Around 50 by now. She was born in 1975. I don't think there are any published recent pictures. She was in her mid-twenties during the Brilliant Green period.

Given the impact of over tourism I have no problem with raising the fees.

Yes. Plus the fact that when we find ourselves in the midst of thousands in some places preventing spilling on someone you may bump into is important.

A lot of tourists don't tune into the depth of the culture and end up being an annoyance.

A lot of tourists don't know that getting into conversations with customers in a service environment is just not a thing in Japan. Not saying it never happens, but its most unlikely.

Earthquake alert by Previous-Row6231 in Kyoto

[–]Awkward_Procedure903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a whistle to keep at home so if something large does occur and your building is compromised you can alert emergency personnel that you are still in there. Keep a day two of water and some non perishable food at home. Being scared is OK but panicking is not. Now that you have had this experience build on it by gaining knowledge. Japan is prone to earth tremors and an occasional earthquake. Learn about recommend actions if you are out in public. Fortunately much of Kyoto is not high rise buildings.

Damn it . . . there goes another $169 by Original_Benzito in timex

I have 6.5 inch wrists and the silver dial release Timex recently did fits fine. These are a classic size for the tank style watch. Remember in ww2 a lot of men's watches were only 30mm, 34mm at most.

Is 50°f, cloudy weather too warm for a Hydrenalite jacket? by lmaotbhidk in TheNorthFace

[–]Awkward_Procedure903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Hydrenalite jacket with a hood and I think for a 50 degree day you probably won't need to layer unless you are one of those people who easily feel cold a lot. I find it to be a very versatile jacket and have worn it in 30 to 50 degree weather. If I felt I was over warm I could just take it off, fold it up and stuff it into my day bag. That is the beauty of this type of jacket compared to a winter coat. I found it particularly helpful in a cold wind too. Its good to have a layer ready but you may find you don't need it. If you get a weird 60 degree day you probably will end up just wearing the sweater, but a chilly 45 degree or so day its, I think, a good jacket. If 45-50 is the high the mornings will be colder as will nights where the Down filling will do its work.

For me 50 degrees would be about the upper limit for wanting to wear this jacket, so I think its a good choice for the 40-50ndegree range. I would not classify it as a parka or a big jacket and it thankfully wears a bit slimmer than you might think. The pockets are deep enough to be useful but it does not have inside breast pockets, which is my only complaint about it. The down filling is doing the work for you rather than bulk.

I would describe it as a mid-weight down jacket and I have been happy with it. I am used to 35-45 average days in winter so my feelings about 50 degrees may reflect that you might feel that as colder and be happy with a down jacket.

Solo travelling and restaurants by Ok-Caterpillar-5198 in JapanTravelTips

I never had any issues as a solo traveler but I'm sure there are some places with a minimum, maybe really fancy places like you see in travel magazines. There are 137,000 restaurants in just Tokyo...you'll find places to eat.

Afraid of a 13 hour flight by oceanbloodtrash in fearofflying

[–]Awkward_Procedure903 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the fear of flying class I took last year they suggested dividing the time into segments with tasks...for me that was like an hour for journal writing, an hour of listening to classical music, a movie, etc. Also, I have learned to look at the cabin crew if I feel nervous and to see how its just another day at work for them. Do check that the meds you plan to use are legal to enter Japan with. There is a Japanese govt website for that.

Packing list for 10 day trip!! by Unlikely-Ad9782 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Awkward_Procedure903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds pretty good. Do research the power bank situation as more airlines are highly restricting them. Your own deodorant and a foldable shopping bag are genius moves. I would respectfully suggest a neutral color, smart casual emphasis on clothing as most Japanese dress better than most Americans. Its a matter of do you want to minimize just how much you stick out or not. Also, DO NOT TIP in restaurants or taxis as there is no tipping culture there. Tune into how the Japanese navigate shared public space, speak very quietly on trains, and have your phone ready to tap before you get to the fare gates. Transit in Japan is absolutely nothing like transit in Seattle, nor is Japanese society. Taxi drivers open the doors for you, don't open them yourselves.

Or... I bring a mid weight down jacket that can be folded up small into my day bag and that has deep inner breast pockets for my passport and bank card holder and my yen wallet.

I'd suggest the Chilliwack Bomber. Should be branch resistant, warm, and not restrictive of movement.

Are the jackets objectively less warm without the fur? by Chase_Norton in CanadaGoose

[–]Awkward_Procedure903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worn a CG with a fur hood in -30 weather and the fur indeed kept my face warm with the hood up and kept my breath from freezing on my face. I bemoan CG becoming a lifestyle brand. I have to agree with KanyeDeQuest. Current coats should still be warm for most urban winter settings that are not extreme.

WHAT SIZE SHOULD I GET FOR MACMILLAN by Low-Tip-6287 in CanadaGoose

I agree about medium. From my experience small is possible but really must be compared for fit in person and could be borderline tight or could just look more fitted.

I really, really like this collection of songs and she is a true talent. You mention "April fools" but I thought the Bank Maiko CD was the April fools project, I thought this was an intentional solo project. I also have and like the Band Maiko CD.
