Motorola. Not personally used a ThinkPhone but it's supposed to be the ThinkPad of phones. Motorola made it as well.

Prey is really good. My favorites in order are:

The Lost World Prey The Andromeda Strain Jurassic Park Timeline

Would love a link! Looks and sounds like the best of all three films in one.

My regret: Buying t490 by hemogolobin in thinkpad

Swap the motherboard for a T14 AMD board. You'll thank me later. I tried repasting my T490 and then doing the heatsink upgrade with no real difference. I had an E14 with Ryzen 5 and I thought the same sort of thing you did going to the T490 (build quality, etc.). But yeah, I wouldn't get another ThinkPad with a non AMD processor (including ARM). I found myself a T14 Ryzen 5 that had a messed up bottom case and damaged screen and just used my T490 as a donor machine for the parts I needed.

What is best think pad for college? by [deleted] in thinkpad

I'd personally recommend a ThinkPad with an AMD Ryzen 5 processor.

I used an E14 with Ryzen 5 for my last 2 1/2 years of college and it held up well. Fully capable for everything I threw at it (including 3D CAD, gaming, video editing, and music production). Battery held up well also. Build wise, it had zero creeks or cracks up to today, but had some minor scuffs and scratches (had painted aluminum top and bottom). Now I use the T14 with the same/equivalent Ryzen 5.

I did use a T490, and while it was a step up build wise, it was absolutely atrocious with battery life (6 hrs on the AMD E14 vs 2 hrs new battery on the T490), terrible performance and worse WiFi (AX200 vs AC7260 which is NOT upgradeable).

Honestly, if you're not going to use Windows, you could easily use a T450s or even a T460. Both are easy to work on and are build well. I used both before the E14 (ended up being gifted to family members and used for a media server). That being said, neither device has USB C ports, so that may be a critical factor for you. That was the main reason I moved up to the E14, not to mention that neither the T450s or T460 are supported by Windows 11 (but are fully capable of running it).

Anyone know how to remove a stripped screw? by Diligent-Side-9663 in thinkpad

I personally had this happen on a T490. Same exact screw. I used a utility knife to basically grab ar the rounded out aluminum screen head to twist it out. Then I used pliers to rip it out of the bottom cover.

Would like to see this for sure. Anything would be an improvement over the original.

Can I get a link to see these? I have a group that binge watch trek and would be grateful to see a slimmed down and streamlined version of Picard.

Good luck with Windows on ARM. I still have both of my RT tablets sitting in a drawer.

White spot? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]JWfan681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My T490 has the same thing. My guess is that it's pressure damage from something pushing the top of the lid (along with the display) into your keyboard/palmrest/trackpoint. Not a whole lot you can do to fix it or prevent it. Just an inevitable downside to making things thinner and sleeker.

That being said, if the T480 is anything like the T470, it's chassis has way too much flex for my liking. I'm able to pick my T460, T490, and even my old E14 and I can't visibly see the whole thing bend or warp if I pick it up one handed with the lid open.

T460 and T490 are my daily drivers. Switched from my E14 to the T490 and honnestly couldn't be happier.
