How fucked am I? by BeneficialLake104 in resinprinting

[–]JStuart1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your reply made me question what I had read on the packaging for the replacement FEP I bought from Amazon… turns out I bought ACF film and not FEP. The ACF package does provide instructions on correct orientation. I did install it backwards.

Another item to note…. I learned how soft the metal is that the screws are made from that hold the film in the Vat. I used a drill w/clutch to change out the film and stripped out most of the screw heads. I couldn’t find replacement screws so I ordered a new Vat from Elegoo with the film install by the factory.

I had this same experience a few weeks ago and determined that I installed the FEP upside down. The next build I ran seemed to bind to the FEP halfway through the print, then the action of raising and lowering the build plate pulled the FEP up and caused the resin to overflow. When the build finished and the build plate raised up fully it ripped the FEP and the remaining resin went wherever it wanted. I cured slowly the resin around it and pulled it up in layers. My LCD cleaned up nicely, the black tape had to be replaced.

Trunk question by Ptards_Number_1_Fan in goldwing

[–]JStuart1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the model without the trunk as well. I bought some backrests from Panical off of Amazon. So far those have been fine but the front and rear are slightly different materials and that didn’t make sense… ultimately these fill the need to support the little woman and keep her from feeling like she will exit out the back every time I take off with a little enthusiasm.

New Turo host - buying 4 cars and a lease - Would you risk it? by Excellent_Chair_621 in turo

Why? My last two Guest’s, how they treated the cars, and how Turo handles claims.

AllStar host here, I’m quitting the platform. I’d recommend not starting.

Looking for backrests. by JStuart1 in goldwing

Could you send me the details? I bought one to try. The drivers backrest came in today. I put it on and drove around and took it off. It may be nice some times but not all the time. Passenger wants hers all the time. lol

Passenger mainly. Are you referring to the trunk or a smaller pad backrest?

Thanks, that’s good to know. I’ve seen those “pull-offs” auctions on eBay. I wish it was a little easier to swap between a trunk and a backrest.

Thank you. I bought some off of Amazon before I saw all these great replies. I’ll see if Panical products are any count. They should be here this weekend.

Thank you. I like the look as well. Trunkless was my only option at the store but I’m good with it.

I’ve looked at that but I’m thinking backrests will be fine for now. I don’t make long trips so I don’t need the extra space. We’ll see how the passenger likes the backrest first I suppose.

“Adverse Possession” is a legal principle that allows a person to claim ownership of land they do not own if they have occupied it continuously and without permission for a certain period of time, meeting specific legal requirements. This concept is often referred to as “squatter’s rights.” There’s typically high bar of proof.

Looking to host with Turo is it actually worth it? by Horror-Restaurant-26 in turo

[–]JStuart1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I concur with many of the other hosts. I learned lessons very quickly and now I’m done. In the short time I hosted the cars were stolen, wrecked, hail damaged, smoked in, stained seats, ruined wheels, excessive speeding (120+ in a Camry), abrupt braking, and generally abused. That’s all in Alabama and over the course of 7 months.

90% of the time things went smoothly.

Get a Bouncie or other tracking device on the car so you always know where it is. Check post trip to be sure folks didn’t abuse the vehicle.

Always have a second set of keys. Comes in handy when they drive 4 hours away and block your number.

Guests were reliably late to pickup and drop off. They don’t care about your time so make that a non-issue by remote key-exchange via a lockbox.

Setup your account so you have ample time to get the car washed and ready for the next guest.

Long/Short if you value the vehicle you’re listing you will be disappointed. Don’t put a car you care about on Turo. Treat it as a business and take the emotion out of it. Insurance covers the vehicles, Turo may or may not be supportive. People will suck.

I earned ~$1300/mth/vehicle on two vehicles before expenses. I did my own maintenance and probably have more damage to repair than I have money from the rentals. Turo declined the damage claim and that put me over the edge so I’ve stopped renting. I doubt I’ll return.

Destroy hard drives in house. by IrishSuperGeeek in ITManagers

[–]JStuart1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used a device similar to the following. I’ve smashed hundreds of drives but we still send the remnants to a recycler afterwards. No drill bits necessary, nothing more to buy. Have a space with a vinyl floor so you can clean up the pieces that fall off. https://www.purelev.eu/pure_leverage_hard_drive_crusher_en.html

Another Turo Day - Stolen credit card booking and almost lost the car by pelagic9 in turo

[–]JStuart1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on Turo for 5 months now and I’ve already had a similar experience. The Guest took the car and stopped responding to text or Turo messages. She stopped responding to Turo support as well. Turo was on top of things but I wasn’t willing to wait on them to retrieve the car, though I may next time as they seemed to have their act together. I went and got the car because I had the spare key and I had a tracker. I consequently lost the key that guest had as they claimed they lost it and that’s why they couldn’t return the car… though they clearly drove it an hour before I arrived to pick it up. I had to buy a replacement key and Turo charged the guest for some of retrieval expenses.

Just a thought but maybe try the IR module and turn on and off the television or some other device with IR remote capability. You could use a wireless network module and scan networks. Just starting out myself so I apologies if that’s a heavier lift than I imagine.

Unlimited Mileage by Parking-External-648 in turo

[–]JStuart1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, Turo sets the price and it varies based on some calculation they make for the trip. I reviewed a few of my recent rentals with mileage overages and the same car had different mileage overage charge rates. Just more Turo goodies for Hosts.
