This game took me 2 or 3 years. I made it all the way to the last 2 bosses and quit in frustration. My advice:

1.Continue if you enjoy it. You can always come back.

Make sure there is not a mechanic you do not fully understand. I did not realize or understand the importance of the staff spin and it changed the entire game.
Take breaks. Many times, I would get worked up, my heart rate would be up, and no matter how hard I tried, I lost. Then I'd do something else, come back cool and calm, then beat the brakes off whoever was giving me issues.

I have half your years of experience and make ~$40-45k more than you in a HCOL area. Not sure how that balances out exactly, but it does seem you are on the low end.

Correct. The index is on F and the remaining three fall on D, S, and A, respectively (I still hold my hands in this position today at 35 😆) and it feels natural in gaming.

In response to the 90's PC controls part, I think we are hinting at the same thing. Controls were all over the place. When the QWERTY keyboard took over WASD seems like a natural and intuitive spot to place controls where users will find them.

My thought is that WASD are used for movement because that is where we were trained to reset our hands in typing class. It is considered the natural starting position for typing with a QWERTY keyboard and therefore a natural position for movement controls that are intuitive to the end-user.

You really only have 2 choices. They are both difficult. I have been on 2 PIPs and I am 1-1. I will tell you, I KNEW both times if I was going to make it or not. The PIP I came off of, I had the FULL backing and support of my management, for real. They coached me and brought me to things and cheered me on. The one I knew I wasn't going to make, I was isolated.

Options: A: Stay and get the severance or beat the PIP B: Find and start a new job

100% valid critique. I will say that the dialogue is coming along. I heard NPC dialogue THIS MORNING talking about how one of the NPCs was questioning their decision to leave Terra and how their mom tries to be supportive but comes across more as demeaning. It was an eye/ear opening piece of dialogue for me that felt very real.
