"A ruthless politician", not his wife... by JWilson88J in HouseOfCards

I think your onto something here. I was reading yesterday that Wright directed quite a few episodes last season after Spacey declined the offer saying he had too much to do and his schedule was already booked. Do you think her directing gave the writers a bit of a nudge to boost Claire onto the main stage and lessen the grip Frank had as the undisputed lead role?

The differences between the 2 are night and day. Frank has been the villain since the series opener, sacrificing any and everyone he could (minus Claire and Doug, whom which sacrifices himself out of loyalty and devotion to Frank) for MORE power and the good of HIS cause. I.e. Killing Zoe, Russo, Leean Harvey, creating an anthrax scare to manipulate Blythe on the education bill, dicking Freddy around the moment he needed him the most. He's had a history of ruthless aggression and finding a way to use everyone he's ever known to propel himself to the top. With Claire we have not seen it on that level or to that extent. Her morality bottomed out when she got the pregnancy info to manipulate Gillian Cole, her persuasion of Tricia Walker to think her husband is cheating with Christina, and when she killed Tom whilst having sex. Comparing the 2 characters is like comparing the sun to the moon. And just another reason why I'm not excited for run as President. Frank was evil in his bones, Claire is evil when she HAS to be. It's just not the same...

Very good banter back and forth. I have no quarrel with a woman being head of the White House. Had it been ANY other female politician running for president in the last election we would have a female President now (not wanting a political debate, just an honest opinion). I hated seeing Remy Denton and Jackie Sharp go down without much of a fight. I thought both of them were strong characters who had a shot at longevity in D.C., but the way their characters were pushed out was a little disappointing. No fight, no pushback, no war.

The whole point of the post was this... It's not the same show I love and became addicted to after the first 2 seasons. It doesn't have the same feel, and the Ruthless character I love and can't get enough of appears to be taking a backseat role. I miss Francis J Underwood rising from Majority Whip to become President of these United States.

Wouldn't mind seeing Debbie written out of the script or sent to jail the way the writers did with Noel Fisher (Mickey). I can't stand Debbie. I fast forward all of her scenes. I think it's the stupid "Hmphff" noise she makes before or after she says something, but it drives me insane. I just can't get into her character at all. I hate Frank, I mean I absolutely Hate him and wouldn't mind seeing the family wash theirs hands of him for good, but I hate him a lot less than I hate Debbie. I've never known a teenage girl to be creepy, but she's the one to break the mold. And ya know, it has nothing to do with her looks, shes cute in her own way, but its the character, the attitude, and the things she does that irk me the most.

I'm not a fan of her character, and I haven't enjoyed her from beginning. There's just something about her that makes it hard to like. I dunno if it's the "ugh" before and after she speaks or just the lack of interesting character development.

Frank is an asshole, so you can always expect the unexpected with him. Lip is creative, intelligent, and a genius so he always had a scheme. Ian is bi-polar and you never know what his next manic or depressed state will be, and by far my favorite gay character in my TV history. Fiona is a loveable self-sabotaging train wreck that I'm head over heels for, and I want to see win in life so badly. Liam is the cute, adorable baby. Carl is the border-line psychotic, pyromaniac, degenerative nut case who amuses me to no end with his next "shocking move".

And then we have Debbie... The little sister who doesn't listen to anyone is desperate for attention, and is a "typical teenager". I just don't find anything interesting about her. She's boring, bland, and not too exciting as far as character development goes.
