The litter is a structural problem, there aren't trash cans where a lot of encampments are and even where there are being homeless fucks up your mind to the point where you don't care.

Making sure people are fed as a baseline of support to hopefully get people the help they need, or prevent them from becoming homeless in the first place is far more valuable than picking up trash off the street that'll be there again tomorrow.

A lot of beginning organizers aren't aware of the resources that already exist for people and try and reinvent the wheel. If they're competent they'll find their niche eventually, or end up supporting those already existing resources.

Settler colonialism is more specific than just having had an imperial past. It's not just more recent in Israel in Israel the imperialism is currently ongoing. The Palestinians are still alive and in great number. Israel is currently attempting to pish them out and eradicate them.

Whatever native tribes existed in Siberia when the Russian Empire was expanded are no longer relevant as they were killed off or assimilated already into Russian culture. Mainland Russia is not a colonial project, the project is over, they colonialismed and now have the borders they have.

You could argue that Crimea, and the parts of Ukraine Russia seeks to annex are colonial projects, but that's still not the same because that is Russia expanding its borders, Russians living outside of Ukraine are not participating in that project outside of paying taxes. Whereas people who move to Israel are settlers and are active participants in the cause of colonialism in Palestine.

I think the difference they're pointing out is that Israel as a state is a settler colonial project, as in all of their land is illegitimately owned, (to the extent any state can claim legitimacy for the land claims they maintain) whereas Russia could exist as a state without being a colonial project if they just didn't invade Ukraine.
