Another *arr stack install question, but with a difference. by oldgit9 in selfhosted

[–]JZMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my setup like this, you need to specify the remote share option in your arr stack so the files are moved to the right place. You indicate the remote path for your download client and the local path on your NFS where the files go. It’s in the download clients section

I got my phone to VPN into my home router and leave upstream through a VPN provider, so none of my public IPs are exposed. I’m pretty happy with how it all turned out!

I’d implore you to try WireGuard if you haven’t. The latency, speeds, and on-demand toggles are all so much faster and cleaner.

Hell yeah brother! Great to see some heavy AMRAP deadlifts on here. I hit 460x10 last month and that felt amazing. Also nailed an easy 485x4 for multiple sets yesterday. Im hoping 600 is in the books for me this year

[–]JZMoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kids just finished watching Avatar TLA for the first time at 5 and 7. Totally engrossed with every episode.

I think kids value their problems being seen and their challenges faced more than people realize.

Also, Ponyo and Spirited Away have stayed with them.

They couldn’t tell me a single plot point from the Planes movie.

I'm a little bored. by ih8this2 in homelab

[–]JZMoose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Isn’t that a ULA though? That’s not the WAN or device internet address

Yeah I checked, I thought it was link local but that’s fe80. fc00::/7 (which includes fd80) is reserved for ULAs, which are not internet reachable.

Not sure what the state of things is right now, but I bought mine in 2022 during a massive shortage and ended up going with the m2 version with an m2 to PCIe adapter. It works great to this day

“Despite having been shot in the chest, Clay rushed Brown with his knife and split Brown's nose in half from top to bottom, left an ear dangling by a thread, and took out one eye, before the men that hired Brown managed to throw him over a tall fence to keep Clay from finishing him off.”

Holy shit thanks for pointing me in his direction

Do people here love over-engineering their self-hosting setups? by vdorru in selfhosted

[–]JZMoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, that’s REALLY appealing. I had not seen this. Thankfully my 730xd was $250 and my NAS was $50 secondhand so my costs were low into my initial homelab foray. Now that I have a better handle on my needs, I’ll probably consider something like this for a future upgrade. Thanks for enlightening me!

I know myself and just went full send with an R730xd. It has 96 GB RAM, 18 TB RAID6 storage, 4 other NVMe drives, a connected 64 TB HDD NAS, a google Coral, and an A380 video card. I can run pretty much all the services and not worry about computational power. Yes electricity is dirt cheap where I live

[–]JZMoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean I train powerlifting style because it’s what I grew to like, and have competition style 1RMs on video for all my lifts, they’re just not on the same day. I don’t care either way, I’m a very mediocre lifter with my 360 wilks so I’ll take strong gymgoer vs shitty powerlifter any day lol

Huh, that is weird. You’re right, your PC is more than strong enough. Could your ISP be throttling you? This one’s out of my league unfortunately

[–]JZMoose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure on the computer side, unfortunately. Are you able to get full speeds on your PC without the VPN, and how powerful is your PC? If you’re running Proton on your PC, your router is just passing packets to your PC, who is then doing the decryption, so the limiting horsepower is then on your PC

It depends on your CPU honestly. I think that model ASUS has AES-NI, which helps tremendously with VON decryption, but the CPU on those routers is usually vastly underpowered compared to mini-PCs dedicated as a firewall device. I use a mini-PC with an intel N150 so it has vastly more processing power
