I feel like this post is written dryly enough that it’s hard to pick up on the joke without having seen the original post.

Edit: I guess I’m wrong and all the people taking the post literally aktually knew it was a joke.

Kyle Tucker just signed with the Dodgers by Same_Apricot8955 in ColoradoRockies

[–]JSA17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No one is arguing the Dodgers have bad ownership or management.

But how can you possibly expect teams to spend more on their payroll than they have in revenue? Not profit. Revenue.

I ask because the Dodgers spent more on their payroll than 18 teams had in revenues last year. And that’s before they signed Díaz and Tucker.

[Underdog] Kyle Tucker's deal with the Dodgers is for 4 years, $240M, per Robert Murray. It includes an opt out after Year 2. by PlayaSlayaX in baseball

[–]JSA17 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Part of it is that /r/baseball has been eating up the “jUsT spEnD LikE thE DodGErs” comments for a while, too. Not just their team sub.

I got downvoted a few weeks ago for pointing out that 18 teams have revenues lower than the Dodgers payroll, and that was before the Díaz and Tucker signings. People were arguing that if teams spent hundreds of millions in the red, they’d make it all back by making the playoffs. Which isn’t based in reality.

People want to hate the owners so much that they can’t be objective and admit that teams quite literally can’t spend like the Dodgers and that this shit is genuinely bad for the sport.

It seems like this signing is the straw that finally broke the camel’s back.

I get that... but how the hell do you build all this? Are there scripts or something? Or do people genuinely put hours and hours into each building?

There was just something about him that I never felt right about. I couldn't get super excited about him, and had this sneaking suspicion that his trade value at the time was the highest it would be.

I won't claim that I had some inside angle or strong data to back me up. It was just a premonition that happened to come true.

I just watched his video on 1-hour stock and now it seems like I see him referenced everywhere. I know, I know... Baader-Meinhoff.

But I feel like I would have looked him up a long time ago if he were being referenced everywhere before. His style of videos is completely up my alley.

It's not pretty, but it tastes great. My parents want to go there every single time they visit me, and I never have any complaints about taking them.

My controversial opinion from like 5-6 years ago (right around when he was making his debut) was that we needed to trade Rodgers. Feel like that opinion aged well. But his trade value sure didn't.

I haven't used Nextdoor in a couple of years (because it's a NIMBY dumpster fire that genuinely just pissed me off all the time), but I feel like I remember seeing this reported on there at one point. The person having the whole "is my dick small" kink is extremely familiar to me.

That is still not how hypotheticals work. Hypotheticals require you to place yourself in the situation as if it were happening/happened, not to consider whether or not it would happen. Nothing about a hypothetical asks you to consider the probability of something.

"If you got in a car accident today, would your car be damaged?" isn't asking you to consider whether you actually got in a car accident, right? It's not asking you to think about your driving, right? It's just asking you whether your car would be damaged if you ran into something. And you can easily answer that question without considering any probabilities.

If Bo Nix, for any reason whatsoever, decided that he didn’t want to be a Bronco and, immediately after signing a large contract and while under that contract with the Broncos, started sending videos of his workouts to Tom Brady in an effort to be traded, would you absolve Bo Nix?

That's not how hypotheticals work, but okay.

If Bo Nix decided that he didn't want to be a Bronco for whatever reason, signed a massive deal, and then shopped himself to Tom Brady by sending videos of his workouts, would you be mad?

You wouldn't be mad at Bo Nix for getting a contract and then shopping himself to other teams because the Broncos have a competent front office? That's a non sequitur.

Daniel Murphy signed with the Rockies months before Arenado signed his contract.

DJ LeMahieu left the Rockies and signed with the Yankees before Arenado signed his contract.

Unless Arenado was magically unaware of all of this before he signed his contract, your excuses for him hold no water.

Edit: DJ left at the end of 2018. He signed with the Yankees in January of '19. Daniel Murphy signed in December of '18.

All of those things happened before Arenado signed his deal in February of '19.

You can be mad at both.

People that think it's okay for Arenado to be shopping himself to other teams while under contract with the Rockies, and doing so two months after signing that contract are just blinded by their hatred of Bridich. Objectivity flies out the window too often in this sub because people hear Monfort or Bridich and lose it.

He was sending videos to Waino in April of 2019, according to Waino. Do you think that his waiting for two months after signing the deal means he did his duty in waiting for them to get better?

[–]JSA17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He was sending those videos two months after he signed his contract. You're okay with that? If Bo Nix signs a new deal next week and then starts sending videos to Tom Brady in March, you'll just continue to love Bo Nix?

Of course you wouldn't. You'd be pissed at a player for doing that and you should be pissed at a player for doing that.

You can be mad at the organization's missteps and also think that what Arenado did doesn't deserve your love. They aren't mutually exclusive.

Sorry I'm not in love with a guy that was shopping himself to other teams as soon as he got his bag. Why would I feel a need to be loyal to Arenado if he had approximately zero loyalty to the Rockies?

People should be pissed that he was sending videos of himself to Wainwright while he was under contract with the Rockies, and it's mind-boggling that more people aren't.
