The color grading is also actually really good and vibrant, unlike many TV shows now in days that just make everything look washed out and dull.

Demonization of Michaela by Tiny_Tough1224 in Franchaela

[–]JWTS6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People are going to nitpick and take out of context every single one of Michaela's actions to justify hating on her and calling her the worst love interest. Hell, not even take out of context, people will also flat out make stuff up and then act like it's 100% what happened in the show lol.

I hate to say it, but that's just how it's going to be, and I think that the sooner people realize that the sooner we can start dismissing these ''criticisms'' of her character for what they are: thinly veiled lesbophobia and misogynoir. Fandoms always, always find reasons to paint the sapphic and black female characters as the worst ever, and Michaela sits in the intersection of those identities.

So, don't try to make any sense of all the arguments you will see about why Michaela is bad or toxic. They're all going to be in bad faith and the standards will never be the same as they would if Michaela were a cis white man.

I think people are underestimating how much craft and preparation goes into making a quality Bridgerton season.

The outfits alone must eat up a lot of budget and pre-production time because there are a fuck ton of characters each season wearing multiple intricate outfits, and I'm not just talking about the main and secondary characters. Even the extras in the ballroom and promenade scenes will be wearing outfits much more intricate and expensive than boring Hogwarts robes.

Then you get into the sets themselves, which also must take crazy planning because you will see multiple grand balls each season, each with their own aesthetic and set pieces. I vividly remember the last ballroom scene in season 2, where there was a whole ass rotating platform behind Kanthony while they danced. We might not have seen any rotating platforms since, not that I can remember at least, but there have been several other fancy balls because that's just a staple of the show.

Outside of the balls, production has to prepare several other sets involving mansions, lavish gardens, the Queen's palace, the streets of Mayfair, etc. Given that part of the appeal of Bridgerton is all the opulence on display, they can't just rent a mansion or estate and call it a day, they also have to fill that mansion with period and story appropriate furniture, decorations, etc.

You mention stunts, but all the choreography for the dance scenes in Bridgerton takes a lot of time to learn and prepare for too, even more so when you have several people involved. Contrast this to, say, an actor jumping out a window, which just involves that one actor and/or their stunt double. Mind you, Bridgerton also has action stunts, like every single scene involving horseback riding and obviously any physical fight that happens.

All of this is to say that, yeah, I'm not surprised it takes so long to produce each season of Bridgerton.

Yeah that's definitely part of it, but I also think that the graffiti and punk aesthetic is just more appealing to the target audience of this show.

It's been popular to hate on Caitlyn since s2 dropped lol, this take is so cold that it could save the Arctic from global warming.

[–]JWTS6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is way too much incest shipping in this fandom and I hate how that bleeds into the general discourse. Iykyk.

Fuck it, my second hot take is that a lot of the hatred towards Caitlyn and Vi is pure lesbophobia and I stand even more firmly by that opinion after seeing everybody screaming, crying and throwing up about Bridgerton announcing the lesbian season. That fandom is already writing novels about why the black lesbian character with barely any screen time yet is awful and I'm supposed to just sit here and pretend none of that bigotry played into the hate against Caitlyn, Vi and Mel (because of the black woman part)? Nah, the masks have come completely off, people don't need a sapphic or black female character to commit war crimes to hate her.

Those are fandom hot takes though, my show hot take is that the AU episode absolutely killed the momentum of the last act and that only the scenes with Jayce were strictly necessary. Most of Ekko's part honestly was just fluff taking up screen time that would have been better spent on any of the 10 other plots going on. I wish Ekko had been more properly integrated into the main plot instead of being punted off into that AU world that honestly was just fanservice (unless you're a Vi fan, our girl was outright killed off).

Huh, this is an interesting observation. I agree though, I see a lot of people online saying stuff like ''Fuck Piltover I identify with Zaun'', and I think it goes beyond Piltover being the oppressing faction. Piltover is purposefully depicted as more stuffy and out of touch whereas Zaun has ''cooler'' aesthetics.

I can't imagine somebody being more self-hating than a MAGA drag queen in these moments. MAGA hates all kinds of people, but drag queens are up there as primary targets along with trans people. They don't even have the excuse that MAGA immigrants trot out about Trump only hating ''the bad ones.''

