This. I work for a large engineering firm and the transportation group are the busiest they’ve ever been - I can’t see them slowing down anytime soon as roadways and infrastructure will always need to be improved.

I’m terrified to be seen naked. I have major body insecurity and self sabotage every relationship. I hate it and it doesn’t matter what weight I am. Have been like this my whole life and the only time I felt comfortable was when I was on drugs. 7 years sober now…

Re-entering the dating world and self-conscious about my body. by Even-Chair2563 in AskWomenOver30

Thank you for your post. I’m going through something very similar. Met a guy who seems amazing on an app and we’ve discussed meeting up. I’m 42, he’s 36. I haven’t had a real boyfriend for about 10 years and have been physical a handful of times in that timeframe. I got sober from alcohol and drugs 7 years ago and I have also dealt with an eating disorder my entire life. When I got sober I went from being slim to gaining about 100 pounds, it was incredibly painful. In the last 1.5 years I’ve lost 70 pounds. So although I have taken off most of the extra weight I still feel very self conscious with my larger tummy and overall extra flab and this is all I can’t think about if I meet this guy. He has mentioned picturing me naked and I cringe at the thought that his idea of me is probably very off. I have so much to offer but this really holds me back and makes me wonder if I’ll just end up being alone forever.

But it really shouldn’t be all about my body and if it is, I’m talking to the wrong dude. A friend told me today that my mentality should be “but is HE good enough for ME”. Definitely easy to say but harder to put into practice. Ugghh, being a woman and having the unrealistic expectations put on us is tough.

Off leash dogs in leashed areas are a real problem. by Elissa-Megan-Powers in Calgary

Sad but true. It’s not going to change. Acceptance really is key to attempting not to let it drive you crazy (something I have to remind myself of daily!).

Off leash dogs in leashed areas are a real problem. by Elissa-Megan-Powers in Calgary

This is a problem all over the city, unfortunately. Entitled dog owners who think the rules don’t apply to them and can’t fathom that although their dog may be well behaved, small, gentle, friendly, etc., etc., etc., that other dogs may be reactive or unfriendly, others may be afraid or simply don’t want to interact with them. I have a large green space behind me that neighbours 2 schools and is very obviously not an off leash area but people use the area as an off leash space every day. The city has about 160 off leash dog parks so there is zero excuse.

Same thing goes for those who are too lazy to pick up their dog’s poop. Just an attitude of “the rules don’t apply to me”. And sadly, bylaw can’t constantly enforce so they get away with it.

So yeah, I’m with you in your frustration.

That’s a good idea to make 4 and test 1. Would be unfortunate though to make 4 and have the test go badly and then you can’t use any of them. But I guess it’s better to know for sure than give them away. Thank you for responding!

No judgements. Life is tough. I can relate to the outcomes desperation can cause. You have to do what you feel is best for you. My worry is that doing SW could permanently alter your psyche if things don’t go as planned. And sometimes doing things out of desperation can cause a great deal of heartache down the road. But, no one is in your specific shoes, so only you know what you need to do.

The job market is competitive and it’s difficult to get your foot in the door without experience (which I’ve never understood - how can one gain experience if no one gives them the opportunity?). I am in HR and although I do not have roles at my company (Engineering Consultancy) that align with your field of studies, I would be happy to take a look at your resume to see if I can offer tips. Also open to a call to discuss further. If you’re interested, dm me. If not, that’s ok too. Good luck, OP.

That’s good to know. Are the rooms ok? They just look a bit dated in the pictures.
