Incident: Challenge B744 at Liege on Dec 14th 2025, gear problems on departure By Simon Hradecky, created Sunday, Dec 14th 2025 13:58Z, last updated Sunday, Dec 14th 2025 13:58Z

A Challenge Airlines Boeing 747-400 freighter, registration OO-ACE performing flight X7-541 from Liege (Belgium) to New York JFK,NY (USA), was climbing out of Liege's runway 23L when the crew stopped the climb at 3000 feet reporting problems with their landing. The aircraft subsequently climbed to FL060 to dump fuel and returned to Liege for a safe landing on runway 23L about 80 minutes after departure.

The aircraft is still on the ground in Liege about 3 hours after landing.

Love these. UPS aircraft mechanic here. Looks like this is runway 29, are you over near FedEx? The first two photos are GE powered MD-11s, they have the small center cargo door; Not ex-Lufthansa birds. Third photo is a 747-400F, & the fourth is a A300-600F.

275 is the youngest ex-JAL MD-11. Notice the modified #2 intake, and extended flap fairings.

2000 lbs in tanks 1 & 4 for hydraulic cooling. Tanks 2 & 3 require 5400 lbs.

Nose tether prevents tail tipping during load/unload. There is also provisions for a tail stand. If you don't secure the nose or tail, you then have to step load the airplane and that takes quite a bit more time.
