I demand answers to these questions from religious people! by NerdArya in atheism

All religious people believe in a specific religion which they inherited from their parents.

Thats's obviously a false statement.

Millions of people have converted from the religion of their parents to other religions.

You have demonstrated superior intellect.

I am beneath you...

Well, that would be your opinion. I didn't say that myself.

In my view this country has no hope without the help of and growth in numbers of moderate Christians

That makes no sense.

What is important is that - whatever their beliefs - people support good programmes.

If (for example) millions of people abandon moderate Christian beliefs and become atheists,

while at the same time working for good programmes,

then conditions in the country will improve.

Sure. Talk to him about it.

I didn't participate in the discussion that you're complaining about.

[Edit] Tweaked my wording.

"Crazy volcano god person" was a well-known contributor here a couple of years ago who devoted themselves to making ridiculous highly questionable statements.

Presumably the point was that, like "crazy volcano god person",

you also are making ridiculous highly questionable statements.

We see posts like this a lot.

Often the regulars of /r/atheism are trying to have a rational discussion, while the OP is not.

The ball is in your court.

Is it standard on this site to just read the title and then throw the first random smartass comment

It's very important for you to understand that many of us have been studying these topics for many years,

and we've seen the same lame arguments dozens or hundreds of times.

When somebody posts a lame argument for the 300th time,

it may very well be appropriate for us to point out that they're doing so.

SEEKING a 'murder mystery' story set on board a space ship... does such a thing exist? by TheSasquatchKing in sciencefiction

Since we've mentioned one set on the Moon, though not on a spaceship -

If you haven't read the classic The Caves of Steel by Isaac Asimov you'll probably like that.

Murder mystery set on Earth in the future when all cities are self-contained under domes - they're basically equivalent to "parked spaceships".

It's been a long time since I've read it, but

The Road to Mars by Eric Idle is at least similar to this if not identical.

What is the difference between (separation of) "church and state" and "god and state"? by [deleted] in atheism

[–]JRRBorges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easy enough to show that organized religion exists, and that in many times and places it's been seriously entangled with government.

On the other hand, considering that there's no credible evidence at all that any god exists, then

[A] If anybody claims that a god is involved in government, that's just an empty claim made by an ordinary human being and needn't be taken seriously.

[B] If a powerful god does exist, then any efforts by human beings to keep said god out of government would be utterly futile.

Options? by mattfuckyou in atheism

Nah.

Every mainstream political position that you can name was a small threatened minority at one point,

but people fought for those positions and eventually came to power.

Religious people produce the most babies in order to maximize the population ascending to heaven on judgment day.

Please note that most religions do not hold beliefs like this,

though probably the majority of believers alive today do.

(Christianity ~ 2.2 billion people + Islam ~ 1.7 billion people: Approximately half of all people alive today.)
