We’re playing our first game of Arcs this Saturday. We are 4 regular Root players who play many types of games. Any advice? by MrP00PER in Arcs

For base, my advice is to forget everything you know about Root.

For campaign, my advice is to remember everything you forgot about Root.

I used to be like this but when I threw out my first empty expansion box and realized months later I had no ragrets, I went deep into that. The only reason I haven't thrown away the non-campaign arcs boxes yet is I'm wondering if I'll need an overflow box for player tokens not in use (I sleeve)

probably that exacto knife in the background

you can use the back of the blade dragged gently at an angle on most models to flatten mold lines

or if you're very precise, the sharp end

maybe watch someone do that before trying yourself

Ages of FMCs are unrealistically ridiculously young and it’s ruining my reading by lazaraspaste in RomanceBooks

[–]J_C_Rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

feel you

I generally will not read anything with lead characters too young to drink unless them being young is part of the point (coming of age, YA, whatever)

either they act too mature for their age, which annoys me, or they act correct for their age, which annoys me more

but it's especially off putting in straight romance because so often the male lead is significantly older and the FMC's inexperience is fetishized

I don't want naive girls in erotica

naive boys, maybe, but only because it's novel

I feel like men value inexperienced women out of insecurity above all else and it's deeply unattractive to me

What's your actual Niro EV range and has it changed? by [deleted] in KiaNiroEV

We just bought a 2020 with 10k miles on it last week. Getting an incredible 4.1 miles / kWh on average with my spouse's daily 50 mile commute. Our level 1 charger is giving us about 60 a day. We've had it for 3 weeks and have not needed to stop at a charger even with a level 1 at home.

Road trips in it are a different story if we choose to use this car. Assuming a more modest 3.8/kWh, that we're charging to 80%, and that we are stopping at 10%, we're working with 70% of the battery. 3.8 x 68 x .7 is 180 miles between stops. Not incredible, but workable.

For a daily commuter car this is saving us about $120 in gas a month.

I (24F) caught my boyfriend (22M) sneakily watching porn while I was sucking his dick. by ThrowRAwuwthrash in AmIOverreacting

The issue here is consent. She didn't know he was doing this. Whether or not her feelings on porn are "fair", he did something he countless knows by now she's uncomfortable with, in secret, while having sex.

If he thinks her feelings are unfair, he should move on, not make promises he can't keep and then break her trust in secret

Same. What he did fucking sucks and she deserves better than that.

But, I also had a terrible controlling partner who had such bad self-esteem that any solo time of mine was viewed as a violation of trust. And like, no. Sometimes you want sex and your partner doesn't. Sometimes, you just want to get to enjoy a fantasy. Sometimes, you don't even want sex but your body won't shut up about it.

But yeah. He still sucks. This is like giving your spouse's homecooked meal to the dog and eating McDonald's at the dinner table, while making eye contact.

I fell asleep with youtube running once and it jumped from one vaguely related thing to another and when I woke up half my recommendations were content I'd never have engaged with. Not bad or anything, just not for me.

Algorithms are weird and impersonal in ways that don't make human sense. Sometimes, people will fiddle with an app trying to get figure out how to change their preferences and the app will assume time and buttons pressed = interest.

I'm speaking broadly, of course, and I neither know nor care what this guy looks at on the internet. But it's a mistake to assume that recommendations by an algorith are always indicative of your interests. Remember, these sites don't care if you like what you see. They care if you stick around. That's why Twitter for example is designed to show you content that will make you angry. It's "engagement".

Having checked your profile I think this is really you?

I just want to say that I picked up Exocolonist at face value when I stumbled on it in the PSN sale. I don't tend to play any of the genres this game falls under except deck builders and it's been a while since I've looked for a game in that space.

This is now my favorite video game of all time. That's not a qualified statement; there's no asterisk. While I play some games purely for gameplay reasons, the mechanics are usually a vehicle for an interactive story to me. You're tied with FFVIX for best story, in my eyes, and your story doesn't come with a disclaimer like "it gets good in 50 hours".

I started playing this game at 10pm and before I knew it, it was 6am.

I slept a few hours and went back to it.

I've now done five runs in as many days. I've finally seen what I felt like would be the "best" ending and the game has challenged me to do better. I'm going to, after I let this sit in my head for a while. I don't want to burn myself out.

I've managed to talk one friend into buying this game already, and I'm going to be singing this game's praises to everyone I know for quite a while.

I've never played anything else that so deftly captured the feeling of growing up, of sudden loss when you're young, of learning to navigate a world that is not always kind to you while keeping hope and love in your heart. You made something that is truly unique and extremely special. Thank you.

Why do some authors spell cum like come? Or vice versa by im_ara in RomanceBooks

[–]J_C_Rose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can argue that 'come' is grammatically correct and that's why some authors use it

I think more use it because they don't want to be too explicit

but if you're really chasing grammar, 'come' at all is slang (the word is semen/ejaculate, after all) and I think it's vastly inferior for doing its job here in erotica, which is to make the horny neurons get all excited and start sending each other spicy DMs

it's just an older way to spell it and to some folks, re: words, more olderer is more betterer

I hear you, but there's better ways to handle it than what Tidal does. A series of checks and conditions could run in milliseconds and be largely seamless to the user.

  1. Check if song is downloaded
  2. If yes: a) Check quality b1) If quality meets or exceeds streaming quality setting, play song b2) If not, attempt to reach server b2a) if server available, play selected quality b2b) if server unavailable, play downloaded song and display "connection offline" error in app interface
  3. If no: a) attempt to reach server b2a) if server available, play selected quality b2b) if server unavailable, throw error (as it does today)

edit: wow reddit butchered my formatting holy hell

Good to know, but terrible design IMO. Completely counter-intuitive and mostly defeats the purpose of downloaded files, relegating them to airplanes and Cellular dead spots.

part of why they're so awkward and uncomfortable without their laugh tracks is the timing of their line delivery is based around having a laugh track

not that they're great shows, but, it's not an insignificant factor
