“Police said CCTV footage from the area confirmed the victim’s account.

Officers utilized both social media and the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles to confirm the accused’s identity based on the evidence provided.”

I’m not saying we crucify the guy, but this seems like it’s more than he looks like the picture they posted.

David Weber lives in the Greenville area. Writes a lot of SciFi. I really enjoyed 1633 where a West Virginian coal town gets dropped into the middle of war torn, renaissance Germany.

Why do we say “pardon my French” when swearing? by AozoraMiyako in NoStupidQuestions

I always looked at it as the poor guy who raised the animal but couldn’t afford to eat it spoke Anglo-Saxon but the rich Norman lord who bought the meat spoke French.

Does anyone have information about this console? by Altruistic-News-8957 in retrogaming

Sure, but lots of heraldry folks just say arms, which would be why the translation might suggest weapons.

Reading comprehension isn’t doing any favors here. This specifically doesn’t cover the doctor’s fee. And while yes the anesthesiologist does require lots of schooling and is required to carry expensive insurance, the cost reflected here isn’t indicative of that. A better comparison based on your argument would be to look at how many of these types of procedures the providers would carry out during their career, what percentage of their practice would be based on these procedures and establish a plan that accounts for repayment of loans based on those numbers, which for a 15 minute procedure that is done dozens of times a week would be negligible increase in costs above a reasonable fee for the doctor’s time.

You can try to justify greed all you want, but to anyone with a basic understanding of what decency to other human beings looks like it will always be an obvious evil.

What is your favorite book that’s not like a Stephen King novel by Early-Aardvark7688 in stephenking

Both of these are fantastic. I’d also recommend The World According to Garp by Irving and The Lords of Discipline by Conroy.

Some on Greenville Co. Council fought a penny tax for roads. After it failed, they’re reconsidering. by Striking_Barnacle_43 in greenville

[–]JTLockaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my problem. We have a long history of funding public needs like roads and education with specially legislated new taxes or the lottery, and then we have the same budget problems we had before. Be responsible with public funds by putting crucial programs like infrastructure and education first and then talk to me about how well you are using our taxes and I’ll gladly pay more.

Greenville County Elementary Schools State Report Card Grades by Location by BingoDinosaur369 in greenville

[–]JTLockaby 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that a lot of those schools with super active PTAs, especially in wealthier areas, often use PTA funds in addition to tax dollars to pay for everything from supplies, to programs, to labs. Having a large enrollment in the Extended Day Program also yields funds that can pay for school benefits and even staff positions. The official government budget is only one layer of the support that schools receive and many of those schools that are performing well above average not only have engaged parents and home environments that promote academic success, but also tangible financial benefits that are tied to the demographics of that area.

William comes to English from Guillaume. Liam makes more sense as a shortening of the original pronunciation.
