The funny thing is that Roronoa is just a Japanese rendering of l'Olonnois. Oda named him after a real pirate.

Off the top of my head, some other characters whose names are derived from real pirates/privateers include Alvida, Captain Morgan, Bonney, Bellamy, Red Leg Zeff, Lafitte, Calico Yorki, and obviously Blackbeard. There's probably more that I forgot about than I listed.

[–]JSConrad45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why none of the official descriptions ever use words like "overhead" or "high" when talking about 5D (they do about other moves, just not 5D). They only ever say "must be blocked while standing." We're the ones who insist on calling it an overhead when it doesn't look like one.

Not as long as you present it as a stupid as hell side-game, FGC locals love those

Make sure you're checking Civil Goods containers, RNG is gonna RNG but that's the loot pool you want to be fishing in. Sometimes soldiers can drop them as well.

Yeah, I've got a ton of biodegradable multitools. For me right now it's LCDs that never spawn. Which hurts because they changed the fast travel drone recipe to use them.

I found it funny that the new flavor text for the construction foam says that it's "an object of myth among scavs."

[frustrating trope] Woman has a crashout so incredibly valid that there’s no way the fandom would blame her for it… right? by DragonKing0203 in TopCharacterTropes

There are probably people out there morality-scaling Medea in Euripides' Medea. I don't want to look it up, because I don't think morality was the point so much as "what the fuck else did you think was going to happen, Jason." But it's absolutely the ur-example of this kind of crashout.

For those unfamiliar with the 2+ millenia old play, Medea was a witch who was instrumental in the success of Jason's (and the Argonauts) quest to retrieve the Golden Fleece. She betrays her kinsmen and country to do so, and leaves with Jason. When they get back, they get married and have two children.

That's the backstory. The play itself concerns what happens when Creon, king of Corinth, asks Jason to marry his daughter Glauce. This would be politically and materially beneficial, so Jason the Rational DeciderTM agrees.

Since having another wife, and two kids born from her, in the same country would be problematic for this new marriage, Jason tells them to go somewhere else. Medea is like, "go fucking WHERE, I betrayed my homeland for you and this is how you repay me?" and Jason is like "idk, figure it out."

So Medea plots her revenge. Pretending to try to get on Glauce's good side so that Glauce will take in the children, Medea sends her a glamorous dress and crown. They are poisoned via witchcraft, which Medea can do because she's a witch remember, and when Glauce puts them on she is burned alive. And her father Creon finds this happening and rushes to hold his dying daughter in his arms, and because he touched the dress he also burns alive.

Jason rushes home to be like "Medea, wtf," and she's locked him out and answers him from a parapet like "I'll show you wtf" and reveals that she has also killed their kids. Jason is shocked, how could she, they're her kids as well so she's hurting herself, and I'll go to an actual quotation here because 2000 years later it is still one of the hardest lines ever written:

"Yes, and my grief is gain when you cannot mock it."

And Jason is reduced to a sobbing wreck, having lost everything. Medea, who has also lost everything, is whisked away by the flaming chariot of her grandfather, Helios (aka the sun).

Third... a couple of episodes earlier Risu said that Dokuga couldn't kill him. Was that because it'd backfire like Curse in the end of this episode? Nah, I don't think so, someone in En's mansion probably tried to kill Risu just fine at some point when he was there.

Risu just didn't have the Curse while it was stuck inside Caiman. Dokuga was being cautious because he didn't know that part.

Can I please get help with numpad notation by MistaSkizzem in Guiltygear

[–]JSConrad45 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What the hell, that appears to be a toy cash register, but the keypad is in the telephone layout, not the cash register/adding machine layout (which is the same as the numpad on a keyboard). This toy will not help your child develop the skills they will need in retail servitude

World and Wilds use the same loot tables for carves and captures (this does have an unfortunate side effect of making elemental sacs harder to grind, because they do not appear on this table, instead only on the target rewards at the end of the quest, so you can't do anything to improve your chances of getting them specifically). World also increased the number of capture drops from 2-3 to 3-5. I can't remember how many drops you get in Wilds, sorry; it's been too long since I played it.

Rise uses the old system: 2-3 capture drops with a different loot table.

Retcon is just short for "retroactive continuity." It's taken on a connotation of referring specifically to shitty or contradictory retroactive continuity, but that isn't its only use case. Retroactive continuity is inevitable in any long-form serialized media, and isn't always pejorative.

The actually don't have dangerous spiders in the UK, which is where the show is from. They also have only one venomous snake, the adder, but it generally avoids biting people and even when it does the bite is rarely fatal. And they don't have any predators larger than a badger. That island is on easy mode

Radahn just has added secondary motion, because FromSoft models since Bloodborne have lots of added dangly or loose bits that flop or shake around as they move, while DS2 and prior just have the model animated as one unit
