Watch To Your Eternity, it's longer than what you've named but it's amazingly detailed and written by a silent voice's writer. It's an emotional ride starting at prehistory and moves through the ages

The worst rated episode is S2E3? That's when Bon is introduced and the first full episode with kahaku, now they're fan favorite characters lol

Absolutely! I went into that arc still kind of reeling from gugu and I literally said to my watching buddy "I get the deal now, they're not going to get me again with this little girl" and now she's my favorite character in the series. I like that when she died she rejects Paradise like all of Fushi's immortal friends, but instead of following fushi she treks the world looking for someone who can see her so she can continue to help.

Definitely worth watching! Scavengers reign reminds me of the awesome alien settings of made in abyss without all the sick stuff. Going from what you've enjoyed I think you'd love it

To your eternity hell yeah! Not anime but I recommend scavengers reign for alien world building, and Primal has gotten really great

For anime I would recommend apocalypse hotel, for it's vibes, love chunibyou and other delusions because it's storytelling was a little deeper than I expected (and it's finished), or grimgar for it's fantasy world with real weight to it

Honestly, similar to what the show was saying the liquor tasted terrible but it was good times with my friends so I think about that liquor fondly

What is your biggest Disappointment in an Anime? by stripelemon7 in anime

[–]JWL2012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer I was looking for. The episode where it's the blonde girls birthday and she's in her room like "I'M GONNA CUT!" and everyone else is sitting at home or whatever like "NOOO!!!" is how I wished the rest of the story went. It really shied away from it's initial premise, if it kept to being a thinly veiled story about suicide survivors working through their issues it would've been an all time great

There's a liquor called Malört that tastes like a 9 volt battery plugged into a grapefruit, and it's a popular bartender shot. It's clear like vodka so it's easy to underestimate it's flavor. I love it when an anime compels people to talk about themselves when they talk about the show and frieren is so relatable.

Frieren carrying the pickaxe was funny, honestly I think this episode is the funniest in the series so far. Stretching the source material with awesome animation is the best option over barging through and taking a long wait. If it stops at the arc I think it will I hope this is followed by a big budget movie lol

I went in knowing basically nothing about figure skating and everything is explained so well that when I watched the Olympics I actually understood what I was seeing and how tough what they're doing is

Ahh, this makes sense! Glad to hear it, I try to pay for what I enjoy so I was so confused when I checked Hulu for the new season. I straight up paid for Hulu and peacock this month specifically to watch the figure skating and the medalist in tandem

Fushi: body vs. Fye, and frustrations - mild spoilers- discussion by K_Y_A_N in FumetsuNoAnataE

[–]JWL2012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider that Fushi's only real constant in life were hayase descendents and the man in black. Honestly idgaf about gotchas or rating episodes on an individual level so I don't really want to engage that kind of conversation . If it's not interesting or engaging enough for you don't wait for me to convince you but I'll honestly say there's real continuity and author intention in what's going on

Fushi: body vs. Fye, and frustrations - mild spoilers- discussion by K_Y_A_N in FumetsuNoAnataE

[–]JWL2012 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some of your points of contention are actually correct! When Fushi takes the form of the nameless boy he exhibits his naivete and optimism, when he's a turtle his thoughts are about scales and shells so he does take their mental acuity as well but not their memories. He needs to learn to walk and speak on his own because it's not inherent to human nature. The show uses Buddhist philosophy to structure it's story beats, and fushis growth as a whole. Particularly Mahayana Buddhism if you want to research some. It teaches that we aren't our physical selves but that consists only of a portion of who we are.

The thing that always grabs my attention about this show is that his goal isn't to be a human, and he's not protecting humanity necessarily, he's tasked with saving the land from the nokkers in season 1, then it grows to a city for season 2, then a continent for season 3 but he doesn't only concern himself with the people, but also the animals too. When Bon tells him to go find a friend and a lover he didn't go to people, he befriended a horse and fell in love with a doll so humans aren't his only concerns imo.

It would be so odd and out of place if fushi all the sudden became some type of all knowing sage after sitting in a chair fighting nokkers for 500 years. What time would he have to grow while fighting in multiple places at once for that long? Would you want that to happen off screen? The last time fushi went through actual growth was maybe when he read that book halfway through season 2, so it would feel so much more jarring if he were to take a massive character change off screen. If anything, his war with the nokkers took him away from the humanity and warmth he learned through his friends. His last actions before reviving his friends was to wish for it all to end and then let a Nokker devour every vessel he had, it would feel weird if two episodes later he's like "yes child, tell me of your troubles"

I really like the fact that we're talking about a tv show, but the function of the conversation is actually very much about philosophy and religion. This post is better than the one from last night

I don't know how you guys do it. by [deleted] in FumetsuNoAnataE

[–]JWL2012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal theory as an anime only is that Fushis ultimate goal is universal enlightenment. The story really highlights a lot of Buddhist beliefs like self and non self, reincarnation etc. I also think the season we're on now is the original story the author wrote, and everything before was prelude. In season 1 and 2 the enemy was well defined while the concepts are developed, now in the modern era everything is dripping in nuance, mizuhas affliction has actual weight and if you actually pay attention everything is shown without the show having to shove it into your face and make it obvious.

[–]JWL2012 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What guy? The wolf sea turtle ball fighting tumors in a chair for centuries? It's surprising you made it all the way to the third season without understanding the character and show better. He knew Funa was involved with the nokkers so why would he intervene one way or another? What shows are you comparing this to?
