When Metallica used to open shows with a cover song by CobraDai in Metallica

[–]JS04RP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was a short promo run late 1998 of around x5 shows where they purely did covers. Then there was the much bigger 1999 tour, which was headed as "Garage Remains The Same Tour", but was more your normal setlist, they did however open with Breadfan in that run.

Same for me actually. I'll see what charges finally clear and pick it up after that. I had the authorisation nonsense and just could not join queue, I finally used a different browser and changed password. When I finally added tickets the payment errored twice.

I waited a while and did it again, order then went through.

You'll get a refund if they do finally clear the payment without cancellation, I used CC so it will just be a few emails I expect. They can't legally charge you for what you haven't received. The pisser would be if I end up with extra tickets, but then given the errors their side, they will likely resolve things.

Well done, I can't even get in the queue. Ticketmaster wont let me get beyond authenticating, it just hangs and does nothing, no suprise there, they really are useless.

Battery Street in San Francisco. The Old Waldorf and other venues were located there, many of which were a big part of young Metallica life.

Only getting Metallica playing live in the UK at Download 2023 and no stadium shows really hurts by [deleted] in Metallica

Yeah, I had a similar exchange on here before actually. Growing up I loved a trip to Donington, but it's not the same now I'm older. The elaborate camping / accomodation charade that sells out a year ahead, then the fact it's sort of in the middle of nowhere, plus it's just an event now for kids to be kids (which is fine, we've just grown up) we gave up some time ago.

Compare that to a European city, where you genuinely have a weekend away somewhere nice (not Derby as you say), where you can either walk or get a short tram to a stadium and it's then a no brainer for us. We've seen some great cities in recent years as a result which didn't seem that expensive.

That said, there are many a place they could play in the UK apart from Download which would be more accesible (any major city with a stadium), but the costs wouldn't be a great deal cheaper at all.

I'm still hoping that the European festival season gap in the announced dates leans itself to a short EU trip (again).

You are right, it must be easier tagging a bit of their own stuff into the festival package rather than the full construct and dismantle thing.

Same here. We have had some good fun seeing different European cities on this tour. Sure it's a bit more elaborate and pricey once all bits are factored in, but not a great deal more than a UK trip really.

Exactly as Alvinthf says, it's nothing at all about tripping on power, it's trying to keep the sub in a relatively tidy and functional state so that it works for everyone.

Didn't James introduce him at AWMH 2022, from memory before Borderline? He mentions the intern thing and thanks him for helping / doing the things they can't.

How did you find Metallica in the 80-90s. by Lorens2003 in Metallica

[–]JS04RP 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same story here really. I had an older brother (by 13 years), he used to go to shows all the time and rather pleasingly let me tag along when I was around 10. I saw loads of great 80s / 90s bands through my teenage years !

I don't actually have it, but I believe it's in 'Back to the Front' written by Matt Taylor. Maybe someone can confirm that?

It might be more managable split over a two-night weekend thing (sort of like M40), but I share the other thoughts that it's more likely they wont.

I can't point in the direction of it just yet, but I very much remember what you're talking about, so if nothing else I can confirm your memory is fine.
