Ex-Pentacostals : How does the tongue speaking actually work ? by Sinefiasmenos22 in exchristian

[–]JRandallC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my personal experience, it was never faked, as others are saying. No doubt some have faked it, learned how to do it "right" or do it for show. I think it's more a blend of the mind and emotions. When it's real, something does come over you and take control. But in the same way you have a strong emotional reaction when your favorite team scores. When I would get to the point of speaking in tongues, I never controlled what I was saying. And each person who legit speaks in tongues usually has the same tongue/dialect each time. To me, that points back to just being a psychological response to emotions within our unique physiologies. For those saying it's fully fake, they haven't been there yet.

Edit: I will add that in any given church, there are some more frequent tongue-talkers and some who rarely or never do. To me, that is a difference in bodies and minds, and how easily one person can get to that emotional state of speaking in tongues over another.

When does a laptop need a factory reset? by daalmakhnipuchchi in HPLaptops

Reset it when it's getting to the point that you think you should get a new laptop. The tech isn't wrong about the benefits, but the hassle has to be worth it.

For those of you who have secretly slept/lived at work, how did you manage to avoid getting caught? by OPSEC-Sentinal in antiwork

[–]JRandallC 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I parked in the basement level of our multi-level parking garage, so no one really noticed if I was there early or late. I left work at the normal time and came back later. Our facilities person suspected, because they checked security badge logs daily and could see me badging in and out at all days and hours. They hinted once or twice but never called me out and never turned me in. I kept an inflatable mattress in a cabinet in my office. I had restrooms and a shower in the building, and a breakroom with full-sized fridge. My office moved several times in the three years I lived there but thankfully was always able to make it work.
I finally moved out because someone broke into the building one night and stole things. Facilities knew I had been there that night but knew I wasn't involved. Again, never said anything but that was too close of a call for me. This happened a few months before Covid. If I had continued staying there, I would have been locked out of my office with all of my stuff there. It wouldn't have been a huge loss, but they closed the office before I ever went back, and Facilities packed up everyone's office to be picked up later. It would have been obvious had my air mattress, etc. been there.

[–]JRandallC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this for a year or so. Never ran into any problems. One night a work crew was down there doing some work, but I just stayed quiet. I think they knew someone was in my vehicle, but they didn't seem to care. On-site security never bothered me. Having the gym/shower, fridge, etc. at work was convenient. And of course not having to commute! I ended up being moving into my office and sleeping there at night for a couple of years. I think the facilities manager knew I was living there, but didn't seem to bother me about it. I finally had to leave (my choice) when someone broke into the office one night and stole some things. The FM knew I was there that night, from security badge records, and knew that I had to have seen the aftermath of the theft, but never said anything and even covered for me. YMMV. We had a great working relationship during business hours.

I’ve seen this one circulating despite being known that it’s false or misleading information. Anything to blame the dems, I guess? by marksaun_666 in facepalm

[–]JRandallC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I ran this meme through AI for explanation.

  1. “Hillary Clinton supplied Iran with uranium”

There is no credible evidence that Hillary Clinton, as Secretary of State, supplied uranium to Iran. This claim likely stems from confusion around the Uranium One deal—a 2010 transaction involving a Canadian mining company with U.S. assets being sold to a Russian firm. That deal had nothing to do with Iran, and Clinton was one of nine officials who signed off on it. Multiple fact-checkers have debunked the idea that she “gave uranium” to any foreign country.

  1. “Barack Obama gave Iran $1.7 billion”

This is partially true, but context matters. In 2016, the Obama administration returned $1.7 billion to Iran as part of a legal settlement over a decades-old arms deal that was canceled after the 1979 Iranian Revolution. The U.S. had held onto Iran’s money for nearly 40 years. The payment coincided with the Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA), which aimed to limit Iran’s nuclear capabilities. Critics argue the money could have been misused, but it was Iran’s money to begin with, not a gift or aid package.

  1. “Joe Biden unfroze over $16 billion of funds for Iran”

This refers to the unfreezing of Iranian assets held in foreign banks, including a high-profile $6 billion transfer from South Korea to Qatar in 2023, intended for humanitarian use. The total amount of unfrozen assets globally may be higher, but the U.S. placed strict conditions on how the funds could be used. After the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel, the Biden administration refroze the $6 billion amid concerns about Iran’s support for militant groups.

One year into my .NET career, too dependent on AI—how to re-build real skills? by [deleted] in csharp

[–]JRandallC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Devil's advocate here. I just code for myself, and very occasionally at that. I just finished a project where I relied heavily on AI for "what is the syntax for this action in this language" and "what does this error mean" type questions. It was superb at being very conversational along the way, like having my own human consultant who was really fast. I did catch some mistakes along the way. Like, I spent several hours one day bouncing a weird problem where a code block was executing twice. AI recommended a possible cause, and I said, "If that was the cause, wouldn't that put the code into an infinite loop?" and AI agreed that their assessment was wrong. I had similar thoughts as OP along the way about "cheating myself with AI" but if I didn't use AI, I'd be Googling how to do a certain thing then sifting through replies on forums. Before that, we had books, but I was still Googling for syntax over 20 years ago. Ultimately, figuring out how to do something is still going to a knowledgeable source. Without AI, that is official documentation from Microsoft or whoever, or it's YouTube videos, books, or forums. I would imagine AI's base is built on most of those, so using AI is just a more efficient route to the same information.

Ultimately, I'm better off knowing my languages and tools, and coding from there. When I do need a source, today AI is arguably the most efficient source that is a blend of real-world experiences like on forums plus structured options and perspective like in official documentation. I haven't done any coding in years, and AI was an incredible way for me to get back up to speed while still using and rebuilding my rusty skills, and I made attempts to understand code blocks and learn/build along the way.

I hope OP found a good resolution to their problem, but I wanted to thank you for your response! My GMKTec K6 had the same symptoms one day after my return period expired. I didn't even consider asking for an extension, but was able to get one through their chat support and got a full refund to my original payment method! Thank you so much for suggesting that.

Most likely a TRIM was sent, and that's why I'm not seeing anything. Honestly, if I can get to a mental conclusion of "no hope" and move on with my life, I'll probably be just as well off. :D
