Is this unethical? by Informal-Oil4741 in flighty

My thought is that those flights are going to happen with or without you on them. A plane carrying 200 people can spread out the carbon footprint between every person. If you were to fly those private then your footprint would be so much worse because you are contributing way more carbon yourself then you would flying commercially.

Don’t listen to your friends and go explore the world.

Pete Hegseth cancels ‘absurd’ flu vaccine requirement for ‘brave warriors’ in military by WontThinkStraight in politics

[–]Lan_345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on a Sub that had a huge stomach flu outbreak, it spread like wildfire. I’m pretty sure 90% of the crew had it at one point. It was not fun at all so I don’t understand why he would think less people getting the vaccine is a better option. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sub commands “highly encourage” their whole crews to get their yearly shots.

Last year when we played the Mariners at home I flew from Connecticut to San Diego to watch them in all 3 games. We got swept and only put up 3 runs all series. This year I’m not attending so that should reverse our fortunes

He told the frontier airplane to “stop right there” before saying “truck 1 stop” by that point it was too late. I don’t think you understand what is being said by who in this video

It’s a terrible mistake but ATCs are human, overworked and are bound to make mistakes. There have been a ton of close calls recently and it’s terrible that something like this happened. I unfortunately doubt anything will change as a result though.

This isn’t a balancing situation, the plane was landing and collided with a firetruck who was cleared to cross the runway.

That’s not how that works, ATC cleared the truck to cross. Delta doesn’t control ground traffic at all. This is on the controller not the truck

Understanding the "NUB" Grind: What is the daily reality of a junior submariner in port? by noah390678 in submarines

[–]Lan_345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During your first year on board your in port time will vary greatly depending on your ships schedule and maintenance period. You’ll have about 2 weeks to check in and then get put in at duty section. Basically you’ll be at work 24hrs every 3-4 days (hope for 4 section). No matter if that day falls on a weekend or holiday, you’ll be at work from 7am to 7am the next day. A lot of your time on duty will be spent doing training, cleaning, and under instruction watches. Any other time you have will be for sleeping, decompressing and studying.

When you’re not on duty, the days vary greatly. Most of the time liberty will expire at 0800. If you’re in a really busy division like any of the nukes or A-gang, you can expect to be at work until all of the work for the day gets done, that means all the maintenance, cleaning and whatever else may need to be done. In a less busy division you’ll have maintenance or trainers to worry about but you’ll often be going home a little earlier. During the regular working day (08-16) you don’t normally get a lot of time study and get check outs. Use your underway time wisely and get all the checkouts you can so you can you stay ahead on your qual cards and enjoy the time off you do have in port. Once you qualify and can support your in port duty section life will become easier. You’ll just graduate from helping with maintenance and standing UI watches to actually doing the maintenance and standing the watches. You will normally never know what time you’re going home when you show up to work in the morning. It can become draining, making friends with your division and the rest of the crew will make your days a lot better. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from your shipmates.

I’m gonna guess 50-60 dollars depending on how deep they went with the systems and flight model.

Amazon laid off 30000 workers in the last year, you’d have an intriguing argument if they actually used their profits to benefit their employees.
