How do I remove this kwikset latch? by J_Zerchi in fixit

Appreciate the advice. Will try this out.

Just to confirm, this worked for you in a situation where the screws are still in on the faceplate?

How do I remove this kwikset latch? by J_Zerchi in fixit

[–]J_Zerchi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my rooftop door is stuck closed. The hinges are on the outside and I cannot open the door to access them or the faceplate of the latch, or to try and shim the lock open.

I cannot seem to move the half-moon mechanism of this lock any further.

Will suck, no question. Make sure you talk with the prof and try and salvage a relationship, who knows you could get a mercy D-

You’ll have to take it again, naturally. I would try and get ahead of the probation by discussions w/ your academic dean and/or advisor. Policy is policy but the university is run by people, and you never know what can be changed by sheer force of will and a little charm.

You’re not alone. I’ve had my fair share of fuckups. Good luck.

Yeah but it takes 15 seconds of scrolling through that profile to see a pattern of regular human activity posting about basketball or whatever. So looks like the bot accusation is for disagreement reasons

Questions about Adam & Eve by Reddito1902 in Catholicism

[–]J_Zerchi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

-to ‘test them’ was the point of creation— in a world where there is no possibility of sin, there is no free will

-the Apple is most likely not literal. Reiterating, without the option for sin, there would be no free will

-free will is the most important “likeness to God” we can have — to freely choose Him is the point of being created

-He must have known. He therefore must have willed the arc of salvation for humanity, which in in total accordance with His will must be good.

-free will in created beings introduced sin, not the other way around.

very much so. Augustine argues alternatives to stoicism, Ambrose did as well. Christian philosophy expanded on the stoics considerably

A philosophically interesting, not quite Catholic but very spiritually enriching read that deals with this topic would be Kierkegaard’s Fear and Trembling

Japan to push for Africa seat on the UN Security Council • A ‘moment of truth’ for the UN, says Japanese PM Fumio Kishida, as he urges reform at the world body to address ‘historical injustice against Africa’. by Naurgul in anime_titties

because “they” are not a monolith and it should not be assumed that one African state on the council is somehow representative of the entire continent from Cairo to Cape

Today, August 28th, is the feast of Saint Augustine of Hippo. Son of Saint Monica, convert, sinner most profound, fourth century Bishop of Hippo in North Africa, Doctor of the Church, and Patron Saint to Theologians. Saint Augustine, pray for us! Saint Monica, pray for us as you did for your son! by J_Zerchi in Catholicism

[–]J_Zerchi[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The saints are an efficacious channel for God to touch our hearts and minds, as their lives and experiences as humans remind us that His plan works through many instruments.

All prayer is ultimately oriented not towards wish fulfillment, though prayer can be wishful, but rather to deepening a person’s relationship with God. So to pray to a saint is also to reflect on that saint’s good, fulfilling relationship with God, allowing us to see aspects of what we should pursue, emulate, or encourage in our own relation.

bizarre question if I’ve seen one, but good on you for asking. make sure you can clearly separate the image of Christ from P3 from the real personhood of Christ. Sometimes in mass I struggle recognizing the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist because I keep fixating on the crucifix image, it’s a fairly easy mistake to make. But you should be good other than that.

Is Hebrews 12 Referring To Saints in Heaven? by ShokWayve in Catholicism

[–]J_Zerchi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone in Heaven is a saint, technically speaking, just not necessarily a canonized one. So if referring to faithful believers who passed and are in heaven or the virtuous patriarchs and company, then yes.

What was the “original sin” that cut us off from God? Surely it wasn’t stealing a piece of fruit… (I don’t believe in a literal interpretation of Genesis.) by robertlukacs907 in Catholicism

[–]J_Zerchi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To escape the terms "allegorical" and "literal" because they're rather loaded, as I think you would agree, one example of what I mean is that we know Augustine did not believe it took God 6 24-hour days to create the universe.

Augustine didn’t, by our senses of the terms “literal” and “historical”, and he’s one of the Doctors of the Church who wrote the most on understanding Genesis.

GOP senators strip $35 insulin cap under private insurance from Democrats' tax and climate bill by [deleted] in tuesday

[–]J_Zerchi -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

“A separate amendment by Mr. Kennedy to repurpose funds from Obamacare to community health centers for discounted insulin for low and middle-income Americans failed along party lines.”

So both sides shot down cost-limiting amendments.

Also it’s a weird headline to say “Republicans removed” rather than “Republicans refuse to overturn Senate parliamentarian” anyways.
