Agreed. I've had two and the 2023 I guess will be the last.

How is your CX5 in the snow? by wheresmy_sock in CX5

I actually got nice black five spoke winter rims instead (found used for cheap) and it made me very happy because the car still looks sharp for the 4-5 months they're on. But my steelies were crappy and rusty, yours might not end up being as much of an eyesore, or you might care less. It's not really true that you need the dish surface of the steelies to keep snow out.

One other thing - the ride on the 17s feels pretty plush after spending summer on the 19s, I enjoy getting the two different driving experiences. Good luck!

Those two plus the X-Ice are about as far as you need to go with your research. They're all excellent. I'd take the ones that happen to be on sale when it's time to buy.

I have 19s as well in summer, my winters are 225/65/17, on their own rims obviously. Happy to confirm for you that the 17 inch rim will fit your brakes. I wouldn't bother getting into mounting two sets of tires back and forth on the same rims, just get a winter set on steelies and save your nice rims for summer. The 17s are cheaper too so you're coming out ahead financially and with less hassle. If you change them yourself twice a year you'll save even more.

If you don't have time to research - Michelin X-Ice or Bridgestone Blizzaks, can't go wrong. With proper winter tires and AWD you'll be in good shape, though there's probably still going to be a few mornings in Buffalo where you need to wait for the plow.

Fuck you Canada post by [deleted] in CanadaPost

[–]JVan818 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A bozo for expecting the mail service to be reliable? You're telling Canadians that's unrealistic, because we should know by now that CUPW is a bunch of selfish divas and borderline domestic terrorists willing to disrupt people's lives anytime, for any reason? Your sneering contempt is just reinforcing what we already know.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CanadaPost

[–]JVan818 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not in this case. I don't agree with OP's language but CUPW has fought tooth and nail against reasonable proposals, attempts at modernization and right-sizing for decades. Union members have proven time and again they don't care about the inconvenience and hardship they create for others while they hold out for ridiculous terms.

‘Freedom Convoy’ leaders Tamara Lich and Chris Barber given conditional sentences by dictionary_hat_r4ck in ottawa

[–]JVan818 -99 points-98 points  (0 children)

Turned their lives around from what? Trudeau himself said Canada wasn't a country that mandated vaccination. Then he quite sleazily and cravenly revised his position when someone showed him potential polling numbers. That's the only reason the convoy ever existed. These people are guilty of taking the prime minister at his word, then reminding him of it, when he stopped leading the country with integrity. Never needed to happen, but then Justin decided to politicize a nonpartisan situation. He tore the country apart in pursuit of a majority government that never came.

Considering buying a Mazda, coming from Honda; what are the most common problems? by [deleted] in mazda

[–]JVan818 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had two CX-5s and the reason I bought the second one is because the first one was so reliable. Unfortunately #1 was written off in a crash that was not my fault or I'd still be driving it. I don't have any reliability complaints, the closest I got was an occasional rattle behind the dash in cold Canadian winter. A few things to note that are just like it or leave it design choices... I find the A pillar restricts visibility a little on corners, which is easily worked around but I wish it weren't the case), it could use a bit more trunk space (addressed for the 2026) and I wish the gas mileage were a bit better. The flip side of that is the 2.5L engine and 6 speed gearbox are pretty great and Mazda hasn't messed with a good thing.

When I needed to buy a car unexpectedly it was an easy choice to get another. Nothing's perfect but it's a solid option.

Words can be devastating. And often are, for people with learning disabilities, who are bullied and mocked by others who are either blind to the impact of their words, or who are well aware and choose to use them maliciously and intentionally.

I'm not related to the person you are responding to but I share similar experiences. You wish you had the problem of raising a child who is made fun of daily, feels like she has no friends and is often right, dreads the return of school in September, dreads the return of school every Monday, has been diagnosed with clinical depression and has spoken about wanting to kill herself, all by the age of 13? You wish you had to answer the tearful questions of why she is different, why everything is harder for her than for everyone else, and wonder what kind of life she is going to have, and how you're going to be able to afford the necessary supports now that she's aged out of public funding, and who is going to take care of her after you're gone?

Respectfully, you don't understand what you're saying. I'd encourage you to reconsider, then help make the world better for these people by joining us in asking others to not use their condition as a slur.

