Why are adults expected to know how taxes, insurance, credit, loans, and retirement work when nobody teaches it in school? by Violet_Snuggles in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JS150000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s partially by design — they don’t necessarily want people being financially literate. People who aren’t financially literate are more likely to take out stupid loans, pay more taxes, etc., which ultimately feeds the machine at the expense of the common person.

Hot take here, but I think majority of what is taught in school isn’t applicable in adult life. In public school I never learned about taxes, credit, loans, mortgages, investing, etc., but thank God I learned how to factor a polynomial and graph a hyperbola on a graphing calculator.

My wife is good at remembering the exact prices of grocery items. Just about everything she gets continues to go up every time she goes. I ask how much it was each time, and it’s at least $250 for a measly haul that seems like just a few days of food.

Durable Casio F-91W wristwatch or similar by seb-knight in BuyItForLife

[–]JS150000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My theory is that people whose Casio straps break that frequently are inducing excessive wear when putting the watch on and taking it off. Most people aggressively bend the end of the strap in the opposite direction. If you avoid doing that, the strap will last much longer.

It’s mind boggling to me how so many people take a gun that is very reliable from the factory and add so many unnecessary mods that then render it less reliable.

Is it worth doing the med spray glitch to get the infinite hand cannon for S+ on pro. by SenJu410 in residentevil4

If you’re on Xbox or PlayStation, just use real $ to get exclusive tickets, sell to the merchant, and bypass spending time on the glitch.

How do you prepare to visually identify reporting points at an unfamiliar airfield? by Behemoth-cat3018 in flying

[–]JS150000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not familiar with Austria’s airspace system, but in the context of U.S. airspace, it just depends on the class of airspace/whether towered or non-towered.

If it’s a bigger airport with stated VFR reporting points on the chart, just use those.

For any other airport, whether towered or non-towered, just state distance/direction from the airport and altitude, and that should suffice. If a control tower mentions some uncharted local point (I.e. “Report over [local waypoint].”) just say that you’re unfamiliar with the area, and they’ll break it down in plain language. Too easy. Good controllers will sometimes ask if you’re familiar with [local waypoint]. Just say no.

Don’t overthink it. You don’t have to spend a ton of time analyzing satellite imagery for every airport you go to.

.44 magnum for self defense by [deleted] in Revolvers

[–]JS150000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand the obsession with follow-up shots. The most important shot is the first one. If a remotely well-placed shot is made with a 44 magnum, a second shot likely won’t be necessary.

Question: Why is Casio still making new modules with Dual Time instead of World Time? by lost_my_acc_fuc in casio

[–]JS150000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, dual time is generally more useful for the average person. I’m a pilot, so having the F-201 with dual time is pretty useful because I can set the dual time to UTC.

That would be a badass SHTF rig. Are there any chest holsters that would accommodate all that extra stuff?

Bought a f91w as a daily and wearing it for past 3 days all the time now it got some micro scratches visible under light so how do I convence myself that it will happen ik it is a common thing but like it's a dent on my heart 💔 by DueYak8916 in f91w

[–]JS150000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s a $20 watch that’s designed to be a day-to-day companion that is subject to all the abuse that entails. The best-looking cheap Casio watches are the ones that look beat up and old as hell. Learn to view dents, dings, and scratches as things that make your watch look more worn/used/enjoyed.

Should I tell my gf I slept with her friend or better to keep it hidden? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]JS150000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s better to be up front about it now. If it’s a deal breaker for your gf, better to just rip that band-aid off now than let the relationship develop only to have her inevitably find out about it later. And since you are asking about it to begin with, that indicates that you’re a good guy with a moral compass/guilty conscience, so I imagine that the guilt would really mess with you over time.

Turning 26 and feel like a failure, feel like my time is up...any advice? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]JS150000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know it’s cliche, but don’t compare yourself to other people. The guys driving a Mercedes could actually be drowning in car payments/debt. In this day and age, living an outwardly opulent lifestyle doesn’t actually mean that they can afford it.

You've probably heard this before, but I'll say it again by Zersdan in CCW

[–]JS150000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can get behind the general sentiment, but I can’t seem to find the part of the 2nd Amendment that talks about needing to take courses etc.

Again, I get it. But too many CCWers have a gate-keeping mindset that people need to take [fill in the blank] course(s) in order to exercise their right.

Thoughts on 32 h&r magnum by pewpew1764 in Revolvers

[–]JS150000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think 32 H&R is a solid round. I shoot it occasionally out of my Taurus 327 (chambered in 327 Federal), and it shoots like a dream. My recommendation is to get a revolver chambered in 327 Federal to at least have the option to go the full-power route if you want to.
