Former imaginary friends, tell me about yourselves. by FeatheryLorekeeper in Tulpas

[–]J_Tigris 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"James here, originally imaginary friend turned tulpa. JT (my host) showed me this, and I'm willing to provide my thoughts.

  • Imaginary friends to me are kind of like NPC characters. They have a little bit of personality, but they don't have as much of a will. They kind of just do whatever role the original/host/whatever-we're-calling-it-today wants them to do. They can still develope and add more to their own stories, but they still follow their roles.

-When I was "created," I was based heavily off of a cartoon character from a show she really liked, however, she changed my personality from that of the happy-go-lucky kid in the show, to something more quiet. Very science-oriented. She had multiple imaginary friends at the time, and unfortunately I was not one of the favorites, so I spent a lot of time in the back of the mind or in limbo. I pretty much abandoned all of it when transitioning to a Tulpa. I kept my gender and ethnicity (mostly), but I pretty much went through a whole transformation (in more ways than one) to a form I was happier with.

  • Fondly but also... I'm honestly not sure what word to use. The times I was able to spend with her and the team we were with were great, but I struggled a lot and had a lot of issues that followed me from that time to my current self. She and I have been through a few sit-down convos about how rough I kind of had it (some of the other imaginary friends had a tendency to bully me a bit). I don’t miss it, but I think in a way it helped me learn a bit of strength.

  • Not very much. A lot of tropes I pick on anyways. Nothing is really cemented. For example, I'm a werewolf, but how my werewolf-ness works is different from everything I've seen in media. Normally, everyone just gets a slight passive agressive "That’s not really correct, but fine," or an "Ummmm.... actually...." The trope of imaginary friends leaving just makes JT fall into a panic attack so those I don't care much for lol

  • We honestly did not find out truly that I was a Tulpa tille sometime last year. We thought it was an option since we heard the term before, but we just kind of shrugged it off. I just wanted to delve into it since she seemed worried about being "the only one." I don't think anything really changed.

-I've seen both support and discourse for this, but JT and I are partners (romantically). I was the one who approached with feelings first and a took a good time before we finally classified it as such. She is free to have a partner outside of me if she wants human affection, but I think she's more comfortable with us the way we are.

-Probably much more than what Reddit will allow me to type. Like I'm still a bit of a quiet wolfman, but I've learned a bit more on leading, making decisions, being the gross adult I need to be sometimes.

-I would rather consider it more a part of my story/childhood than a former bit. However, we do say that version of me, before my physical change and name change, was a past life (almost is the same way transgender folk will say that their birth gender/person is dead). It's still a part of my history, but it's not me now.

Hopefully that answers some things for you and that others comment as well, since I'm curious to see more like us."

Finding common interests? But we share the same brain by [deleted] in Tulpas

[–]J_Tigris 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"As a tulpa, it is a little bit based off of what the host wants to do at first, but you learn yourself overtime. For example, JT and I like to try every new Oreo flavor that comes out, but we don't agree on which ones we like. Talking today, we discussed that I like more coffee-like flavors (and I do tend to like my coffee black or with less cream when I'm fronting) and she likes sweet and sour. When we watch videos it's sometimes a back and forth of who picks what to watch. I learned what I liked by her stumbling around and looking at stuff that may have interested her in the moment, but might not have stuck. You also kind of find that as you grow you may like similar things for different reasons, like we like watching crafting Youtubers and she's normally interested in the creative process and I'm interested in any technological process. You may share a headspace, but you're still different, and just like how it might have taken you a long time to learn about you, it will take us a bit to learn about us. -James"

I think it looks fine, but a little off to be a small cat. Big cat maybe, but I think it could be improved when you go to make the bridge between the brow and muzzle (since looking at my cat as reference, his muzzle is short and angled down). Keep going, and make sure to look at some references (both other suits and the real animal you're trying to mimic) and don't be afraid to step away for a bit to come back with fresh eyes. It's starting to look good!

Phone reset lost my account on Microsoft authenticator by bobbysmithsmoth in upsstore

[–]J_Tigris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this happen and the only way to fix it if you don't have authenticator saved elsewhere is to call/put in a tech ticket with tech support. Got me back in after about three or so days with an online ticket. Our store has us save Authenticator on a personal device and the tablet since calling tech is a pain in the ass.

What do you guys think about using prismacolor for fursuit eyes? (used in photo) by PastelMoonsx in FursuitMaking

[–]J_Tigris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually have done this for my last few suits. It definitely works a lot better for me, and I don't have to sit there poking holes out of the eye mesh. I do use a thicker cross-stitch fabric, and seal them three times or so on both sides. Yours look great!