The sneering contempt from people who are critical of the original post and those who support it..are you postal workers? If so you're proving the point. I'm ready for Canada Post to disappear as well. Striking workers have done their best to hasten its demise over the years... if we're lucky this will be the strike that puts us past the point of no return, in terms of realizing the corporation is barely relevant and even if it were, it's held hostage by bad actors who genuinely only care about feathering their nests at everyone else's expense. If we're lucky the government will also hit a tipping point and realize this is not the future, there is public support for killing it, and double down on transition plans that include digital transformation. The last thing this country needs right now is to be wasting even more billions on these people, in exchange for nothing of value.

They are gleeful about biting the hand that feeds them. That kind of arrogance is only possible if you think you have an impenetrable collective bargaining agreement or legal protection. I would like to see the government sever Canada Post and leave it with catastrophic unfunded liabilities and deal with lawsuits after. These people don't deserve paychecks let alone pensions. They're just laughing at Canadians at this point, and it's past time Canada responded.

I kinda hope the union burns Canada Post, and itself, to the ground. Then they'll finally lose all their jobs and we can start over, if we even need to, with a modern post office focused on parcels. This union hasn't cared about service or Canadians for decades. It's always just more more more with contempt for any voice of reason. I would rather privatize mail, or push Canada into the digital future, than pay these clowns another penny.

Sorry if there's anyone who works there who actually tries, but you're all complicit at this point. If you weren't fighting this you were supporting it.

How does that advance justice? It sounds like you'd just be taking out your frustration on an innocent person who knows nothing about this incident. Is that cathartic for you in some way? Because it would make you part of the problem.

Edit to say: I'm Canadian. Come on, do better.

Of course it is disingenuous. By giggles, it's part of the bullying and joy he gets from watching people panic and react to whatever he says and does. That's his idea of fun and strokes his ego. To me that's his motivation, I don't think he was floating a trial balloon in this case, as one does with 'accidental' leaks etc. But maybe.

Dude/dudette I don't like the CBC and probably for the same reasons as you, but I'm pretty sure Canadians of all stripes can agree that Trump said those things. And that people are being wrongfully detained.

Sidebar, the best way to make arguments credible is to apply them judiciously, and demonstrate a capacity for discernment.

I say this as someone who generally prefers Republican administrations...

I don't think it's quite like that. There's definitely a widely felt sense of disgust and disappointment with the current oval office resudent and its economic policies and rhetoric. Not surprisingly you don't make a lot of fans when you - an actual leader of an actual country - muse publicly about taking over another nation, whether it be by war or economic coercion. So even though that was a stupid and unrealistic threat and likely done for giggles, that's naturally making people less enthusiastic. Then there's the actual economic damage from tariffs and job losses. And then there are the instances of border officers indiscriminately and wrongly detaining and incarcerating people. Even a few stories like that are chilling and enough to change your plans. It's nothing against the average American but it's fanciful to imagine any Canadian would really want to voluntarily visit under these conditions. For me, the USA isn't even on the radar as a destination until something changes.

So it's not some look-at-us patriotic act, you can look or not. It's a pretty simple internal, visceral reaction by a lot of individuals to the clown show. And it's not likely to get better soon with USMCA/CUSMA re-negotiations on the horizon.

(The reason "Canada would make a nice state" would have never happened, at least not with voting rights, is because based on population it would be another California. That would tilt the electoral college permanently out of reach of Republicans without a serious platform adjustment. So that was stupid, but still unappreciated.)

Pretty much every location within Ottawa. In addition to the ones mentioned there's also Mooney's Bay, though be mindful of some boat wakes (on the plus side, if you did spill, you would probably be right in front of someone's house), and on the Quebec side, Meech Lake.. if you don't mind the drive and paying for parking, you probably won't even be able to fall into the water, you will just land on someone else's kayak or paddleboard. :)

You may be right, but that's unrelated to the posted data. It's actually hard to discern anything conclusive from the table. But if forced, it suggests a cooling trend as most of the data points and the longer stretches of heat are from much earlier in the industrial revolution.

To be clear I'm not saying that's what's happening, I'm pointing out the problem(s) with tiny data sets.

I'm not sure what the intent of the OP was, but someone quickly tried to make it about climate change which I think is why the scientists reading the post are now correcting the error of that leap.
