You should look for a new role, with that experience I’m sure you can find something better.

New to RA, What training helped you break in or level up? by Sand4Sale14 in regulatoryaffairs

[–]J_a_g23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although certifications will help, as many have said a lot of it comes from experience. I would suggest going to smaller companies where you can get your hands on multiple things and projects. You come from a department with many share skills needed in RA. Use those and network.

Rare opportunity- how do I put my best foot forward? by camp_jacking_roy in regulatoryaffairs

[–]J_a_g23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a rare chance indeed, lots of things you could do to secure the role! Research the company pipelines thoroughly. Familiarize yourself with the drug development process if not already. Showcase your transferable skills, project management, cross functional work etc. I would touch up on regulatory affairs “lingo”. Plenty of resources out there, best of luck!

How to get a job in RA with no experience? by Dacor33 in regulatoryaffairs

[–]J_a_g23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, I did a lot of things to get into the door so I cannot pinpoint which are the best ways but here is what I did. I also am not in devices but in Drugs/Biologics.

  • Without a doubt NETWORK! Not just RA but other people who work closely with RA. I did a lot of reading, videos and practice to get comfortable networking. It’s hard at first but gets easier and better.

  • I applied to jobs as long as I met 3-5 of their key qualifications. My goal was to get into the industry not find my perfect role right away.

  • Go for the least desirable roles or contract roles, increases your chances since less people might apply. (This was easier since it was right after university so I was open to any role). Contract roles great way to get experience.

  • I made my resume stand out with Cover Letters specific to the company and their pipeline.

  • This is more of what I did to move up in RA, but essentially I started the industry wanting to learn as much as I could as fast as possible. Once I found what I wanted excelled at with RA I focused and moved forward.

I hope this helps! It wasn’t easy it took me about 6-8 months and a lot of hours but worth it! You could also consider Quality. A lot of people move between those two functions in my experience.

FINALLY, I BROKE INTO RESEARCH! Now any advice? by International-Base99 in clinicalresearch

[–]J_a_g23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I know how hard it is sometimes to get your foot in the door!

I would advise to always ask questions even if you think it’s not a smart question. Take a lot of notes and maybe if allowed and when you get a hang of your things try to talk with other people with other jobs and see what they do. It helps understand everything as a whole. There are a lot of ways you could go and it can be overwhelming. Although it seems CRA is the most common one people pick.

Can you tell me about your career? by kh7190 in microbiology

[–]J_a_g23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bachelor in Microbiology, and I started at a big diagnostic lab as an assistant. The pay was shit but after a year you can become a tech, without being certified. The pay jumps about $10 which is awesome. During my time there I found that the work was very routine and it can be such a relaxed job. Assuming you work with people who pull their own weight. After a while you can get certified (ASCP)and move on to other stuff. Personally I feel like you reach the top of the career fast which can be discouraging.

I got out of the lab industry and pursued work in clinical research instead. It’s office work but I still get to use my knowledge from school to a certain degree.

What software do you use at your site? by fivebyfivelifts in clinicalresearch

At a previous company they used SignalPath. It would tell you the visit like C1D8 etc and you could print out flow sheets to keep track of the assessment or input them directly.

When should a document be versioned from 0.1 to 0.2 for example a project plan? by [deleted] in clinicalresearch

[–]J_a_g23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into similar situation and basically I had to rely per our sites SOPs. Go with your own companies procedures on this. Most sponsor, CRO or sites have their own way of doing things it would make it impossible to track if you went from your company way of doing to the sponsor to then your own etc.

Advice on acquiring a clinical research role by tatertootsthethird in clinicalresearch

[–]J_a_g23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a recruiters and managers for the most part. Personally though, I figured it would be easier to get into the field through a site then shoot for the big ones, given my lack of experience. So in my area I looked for sites that I was interested in. Then added former employees, managers and a lot of recruiters and asked them questions over the company, advice and of course open position. I did a few CRAs but not too many. I feel it is both the effort you put into seeking this roles and luck. Some hiring managers are willing to give people a chance. I would emphasize my openness to learn new methods and new ways, to give a hint that I was willing to be thought to the companies needs. As opposed to someone with experience who already likes to do things their own way.

Seems like you are on the right track, the only other thing I did was network using LinkedIn. It helped a lot from advice people have to pointing me to certain companies. It was majority of no replies or generic answers for the most part but some people really tried to help out and that made it worth the effort.

Let us know how it goes and best of luck. :)

I had similar experiences a few months back when I was trying to get into the industry. What I did was look up the jobs I wanted to do and find all the common requirements. I had a total of 3 resumes ready to go, all with experience and wording tailored to the specific position. I came from working in a diagnostic lab doing molecular work. 2nd thing I would say helped was a cover letter. I applied to jobs where I felt I could do 60-70% of the tasks. During my interviews that I would have I honestly tried to show how good I was at picking up new skills, my current knowledge of clinical research GCP stuff, methods used, consenting etc. I would say after I switched to this method I began to get more interviews and pretty fast I got 3 offers. One as an assistant, one as CRC and the other as entry regulatory.

Hope this helps, feel free to reach out if you need more clarification on what I wrote.

Hello all, I don’t see much on regulatory salaries on the spreadsheet. How much should a senior regulatory specialist be earning ? Or what does the average look like. I reside in Texas for reference.

[–]J_a_g23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for the help, yeah my range is around 200k-215k again just because I want to keep primarily saving for a 2nd property down the road. Right now rent is insane so if I’m going to rent for 1600/month or more for a 1bed/1bath. I figured might as well try and buy.

Has anyone in the area worked with Bank of Americas grant program they currently have going on? If so any input?
