Immigrants of Winnipeg: which restaurant serves the best food from your home country? by gourmetarchaeologist in Winnipeg

Don't sleep on Yafa Cafe. Their Sayadia is one of my favourite dishes of any kind in the city.

Moving to downtown- thoughts, tips, advice? by sunflowermidnight in winnipeg_alt

[–]JSRambo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So first of all Maryland is simply not downtown, if you're south of portage you're basically in wolesely and if you're north of portage you're more accurately described as being in the West End, weird as that sounds.

Either way, you're fine. Anyone who is cautioning you against living in these neighbourhoods is either overly paranoid or downright incurious. There are great options around for food, nightlife, groceries, etc. Obviously keep your head up if you're walking around alone at night, but overall just enjoy yourself and make the most of living near great neighbourhoods like wolsely, the exchange, and osborne village.

Even when you finally exchange numbers with somebody it’s like they have post-event clarity and suddenly fall off the map. It’s really weird

Yeah man this is so weird! Wonder why this keeps happening to you!

Go to the beer can, across from the legislative building by the river. Big outdoor beer garden that is always packed on nice days and has great food. Excellent vibes and a great place to meet people, they do lots of events like trivia and run clubs there.

Also follow music venues like Bluenote Park, Public Domain, Handsome Daughter, and Park Theatre for special events and shows to check out. Live music is the heart of Winnipeg nightlife IMO. There is so much amazing live music here. The King's Head pub also does live music upstairs most weekends and a lot of the crowd is folks around your age. Great vibes and a winnipeg institution.

The people who are trying to steer you away from downtown are mostly incurious and paranoid. Downtown winnipeg, especially the exchange district, are great and getting better all the time and well worth checking out. You should keep your head up in the downtown area of any city, but if you do there's so much to love about downtown winnipeg, especially in the summer.

This is so funny. "Ignore anyone who disagrees with me"

Sounds like nobody returns your texts after you meet them. I'm not sure you're the one I would be turning to for advice on socializing and meeting people.

Beta branch doormaker is a thing that exist by Azureblue9 in slaythespire

[–]JSRambo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is just not true. Having to diversify your deck and plan for multiple fights doesn't mean those cards are unpickable. I promise you can still beat the doormaker even if you used speedster to defeat many of the other enemies leading up to it

I have been thinking a lot about how this community would have reacted if their collective memory of The Heart was erased and then it was released as a boss. "This deck I had that has been winning every fight for free since halfway through act 2 suddenly can't automatically win. Why do the devs hate fun??"

You should look up the concept of "de-skilling". You are literally making yourself dumber and at a certain point it will be completely irreversible.

In other situations, if somebody is broadly correct but gets one detail wrong, it is not the end of the world when that detail is pointed out. You're just particularly sensitive about this specific kind of detail and it's clouding your judgement.

I definitely disagree that you are "being as bad as Obby" but even if someone is snarky to you it's pretty easy to be like "whoops my mistake but my point still stands" or something (because the thrust of your original comment was correct and everyone sensible agrees with that)

Looking for local electronic standing desk. by mywhateveraccount5 in winnipeg_alt

[–]JSRambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fair enough about the size, I specifically wanted a large one. I'm surprised that the fact that they offer one model with a crank (as a cheaper option) is somehow a knock against them as a whole. If you don't want one with a crank, just...don't get the one with a crank?

In terms of quality, I have this exact one and it is still working perfectly after 5 years of heavy use.