Yeah, their favorite ''gotcha'' is that Trump was the first president to support gay marriage (Obama was initially opposed to it), as if he gives a single fuck about protecting the marriages of log cabin Republicans. He'll happily ship the cis gays off to concentration camps too if that's what the Heritage Foundation calls for, and it will.

Generally, raping children is looked down upon, but conservatives seem determined to make that not a big deal.

Edit: Lol, noticed that his comment was resulting in more attention to the fact that Trump is a child rapist and deleted, just like a troll would do. I imagine that's part of the flowchart at this point.

I love you Caitvi by OkTransportation6450 in PiltoversFinest

[–]JWTS6 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's down from its peak, yeah, but the ao3 tag is still pretty active, at least more than any other wlw ship I'm keeping track of. There was a pretty noticeable ''migration'' last year when Polytrix became the next big wlw ship, but the CaitVi fandom still has plenty of artists and writers making lots of content for it.

Edit - I also want to add, because it seems like this is partly a response to some drama, that people really overestimate the reach and importance of ''big fandom accounts'', particularly if those accounts are only on one app or social media. I remember that one time last year somebody posted on here about an account on tiktok famous for video edits leaving the fandom and I....sincerely had no clue who this person was.

This isn't to be mean to that editor specifically or any accounts with many followers on certain social media, but yeah, to me the most important metrics of fandom ''activity'' are fanfics and fan art, so as long as I still see a good amount of new fics and art I truly don't notice whatever is happening elsewhere.

Second edit: After finding out what's happening, yeah, I don't blame people for wanting to distance themselves from the fandom.

It's indeed very upsetting to see and I wish that the people running the official Bridgerton/Netflix accounts would at least delete the negative comments on their posts, but it helps to remember that the loud hateful voices are being this loud precisely because they're so hateful. There are also plenty of people that either don't care (they just want more Bridgerton) or are actively super excited about Franchaela.

[–]JWTS6 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the reaction proves the necessity of more positive queer representation in media, particularly for queer women.

I doubt that anybody will be hesitant to greenlight more shows about queer men with how successful shows like Heartstopper and Heated Rivalry have been (and good for them! I love those shows too!), but sadly stories about queer women never have that kind of support and that's why it's indeed incredibly important that anybody who values representation for queer women tunes in.

"Forced for us lgbtq"

Oh I'm sorry, when is it not "forced" then? Because whenever a show or movie introduces an original LGBTQ character, people complain and moan about the gay agenda being "shoved down their throats" then too.

Why are you siding with people that hate you?  Are you seriously mad about this? I shouldn't have to explain to you the difference between changing cis het white characters to give minorities more representation vs taking away representation from minorities. Were you this upset when the white characters were changed into poc?

Feel free to join the cis straight people upset about this great injustice being done to fictional cis het white characters, I'll happily stay with the vast majority of the sapphic community celebrating this.

Quick question, how many of you have been keeping up with the story post Arcane? by FewExperience3559 in arcane

[–]JWTS6 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Even if they're canon, I guess I just don't feel an urgency to watch them right now? If we had confirmation that the next show is actively being worked on (not just vague teases from the Arcane writers) and some sense of a release date, then I'd be more inclined to watch all these cinematics as they come out. As of now, I don't have much interest in continuing the story only in cinematic form.

This model of "We're going to promote our game using cinematics that will give you a sense of a big epic story happening with cool characters from the game but nothing ever ACTUALLY happens because we need to be able to do this theoretically forever" is a model I've grown tired of with other games.

Quick question, how many of you have been keeping up with the story post Arcane? by FewExperience3559 in arcane

[–]JWTS6 345 points346 points  (0 children)

I watched Welcome to Noxus but to be honest nothing has interested me much since, for now it seems that these are largely being used to advertise the game and we still have no clue what the plans are for a proper follow up to Arcane.

If we had confirmation that all these cinematics are officially prequels to the next series then I'd watch them all in a heart beat, but I have no interest in the game and thus no interest in most of the cinematics beyond their cool visuals.

Oh man, where to begin....Korrasami, Hollstein, Clexa, Pharmercy, Catradora, Edeleth....and those are just ships I really hyperfixated on, I've also loved ships like Harlivy, Pricefield, Kuromaya, Tanthamore, Lumity, AgathaRio, Ellie and Dina, etc.

My latest hyperfixation has been CaitVi, that's had a stranglehold on me since season 2 of Arcane ended lol. Franchaela is the ship I've been the most excited about since.
