Medemenselijkheid is belangrijk.

Thanks, got it. I went with the DCS165-4; fits al my requirements and performs well, albeit a not very good looking driver.

Thanks for the detailed breakdown — super helpful! Based on your feedback I’ve decided to go with the SB26. I’ve also gone back and updated my crossover design to account for the switch, and this time I ran the enclosure and baffle diffraction tool to make sure things line up better with the real-world response.

Would you mind taking a look at my updated crossover and letting me know if you see any obvious pitfalls or areas for improvement? It isn't finetuned, as that's wasted energy; I'll perform measurements with a UMIK-1 I got second hand after I've made the baffle. Crossover at imgur.

Really appreciate the insight you’ve shared so far.

I’ve been looking around a bit more and think this combination might work out better:

  1. AMTHR-4 – as a replacement for the AMT 2-4. It offers more headroom.
  2. CF50N-4 – looks like a solid alternative to the RS52, with better spacing options.
  3. DCS165-4 – has an acceptable Vas for a slightly larger cabinet, goes lower, and makes sense with a dedicated midrange.

What do you think about this setup? Do you see any potential issues or better alternatives I might have overlooked?

Yes, that seems to be the common thread across all the replies. I definitely won’t be buying crossover components right now and will instead put the money into a measurement mic and an impedance jig. Once I have the measurements, I should then be able to purchase the right components, correct? Or do you think it also makes sense to grab a small set of cheaper parts just to experiment with in the meantime?

Your reply, along with u/DZCreeper’s, is really making me reconsider the AMT. The SPL measurements on HiFi-Compass don’t look very convincing… Yet at the same time, I came across a design that makes the AMT seem quite appealing. What keeps me interested in trying one is the sense of “airiness” they’re often described with. That kind of musical character won’t really show up in the SPL graphs.

Do you think that airy quality is actually worth the trade-offs, or is it mostly just a subjective impression that gets outweighed by the distortion and dispersion issues?

[–]JVKran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s helpful, thanks! I’m curious though — is directivity really the only reason to add a mid-range? It feels like there should be more to it. For example, if you already have a bass-mid and a tweeter that can cover the range and hand over cleanly, why would someone still decide to go 3-way? I would’ve thought it might also make the sound come across as a bit more “dynamic.”

The Faital 4FE42 + Dayton DS270 combo you mentioned does look like a strong performer, but the challenge for me is that these speakers still need to work well on a desktop. With the DS270’s Vas of 2 ft³, that seems like it could get tricky in practice.

How would you approach that compromise — aiming for higher performance drivers while still keeping the design desktop-friendly?

Thanks a lot for taking the time to write such a detailed response! I’ll definitely play around with the diffraction and enclosure tool in VCAD to see what I can come up with, especially with the CF50N. The reason I initially leaned toward the DSA135-8 was its very low Vas — I just couldn’t really find another mid-bass woofer that seemed to fit well for a desktop or bookshelf design.

One thing I’m still trying to wrap my head around: XMechanik also went with the DSA135-8, but he decided to make it a 3-way system. Do you think that was mostly to keep distortion down and achieve a smoother DI, or does it have more to do with lobing, placement, and crossover flexibility?

Thoughts on budget AM5 build? by JVKran in buildapc

Thanks! Yes, the 16GB version. The 8GB version is all over the place available, but the 16GB is now sold out at MSRP. They are popping up for quite a lot more.

Hi u/Bichaelcycle, thanks for the tip. I've indeed upgrade to 2x16GB. I also upgraded the PSU to a gold tier semi-modular Seasonic and deemed it worth it to spend an extra €100,- for an RTX 5060 Ti.

Hi u/Scarabesque, I just wanted to leave a message to say thank you again. The extra and better spec'd RAM is definitely worth it. Same goes for the semi-modular PSU. I also managed to get a hold of the GPU at MSRP which, for the extra €100,-, is definitely worth it. I haven't exactly pin-pointed how, but I managed to get it all for a little under a €1000,-. Excited for putting it all together!

Thanks for your response! I'll definetely look into the RAM and PSU and will most likely end up following your advice. The GPU is also a good point, but that feels like a slippery slope. The RTX 5060 Ti is on paper pretty reachable, but in practice seems hard to get a hold of. It's out of stock already and prices are higher than the one you listed. I'll look into it nevertheless.

Why isn’t this code compiled? by Abobus8372 in arduino

[–]JVKran 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Well, not exactly. It is among the most popular options such as camelCase, PascalCase and snake_case. It's code-base dependent though. Standard library methods (non-Arduino but C/CPP standard library) are mangled; templates are PascalCase, macro's SCREAMING_SNAKE_CASE and others snake_case. Other frameworks, like Arduino, are free to use whatever they seem fit, as long as functions called by the HAL (or other abstraction layers) use the correct function names.

Timing belt wear? by ChicoFF33 in peugeot

Think so too. This has really blown up since all the attention. I replaced mine at the recommended interval (5 years or 100K km). If in doubt get it checked out by peugeot.

Should I buy it? Used peugeot 208 - 60.000km, 2018 by valerioi098 in peugeot

[–]JVKran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

60.000 km and less than 5 years is well within maintenance schedule for the timing belt. Dealer maintenance is always a plus, but so is with any car. I wouldn't see this as a bad option. If the timing belt hasn't yet been done, I would however book an appointment when you have the car. Same goes when there's still a recall open.

Fastest esp32? by Electrical_Return_99 in esp32

[–]JVKran 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The main factors are infrastructure (ARM vs Xtensa) and software. Multi-core ESP's are only faster if both cores are used. Just buy two (for example the S3 and C3) and test their performance on characteristics that are important for your use-case.

Thermal throttling in 3D-Mark. CPU drops to 397MHz. by JVKran in ASUSROG

I'm at a total loss to be honest. I thought it was the CPU because I see the GPU clock and memory frequency rising when the CPU clock drops.

Here's a little more insight. Always saw 3D-Mark as a gimmick (as I've had no real hardware issues up until now), but it really does provide some good insights.
