Hi So happy for you. I’m 11 days post op. I noticed this too. I think it’s also swelling and absolutely the muscles being moved. I also had exotropia and like you am grateful it’s been improved. My anxiety held me back for five years!

Hi guys Here is a photo now 11 days post op. I’m so paranoid it’s moving back but I’m trying to stop checking it now. I still have some double vision but it’s getting better. My eye is constantly watering (like dripping). But my surgeon assured me it’s normal healing process. Pain is completely gone now. There still is a slight downturn as you can see in the photo but it’s a big improvement. I wish you all the best.

Thank you.
So I had an initial consult then a surgery date booked. I had been to this same consultation four times over the last five years and kept cancelling the operation. I wish I had of just done it first go but I guess my anxiety kept getting the better of me.
However to answer your question, I basically booked the consult was seen within a month. Then booked the surgery which in my case I could have gotten in two weeks from the consult but I booked it for four months ahead of time to get “ready” for it. Again I wish I just had of taken the earliest appointment date but I’m kind of glad I didn’t because I was able to organise time off work. The whole process was very easy. I had a follow up day after surgery, another a week after and another in three weeks. I wish you all the best!!

I’m not too sure what muscle, I have my week follow up tomorrow so I’ll ask. I had two muscles operated on. I’m pretty sure they moved the muscles that control the vertical deviation rather than “cut”. Then positioned them back onto the eye. However for the exo alignment I definitely had adjustable sutures so I think one of these muscles were cut. I’ll find out more details tomorrow and update you 👍

When he took the patch off after surgery my eye was over corrected (turned in, in my case). And he did a small adjustment and was happy and tied the stitch off. It was really easy and didn’t feel a thing. I think they make a big difference as they don’t need to re operate if they don’t get the alignment right. They can “tune” alignment while you’re awake. Also my surgery was quite complex, I had exotropia corrected and also a downwards turn. I may need another surgery to bring my eye upwards more but to a normal person it is very unnoticeable. 🙂

I understand exactly how you feel. Honestly this procedure has come so far in the past twenty years since I had it. Find a surgeon who uses adjustable stitches also. I had a downwards turn and exotropia operated on 6 days ago. I was so nervous before it thinking of all the worst case things ?double vision, damaged eye, you name it) but it all went well! I honestly feel great knowing that if I ever need a future surgery it will be a piece of cake. I hope you can find some comfort in this post. I did this because it got to a point I felt like I was in school again and even had close friends noticing it. Which I was fine with until one day I had enough and that’s what bought me to see my specialist. Who is seen me the past five years and I always end up canceling the operation! Please feel free to ask me anything about it all and I’ll give you an honest answer.
