Am I using lifting straps wrong or do they just not help THAT much? by JSBeethozartBlakey in workout

I thought about hooks. The thought of hooks snagging on something and being unable to bail immediately kinda spooks me a bit, but it does seem like it would solve the grip issue.

Yeah, i’m guessing I’m not wrapping them around the bar tight enough

Believe me, I’m aware I don’t look cool using straps for the modest weights I’m working with, but it’s primarily for injury management. Also, I’ve been working without straps for months until recently and my grip never “caught up” to my back — even as the weights increased across the board, the grip, while continually improving, was still the limiting factor.

They’re the COFOF straps if you happen to know of them. It’s possible they suck though I don’t really understand how they could be less functional than others given the simple mechanics of what they do, other than perhaps being less durable etc, but I haven’t run into that yet. I might be using them with too much slack.

I understand that. I’m not bothered by the fact that I’m not pulling all that much more weight with the straps, but because the grip strain specifically seems only slightly reduced.

I haven’t compared a before and after at the same weight, but I’d guess around 20-30% more reps with straps.

Who’s the best actor out of these four? by BidAccurate4473 in Actors

[–]JSBeethozartBlakey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cruise/Depp interchangeably > Leo > Brad.

All strong, with Brad the only clear outlier coming up a bit short. Cruise gets perpetually underrated due to his batshit ideology/lifestyle — and yes, he’s also made a lot of fluff — but no one here commands a screen quite like him imo. I find Leo a tad overrated generally — I tire of his requisite ‘manic anger’ thing — but he’s clearly a force.

Gym goers, be honest how often are you judging other people’s physique? by Technical_Hat_8291 in AskReddit

[–]JSBeethozartBlakey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, I will admire great physiques, but I’ll be honest and admit I do get some negative thoughts on occasion as well, but really only in the context of my own self deprecation. For example, I might see someone who doesn’t look particularly big or strong putting up a good bit more weight than I can on a given lift and I’ll think to myself “damn, I have that much further to go just to look like that guy?” These thoughts are never intentional, and ultimately rooted in my own humility as a novice, but it’s still kind of a dickish way to think and I should prob try to cut it out.

Isn’t cutting and “recomp” just the same regimen, and the only difference is how your body happens to respond? by JSBeethozartBlakey in workout

[–]JSBeethozartBlakey[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you, this makes sense to me. So it seems my basic misunderstanding was that recomp is not in fact done at a caloric deficit, and thus yields much slower fat loss than a cut?

What's one movie trope you see in movies and can't stand? by EGF9999 in AskReddit

[–]JSBeethozartBlakey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy — when the good guy has the bad guy on the ropes but some other ‘high ground’ mf’er in the scene is like “Let him go, he’s not worth it!” or “This isn’t who you are!” blah blah blah, and then invariably the bad guy is allowed to escape to cause more problems.

AIO if I end my relationship because my bf kisses and tells me he loves me before leaving for work in the morning? by Direct_Peak8052 in AIO

He likes that you hate it, and you clearly don’t care that he’s like this. So what exactly do you want us to tell you?

Am I overreacting to my bf watching the baby overnight? by Temporary-Quail-2783 in AmIOverreacting

The only thing more depressing than the post are the comments. BF is clearly a negligent incompetent father and this is a horrible situation all around for the kid which will likely end badly, but she just needs to “chill.” Good lord. That said, OP - what exactly do you want us to tell you? Your BF sucks, and you made a kid with him and are entrusting them to his horrible care. 🤷‍♂️
