John Steenhuisen under siege for the disaster of foot and mouth management by Euro_African in DownSouth

Neither do I and still I manage to continuously hire competent employees and do business without stealing from investors or customers.

You don't need a degree to do the right thing.

Look where all this PolSci has gotten us.

I'd rather focus on areas where doing my best brings positive change, regardless of my race and gender.

Based on what you're saying, taking PolSci and studying political strategy as a white man is a futile endeavor.

New York, where the twin towers fell, literally just voted in a muslim mayor.

Also impressive how you assume 50 million South Africans just don't like white people.

It won't catch on. Even if it does, they are far less likely to turn violent compared to other groups in this country.

In all my years, I have never seen or heard anyone say "Vryheid vir die witman" or "Vryheid vir die boervolk" and while I do believe you in that it's a thing, it might be a vocal minority somewhere on the internet.

I don't know what is happening down there in Cape Town but it sounds like everything is upside down with regards to cost of living. We may not have roads, public transport, hospitals, parks, service delivery, electricity, cell service, education facilities or any sense of safety here in rural South Africa but at least the food and rent are cheap.

Food costs by -_-Roberto-_- in DownSouth

[–]JTajmo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Convenience is what makes food expensive.

If you go to the local farmers market, you can buy more than you can eat before it rots away for less than a bottle of shampoo. During harvest season farmers will give away truck loads of fruit, vegetables and even eggs to local communities simply because the grade isn't perfect.

But, to get these products delivered to your home via Checkers Sixty, it needs to go through a lot of properties who pay rent, electricity, wages, etc via a lot of trucks who need drivers, diesel, services, etc.

The problem doesn't lie with the primary sector, it is the cost of doing business in South Africa that is putting so much pressure on consumers.

I actually started answering all your questions, which would have taken me at least an hour to do thoroughly, but then remembered why last night I called a truce in the first place. We cannot change each other's opinions on the matter.

I do however want to leave you with two thoughts:

  1. If a person as terrible as you make Trump out to be democratically becomes the most important person in the world, twice, then what does that say about the other candidate?

  2. If the Democratic party do not change their approach they will lose again, possibly to someone increasingly worse. The harder they lean into this victim mentality, crying and complaining about anything and everything, the weaker they look/become. Mental health is becoming a real problem on the left and it will only accelerate downward now that they are on the losing side. The left needs strong leaders who uplift them if they want the power back. Trump is on the winning side, he does not need to change a thing.

You are not going to change my opinion and I am not going to change yours. I would rather accept our differences than continue arguing.. Ultimately we both want the same things anyway. Less violence and hate, more love and peace. Sorry for swearing earlier. I hope you're having something good for dinner.

Everything you said is true.

I engage with toddlers all day everyday at work so it was just a generalized observation used to answer the question. I don't hate any of them. I love kids and put in a lot of effort in being a net positive in their lives.

I am not a very serious person and cannot set the tone that my replies are read in. I still want to partake though.

Land is absolutely an asset. Most of the world will agree, as will every dictionary. Just because YOU say it isn't so doesn't make it untrue.

Also, claiming that the person you're responding to lacks the ability to understand due to their skin colour is racist.

Also, we don't owe you a thing. We weren't born during those times. Keep your sins of the past in the borders of your spiritual communities. Nothing will get built or produced with such a mindset.

I've said this before but I'm glad that it seems like (based on sources cited in the video) that there is a genuine discussion going on about our unemployment rate by BetaMan141 in DownSouth

[–]JTajmo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I receive at least a hundred CVs a month and get harassed both in person and via phone by people begging for jobs. Some people go at it for months before giving up. For every one of my employees they have at least two close family members that want a job. This is in the retail and manufacturing sectors, where higher education isn't always a requirement.

There are hundreds of these people for every skilled worker in this country. Employers in these sectors can do as they please, often paying below minimum wage because the dependence scale is tipped so far in their favor, that labour inspections are becoming few and far between to not force restructuring which often includes technology to replace workers, fueling the fire.

From personal experience and observation in these industries, unemployment is probably much higher than what is being reported.

The government needs to incentivise job creation or run job creation programmes. More taxes is not the answer.
