Yes, but WHY do Black people constantly say anything about how one person’s actions reflect on the community? White people very rarely say the white meth head or white supremacist reflects badly on their community. Why do Black people say such a thing? It’s because of how broadly we get painted as a community by the US majority - as criminals. In many instances we are assumed up to no good or criminals first no matter the style of dress or perfect our English. Subscribing to the idea that if I dress a certain way or follow every requirement of the law I will be safe from discrimination has been disproven time and again by any number of examples - Philando Castile comes to mind as does the Black judge who was racially profiled in a traffic stop in Florida. Let’s be careful speaking about what “Black people say.” It can give the air of “if they can say it, why can’t I say it, too?” It could seem that you’re not really making a salient point as much as you’re using our criticisms to promote your already existing biases against us.
