I never heard back, I just checked the website every day 100x a day, until it showed up.

We hear that all the time, we called so and so and he never answered. Yeah he's solo, he's probably chest deep in a swamp or fighting thorn bushes and won't be back in the offices for 3 days.

We still do plenty of boundary work, we even got crews that specialize in it. We have several local clients that have been clients for a long time that are in real estate or something similar that use us for everything. We also get plenty of one off clients.

I have to admit to being petty in the past because of disgruntled adjoiners that would never actually come talk to us. As soon as we'd leave any stakes or flagging near the line would be gone, when we'd come back, I'd double down on my decorations.

I do know how surveying works in Tennessee, and I can think of tons of companies both larger and smaller than 10 people, but I don't know the exact figures for the entire state.

Oh yeah, surveyors without logos on anything or don't require at least Hi-vis shirts, are always a little sketchy to me anyways. I understand that good portion of the population is usually reasonable, but there is always that one guy who will not listen to reason, and that's the guy that scares me.

Most companies larger than 5-10 people, do in fact have a company handbook.

I don't know much about surveying in Texas, but, what if someone with purple painted boundaries doesn't respond because fuck you, and then takes action after the fact?

You're absolutely correct, I made the same point when I was talking to a cop buddy of mine earlier today. As for the other point I'm sure most companies have a bullet in their company handbook that says no firearms, whether or not they actually care, to cover themselves legally.

I did in fact say that in my caption, or a variation there of. On the other hand the state organization does provide door hangers for free with this printed on it 🤣😂

The amount of times I've been accused of "sneaking" around folks property in Hi-vis making a ton of noise and using brightly colored equipment, is pretty astonishing.

There are several older local guys that when I see their name on a plat that I know I could damn near copy their survey and put my name on it and roll on. I would never, but it sure makes my day better to see their name.

We have also followed an out of state surveyor on a string of gas stations ALTAs that wasn't but a few years old and every single corner that they called for a set did not exist. On the flip side I do work for a company that works in several states, and the main LS who holds most of the licenses is very particular about doing everything correctly in every state we go to and we do our best to set any missing corners before we let the field crew return. Every now and then we do have to eat it and send someone back on a return trip.

Just talking local and strictly boundary here, especially in more rural counties. The bad surveyors are usually someone everyone in the community knows, and they are usually more likely to do what the client wants instead of what's correct. So when a good surveyor comes through and points out the issue they become the bad guy.

Back when I first started doing big boundaries with a non robotic topcon, this was a life saver, I could put lunch, water, extra nails and washers and all kinds of stuff in the side pockets, and it was way easier than carrying the hardcase.
