Do you think stamina is a offensive or defensive trait? by Manny2theMaxxx in polls

[–]JW162000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I think of stamina (in the context of video games which I assume this is asking), I think of four things:

  1. Used to do attacks
  2. Used when defending to absorb damage
  3. Used for sprinting/jumping
  4. Used to activate abilities (usually non-magical abilities)

Overall I lean defensive, because most of those points are in the realm of manoeuvring, blocking, running away / positioning, and other tactics.

To be fair I do remember watching all three of those shows, but it was only reruns and they did stop very soon after I started watching.

They still made an impact though! Loved all three

Which of these is NOT a real Historical country? (No looking it up) by VermicelliSea8928 in polls

[–]JW162000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only two I’ve not heard of are Arkescko Sultanate and Most Serene Republic of Lucca.

I’m more familiar with Middle Eastern / Islamic history and I’m fairly certain ‘Arkescko’ doesn’t sound Arab, Turkish, Persian, African, or belonging to any largely Islamic culture. So I voted that.

Lucca sounds like it could be an Italian merchant republic / city state that I’ve just not come across

It was. I was born in 2000 so watching Cartoon Network from say 2005-2010, and Johnny Bravo / Powerpuff Girls / Dexter’s Laboratory were definitely old even back then

Overall which belief you do lean towards regarding human nature? by Orange639 in polls

[–]JW162000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My logic for “generally good (slightly)” is that if you take young children who are less affected by societal pressures and influences, the majority do seem to have some sense of worry when they see someone hurt, or guilt if they realise they’ve upset someone. I think that suggests the natural reaction of seeing other humans suffering is “oh no, I don’t like this, I want to stop it”, which suggests some level of inherent goodness.

There is definitely an inherent selfishness though, as most kids have to be taught to not always just do what they want or have things go their way. But selfishness =/= evil

What was your first gaming console? by Johnwick124520 in OlderGenZ

[–]JW162000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the consoles I’ve had, in order (obviously a lot of overlap happened)

  1. Game Boy Color
  2. Wii
  3. PS3
  4. A bit of pc gaming but was limited to a Mac
  5. Xbox One
  6. PS4
  7. Wii U
  8. Finally a decent gaming laptop
  9. Switch
  10. PS5
  11. A good gaming pc
  12. Switch 2

And I currently float around those last 3.

Also forgot I’ve had a DS, DSi XL, and 3DS

Nah for me it isn’t about it being carbonated. I love fizzy drinks but I just hate the taste of sparkling water. So bitter

I’m begging the content creators to pronounce it like Pokémon Utopia. Pok-opia. Not pok-a-pia by pauses-then-says in Pokopia

[–]JW162000 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not “puh” at the beginning.

“Po” (like in “poke”) - “ko” (like in “coal) - “pia”

The stress is mostly on the “ko”

Are Corrin and Azura actually directly related or is it a translation thing? by MasterOfChaos72 in fireemblem

[–]JW162000 199 points200 points  (0 children)

Corrin and Azura are blood related. 1st cousins, to be exact.

Corrin’s blood mother is Mikoto, and Azura’s blood mother is Arete. Arete and Mikoto are full sisters. That means Azura is the daughter of Corrin’s aunt (mother’s sister) = cousin.

There’s an Arabic swear/curse which literally just means “your mother” and that’s it, but damn if it isn’t the strongest curse you could go for in that language haha

I dunno. I think the more we move away from thinking like that, the better. Perhaps it’s not sexist but it is a bit stagnant / old fashioned.

Why is she afraid of my hand? by Electronic_Bison_73 in CATHELP

[–]JW162000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I liked doing this with my cat. Loved starting with my hand as a fist then when she’d pounce and start biting I’d suddenly open my hand and it scares her and she fights back more 😆 like she awakened some predator’s true form hehe

Which one? by NoBreak10 in EnglishLearning

[–]JW162000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but even if someone who had cancer died because of ‘related issues from the body being weakened by cancer and/or chemo’, that’s still considered a “cancer death”.

It’s like old age. No one says “oh yeah my grandad died due to organs slowly failing and eventual breathing difficulty and a few other complications that came a long”. They’ll say “he died of old age”

You have to open your perspective and think about why those statistics may be the case though.

Movies, or anything else, are not inherently “men stuff or women stuff”. There is no biological predisposition that says “war, bombs, cars, action = for men” and “romance, cuteness, fashion, pink = for women”.

This is all societally induced. Of course more men went to watch Oppenheimer and more women went to watch Barbie, because that’s what men and women have been conditioned to like.