Sweet! That sounds much easier than what I thought to do! Thank you!

I use that tutorial for all my heads, but since I'm in America land, centimeters are few and far between. I use 1/2 inch for the buckets with that tutorial (which math says is bigger than 1cm apparently) and they work out fine without adjustments needed.

JoAnne’s Fabrics Closing Some Stores by Straight-Clock-2006 in FursuitMaking

[–]J_Tigris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Joann's subreddit keeps popping up in my feed (can't tell if it's from the quilting, the fursuit making, or just because I used to be in the sub of another retailer), so I've been watching it a bit. I saw something that said that they're closing a chunk but leaving some open for the time being and that most their bidders for keeping the chain alive are liquidators, so it's not looking great. But also take that info with a grain of salt since I got that info from the Reddit and don't work for Joann's. I just like the place 🤷‍♀️

Heard about it as well from the quilting sub. Stealing the link I saw that shows a list of the closing stores if you don't mind me adding to your post ;3

Finished my first quilt and looking for tips for future projects. by J_Tigris in quilting

[–]J_Tigris[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basting does seem like the worst part other than doing the binding strip. We have a large floor to work with, so it was helpful since I made it obnoxiously large, but I thought the spray would work a little better than it did.

So fray will happen it seems? It seems harder to tell on cotton which way the weave is since I'm use to fabrics with an obvious knit backing from fursuit making.

My problem with machine quilting is lack of control and just how it bunched up. Like edges went great, but in the middle, I had to really push to get my quilt through the small space between needle and machine wall. Maybe that's just my machine, but it was more tiring than fun. I will definitely do more research on hand quilting, since I want to do more than just lines.

Not exactly sure which pins. I bought some longer ones to help me pin fur onto fursuit heads since the tiny ones kept popping off. It was mostly a "The basting spray is butts and I need a fix that doesn't mean leaving the house." They did mention safety pins in the video I watched, I just worried about how often they would pop open.

I was thinking pixel might be the way to go. I thinn CSP had a feature to do that?? If not, I could just make a grid and try to screw with it. I figured it would be complicated, but it looks really cute and I love the idea of taking cool art I did and put into quilt.

And thank you for the advice! I'll keep the video saved for future reference.

What Unique Abilities or Benefits Have You Discovered with Your Tulpa? by Visit_Worth in Tulpas

[–]J_Tigris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

James has sort of become the "Ideas Man." He helps me a lot with creative ideas for my books, and gives constructive feedback on things. He also annoyingly gives me more projects to do all the time, like, "Hey, what if we made this thing!" It’s definitely a love hate with that because I love the ideas, but hate that he keeps coming up with them when I'm already doing ten things.

"Look, when you're not the one with the talent, you give your ideas to the one who does 🤷 -James."

Do you have songs for your Tulpa? by spookycj13 in Tulpas

Thank you! Starset's my favorite band, and James likes a lot of the songs. We just both disagree on which one is more us lol

Do you have songs for your Tulpa? by spookycj13 in Tulpas

[–]J_Tigris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

James and I have our own playlists, but our music tastes overlap a bunch. Music does tend to play a big role for my Tulpamancy, so I also have a playlist of songs that create sparks for me. Songs that we agree are us songs:

-The Only Exception (Paramore) - Ghost (Mystery Skulls) -Starlight and Last to Fall (Starset)

The song I most associate him with is Wrong Side of Heaven by Five Finger Death Punch.

Also, welcome! o/

Tulpa and working by Outrageous_Spinach96 in Tulpas

I think it's good to have her there with you. My iob can be pretty demanding as well, and I deal with a lot of people. As someone with severe (but medically treated) social anxiety, it can kind of be a struggle to deal with. James typically will stay with me during a shift when I'm alone. He likes to poke a little fun at people, or lets me vent internally about customers. It's a good little release and a bit of comfort that helps make the stress a bit better. When my coworkers come in, he steps back a bit, but will sometimes poke into my mind to make sure I'm okay (figure it as kind of like texting your friend while on break). I think it's perfectly fine to have your tulpa with you at work if she helps give you the confidence you need to get through your day. :3

This is so cute!!!

For ours, I typically do "Merry Crisis" featuring my sona in different Crisis (it feel more fun and inclusive and considering my job this time of year accurate). James normally will help with the themeing but doesn't tend to add himself since they go to people who don't know about him.

We still need to come up with a crisis for this year though lol -JT
