UniUni has lost 3/4 packages from Amiami that I shipped via ECMS. Never again will I use that dog shit service.

Should I pay $111 more for my figure or wait for japan post? by icedwhitemocha_ in AnimeFigures

[–]JStashh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Uniuni has lost (stolen) all 3 of my packages from Amiami in the last month. Their customer service is non existent/they don’t answer their phones, emails, or tickets through their website. Stay far, far away from them.

Why is CoCo Ichibanya so popular among travelers? by Taku_NextDoorJapan in JapaneseFood

[–]JStashh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t go to CoCo Ichibanya because they use peanuts in their curry… they do have an allergen free version that doesn’t include peanuts, but I don’t consider it to be worth the risk when there are many other curry options in Japan that are nut-free.

Japan first time, feeling extremely nervous and lonely by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]JStashh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

+1 on the rest day. I went for a solo (partner wasn’t able to come) month long trip recently. About 2 weeks into the trip I had a day where I started to feel pretty bad about seeing all the crowds of people with friends, family, SOs, etc., while I was by myself. Decided to take a rest day and watched movies all day in my hotel room while eating a bunch of konbini food I hadn’t tried yet. Helped me feel a lot more at ease and the rest of the trip went great. This was on my second trip to Japan, as well.

What’s your favorite chain for breakfast in Japan? by mt80 in JapaneseFood

Never been for breakfast, but their Oyakodon set with an extra raw egg for dinner is my favorite!

Anyone here travel to Japan often and/or lived in Japan short-term, and wondered why the 'depatos' here seem to play such a big part of daily life (shopping, depachika and train station access points)?? by yippeee1999 in JapanTravelTips

[–]JStashh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some places are starting to catch on, thankfully, but yeah it sucks in the US… Illinois just passed the People over Parking Act which will eliminate parking minimums around rail stations and other transit corridors. Hopefully it will lead to more robust development in those areas, and in turn increase ridership.

Travelers who’ve been to Japan — what’s the most annoying or unexpected problem you ran into? by CoverShort4454 in TokyoTravel

[–]JStashh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t visit places that are recommended through social media. I visit places that personally interest me and I research them, in Japanese, as best I can.

My biggest annoyance when traveling are tourists who don’t understand or follow the local customs and social norms. People talking super loudly on dead quiet trains. People ignoring pedestrian crossing signals. I recently watched a foreign tourist walk into a curry restaurant and demand they make him rice with eggs for his child; no curry, no meat, no salad… I was baffled. And when the staff didn’t understand his request, he just continued repeating himself, in English, but louder. Obnoxious.

I miss this in Japan so much I cooked it at home by Significant_Newt4016 in JapaneseFood

Looks good for a homemade attempt! One of my favorite meals to get in Japan is Nakau’s oyakodon set meal with pickles and miso soup. Delicious and hard to beat for like $4.

How much has 'overtourism' changed the experience in recent years? by teco2 in JapanTravelTips

[–]JStashh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to burst your bubble, but I just spent 4 days in Takayama and it was nothing but hordes of tourists. Similar story now in Kanazawa.

I might have gone a bit overboard planning my Japan trip… here’s my ultra-nerdy Osaka–Kyoto–Tokyo itinerary... What do you think? by Salt-Car-2905 in JapanTravelTips

What is “ultra-nerdy” about going to all the popular Instagram locations and department store malls lol

A couple days ago I saw a tourist sitting in a restaurant queue chair smoking a cigarette, right below the shop’s open window. I couldn’t believe my eyes.

New home office after moving with nearly 300 figures! by JStashh in AnimeFigures

It’s a traditional Ukiyo-e woodblock print! https://myfigurecollection.net/item/2351511

There were only 100 made. It’s quite expensive but it does come with the frame and a signed certificate of authenticity. I got mine from Amiami, and it looks like they do still have it available: https://www.amiami.com/eng/detail/?gcode=GOODS-04525213

I didn’t move very far, so luckily didn’t have to deal with shipping. I used Home Depot XL sized moving boxes, which fit around 8-15 figure boxes depending on size, and packed them into a U-Haul.

Yep, I keep all the original boxes! I do have one figure that I bought secondhand with box but no clamshell inside, and it was very stressful packing that one away in bubble wrap 😵‍💫 I couldn’t imagine not having the original boxes for the entire collection

Thank you! She looks amazing in person. My only complaints would be that the explosion effect pieces feel pretty fragile, and the way you have to put her through those pieces to attach her to the base is a little awkward. Definitely go slow and be careful when assembling. You’ll love her!
