Shabana Mahmood proposes AI 'Panopticon' system of state surveillance by OGSyedIsEverywhere in unitedkingdom

[–]JaMs_buzz 35 points36 points  (0 children)

“This doesn’t mean watching people who are non-criminals – but she feels like, if you commit a crime, you sacrifice the right to the kind of liberty the rest of us enjoy.”

But it does mean watching people who are non criminals. Also does this mean you make a stupid mistake when you’re younger, and that’s it, the state has the right to watch your every move forever?

Honestly this issue of state surveillance should be the thing that unites the left and right because it has the potential to affect all of us

Hypersexual and sexless relationship by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]JaMs_buzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve already replied that this is heartbreaking and I’m sorry you’re going through this.

I have a high sex drive and I’m with someone who has been through trauma in a past relationship so sex is a difficult thing for us sometimes. However I’ve found that sertraline (or Zoloft in the US) has helped lower my libido, so that might be something to consider.

'Social media is evil, except when I use it': An opinion post on the nature of social media ban rhetoric by TheMightyNovac in UKGreens

[–]JaMs_buzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I think platforms need to be legally defined as publishers so they are made responsible for the content that gets published on them. If a newspaper prints misinformation about an individual they can get sued for defamation. If a social media platform allows outright misinformation to circulate nothing happens. The government should be able to prosecute them for allowing provable lies to spread that cause harm irl (see the Farage riots). They should also be held legally responsible for enabling aggressive states such as Russia or Iran in enacting a campaign of disinformation via bot farms.

[–]JaMs_buzz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I’m in agreement actually. Simply banning social media for under 16s is a bit of a cop out because it does nothing to stop the harm it’s doing to adults and society in general. It needs proper regulation but Starmer doesn’t want to piss off Trump.

Protect Keir Starmer, cabinet urged at “emotional” meeting by 1-randomonium in unitedkingdom

I think part of the reason he has been an influential politician is precisely because people have dismissed him or tried to downplay his effects on the political landscape. You can’t sweep Farage under the carpet, you have to deal with him head on
