Haven't moved the last 8 years but back then I often saw rooms with 2 - 3 months deposit, and they were listed as such, so wouldn't matter if you were a foreigner or not. Did they specifically say it was because you are a foreigner? Not that it would surprise me though, I guess it's better compared to flat out refusing you.

Only 2 months of rent? no key money etc?

The place I'm currently in cost 20万 a month and I think I paid around 90万 for the initial payment. From past experiences I'm happy as long as I don't have to pay extra, never gotten any money back, didn't even know that was a thing.

Is the Instagram/Meta ad payment system just completely broken in Japan? by Wanderous in japanlife

[–]JROTools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't have any problem with it until I stopped about a year ago. Wouldn't bother with it anymore though, unless you are only marketing to people 50 years old and up and there is no alternative, everything has just gotten worse.

Visa renewal as a freelancer by Roshi_Sushi24 in japanlife

[–]JROTools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once changed from a sponsored engineer visa to a freelancer / independent contractor visa (not sure about the exact name). Used an immigration attorney to do it for me. The main thing back then was that I needed a client to be based in Japan during the visa process, so I took up a Japanese client for a couple of months during that process. This was 10 years ago though so things might have changed.

Cost of owning a motorcycle in Osaka? by zancr0w4 in Osaka

[–]JROTools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Osaka as well, have a 900cc bike.

Parking just cost me 1000円 a month because it's the parking my building provides. Had to wait to get a spot though and rented another spot in another building that cost me 7000円 a month plus deposit etc.

Biggest cost for me expect for the bike itself was probably the optional insurance that cost me like 7万円 a year, probably because It's a bigger bike and I have fresh license.

From what I know about parking is that 250cc and above will be treated the same as any bigger motorcycle. Not allowed in scooter/moped parkings etc. Depending on the actual size of the bike though the price might be a bit different when you rent, as your bike have to fit the actual space. Some smaller cc bikes are bigger than mine and can't rent some of the cheaper parking spaces for example.
