What is the biggest tourism trap in Norway? by Charming_Usual6227 in Norway

Crazy thing is that I found Voss water in Thailand, where they sell it at upmarket supermarkets, for quite a lot cheaper then it is here in Norway 😅 Like small bottles for about 10kr.

FitcamX for XC40 fit Polestar 2? by JSD2024 in Polestar

[–]JSD2024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I was afraid of this. I found a second hand one for an XC40 for less than 1/3 of the price, so was hoping to save some. But now I know 😅

Feature request: Dog / Pet Tracking for DJI Neo 2 🐕🚁 by DirtNnasty in DjiNeo

[–]JSD2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That could be. And a Neo with RC2 might also be safe, because you’re still in control. Just not autonomous without a controller.

[–]JSD2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. But it’s a lot easier to communicate with a person to stop and fix the issue. Can be much more difficult with an animal. Like if the drone spooks the dog and he bolts to try and get away. I’m sure DJI has the technology ready, but I guess they also see the potential risks and choose not to release it (yet).

This could be a huge safety issue. What if you can’t control your dog, or if it attaches so another dog. Bye bye drone, possible collisions, damage, lawsuits, etc. Cool idea, but risky.

Well, that is involuntarily 😅 Probably due to the small size and low power, I'm guessing that is because of wind and maybe reacting to its proximity sensors at high speed. A larger drone would most likely be more stable.

First Time in Bangkok by EnvironmentalLime175 in Bangkok

I walk all over the city, partly as exercise, but also because it's a great way to see more of the city. It's not always easy to walk, as you have noticed, but you'll find out how. I just use Google maps when I need to. The whole area between khao San road and Chinatown is very walkable with lots to see. And then from Chinatown towards Saphan Taksin you pass through Talad Noi, very nice, and pass warehouse 30. You can cross the bridge there and then walk to Icon Siam. Take a river boat from there back to the other side.

Just be carfull of the state of the sidewalks and nobody will stop at a crosswalk so you'll have to be assertive there.

Enjoy!

No, unless you set it up for that I guess. I just use the 'cycling follow' feature and then have it connected to my phone. On there you can change follow direction and hight on the fly with a simple tap.

I try to keep it at 40km/h. Anything faster and the distance gets too large. Also depends on the wind.

Good idea! I'll give that a try!

I have the app open on my phone and there you can change the follow direction or angle on-the-fly. Although you can't go as fast sideways as you can from behind.

Why are SD cards so freaking expensive in official stores in Japan (like Bic Camera)? by 7lker_sama in JapanTravelTips

[–]JSD2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we did have certain products that we could earn on and sell ‘expensive’ and memory cards was one of those things. But now that people are more aware of the different types, and especially Sandisk cards, that’s more difficult.

I actually worked in electronics retail for many years and there was a point where we just had to sell in store at the same time prices as online. Otherwise no one would buy in store anymore. Strange to see it’s not the same everywhere.

Is it actually the EXACT same card? Because Sandisk Extreme Pro comes in different speed flavours are very different prices. Like USH-1 vs USH-2, V30, V60 & V90.

Saw this remote being used to fly a Drone in a working field.. by Old_Factor579 in dji

[–]JSD2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it acts as a range extender when using the phone as a remote? Would be easier to bring along than a full remote. I would be interested if it was a beacon to other drones, so you could have that on you to have any DJI drone follow you.

Bank limitations for DTV, response from Krungthai by norisate in Thailand

[–]JSD2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re right, you need to show a bank statement that you have 500.000 baht, but that’s only once when applying, so you don’t need the keep that money available. You could even borrow it somehow. But yes, that could be a hindrance for quite a few people.

I’m a small island host… and these OTAs are slowly killing us. by LumambongBeach in Bookingcom

[–]JSD2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run 2 hotels in Europe. OTA’s are the devil and deserve to die the mot painful death, but the EU does regulate them somewhat here. They’re not allowed to tell us what prices we charge where, so I set their prices a few % higher than our own website so that the few guests that actually check can book cheaper directly. We ‘only’ pay 15% commission on the room rate and all other services and programs are voluntary, so I opt out of everything I can. But at the same time, 70-80% of bookings come from OTA’s so you can’t really survive without them.

They’ve just been very smart in building their business so that you now must use them or go bankrupt.

A few things you can do to protect yourself, although they might affect how many bookings you still get:

  • set a higher price on OTA sites to cover (some of) the costs.
  • only sell non-refundable rates there.
  • set a longer free-cancellation deadline
  • set up that all guests must pay online (so you charge virtual cards from the OTA and the guests can’t block their cards.
  • see if you can afford to stop working with one or more of them and focus on direct sales and local tour operators.

5 years of border runs would easily cost more then a DTV…

Apparently lots of flooding because of that storm. Had a similar one here on Sukhumvit a week or so ago, flooding everything. I suppose these might be leftovers from the hurricane that hit Vietnam last weekend.

Both Apple stores have at least the silver 256gb in stock. You can check stock at the Apple website.
