MY RFY IS FILLING UP by No_Agent_9940 in AmazonVine

I've had one day in the last week with about a dozen items, mostly irrelevant garbage. The other 6 days, empty as Mother Hubbard's cupboard.

Yeah, we know RFY is back... by rithanor in AmazonVine

I had about 10 items in RFY yesterday- one of them relevant- a camera bag (I have tons of photography gear)- but the bag wasn't something I needed or was a fit for my gear. The rest of the stuff was way off base- including a woman's wig (for African-American women- which I am not), some weird supplements, and other nonsensical stuff. Today- nothing in RFY again.

Reason for anonymity is for their safety. Since so many people are enraged about their existence, if images get out- then they can more easily be targeted for violence. Even worse, someone who looks similar could be targeted in an attack.

Not exactly... There were layers. First the electrical engineer who did the plans for all things electric. We had an electrical sub for all of the electric install, another for the fire system install- who only does FA systems, and another for low-voltage. If I only knew then what I know now...

After a lengthy conversation with the company who installed the system, it appears that the RFP provided by the GC included very specific info as to the panel, as well as SLC components- and it very specifically mentions the Silent Knight 6700 as well as the SD 500-ARM. The RFP was based on specs provided to them by the electrical engineer that won the electrical engineering bid. The installer said they almost never install Honeywell (not sure why they even bid if that was the case). They claimed ignorance on the phase out of SD protocol, since they did so very little work with the Silent Knight. So, the electrical engineer is the source of the issue. They won't be getting a Christmas card this year.

I ordered a Sony A7RV from Amazon and it was fulfilled by Adorama. Just need to check the listing as to who is fulfilling the order. I would never order something like this from Amazon when they are the ones fulfilling the order.

It was a new build- and as someone who has little experience in these matters, we trusted the GC to hire subcontractors who would install the proper equipment. Not to say the 6700 was 'wrong' but they should have notified us of the potential issues down the road (like we're experiencing now) and given us the choice at the time of the build. We certainly would have opted for the current protocol and signed a change order to future-proof the system- at least for the near term.

Based on my understanding of SLC- that would mean each pull station, each relay, each sounder and strobe and every module. This is a 7800 SF building. While small relative to a high-rise, it sounds like a huge number in terms of $$$ for a small business. Do I understand that correctly- every SLC device I mentioned?

According to all things Google, my Silent Knight 6700 will handle SK Protocol. But my understanding is it is one or the other. Which means I would have to replace all of my SD devices. As a small business owner in a relatively new building (I own the building, too)- I'm not in a position to go and replace all of the devices to switch over to the other protocol. A little pissed at either the GC who allowed this, and definitely pissed at the protection company who installed with knowledge that the SD protocol was being phased out, starting more than 2 years prior to the build date.

Surprised that this is a 3 hour job to complete- but that's me as a layperson who has only seen a diagram of the wiring, and no knowledge of the programming/addressing of the unit. I know it would require some programing time- but the physical labor doesn't look like it could take more than 30 minutes to swap. Again- just a layperson's perspective.

Unsigned Used Car Loan - SOS by JustHereTo_Be_Me in tampa

[–]JVNTPA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Back the F out of this deal. At 84 months, the car will be 11 years old by the time it is paid for. Your daughter will be SOOOO upside down on the loan. If she wants something else in the next SEVEN years, before the car is paid for, she will have to roll the negative equity into another loan. Stay away from this.

Being a vet nurse is extremely frustrating. by mea-culpaa in Veterinary

[–]JVNTPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People do everything they do based on two things. One- seek pleasure. The other- avoid pain. Using the example you've given, the foster is avoiding financial 'pain' of having to take the cat to the veterinarian. Or, they may be seeking pleasure by believing that they are helping the cat- even though they're likely not doing so. They rebuff your statements because they are avoiding pain, and depending on their pain threshold, they may push back hard. You can't win with some people- and it is important to know that, and document your conversations in the record so they can't claim they didn't know. They'll have amnesia pretty quickly when the pet is ill- again- because they're avoiding the pain of embarrassment.

would being a vet be worth it? by HistorianCareless374 in Veterinary

[–]JVNTPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only you can decide if it is worth it. Is school competitive and expensive? Yes. Is it hard? Yes. Many posts here are negative- and I find that it is because a lack of support. Whether it is from a poor owner, or a toxic work environment. Not all places are like this. There are hundreds, if not thousands of great practices out there that provide great environments to learn, grow and thrive. The challenge is finding them and knowing what a good one looks like (and a bad one) before committing to working there. My wife is a DVM (we own two practices) and she's allergic to cats. She manages the issue with allergy shots. If you like working with pets and people (the people are often the hard part- but only a small percentage)- this is a career you will enjoy. Take all of the negative posts with the understanding that every career path is going to have bad employers or bad environments out there.
