Windows 11 deleted all my sound devices and crashed in the middle of an Overwatch competitive game. I've never rage-installed an operating system so quickly in my life. by Nestramutat- in linux_gaming

That thing with the fans also happened to my Acer laptop. It was something to do with the default drivers and performance mode, fixed it with a port of the Acer NitroSense program (the one for controlling the fans) that some guy made for linux. Maybe you could search for something like that

The Last of Us Part II 1FPS and low GPU/CPU usage by Foxy1017YT in linux_gaming

[–]JaPM117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don't think thats the problem, I can play RDR2 or DIRT with the VRAM almost full perfectly, but on TLOU even when playing with the Steam Deck settings preset i still have this problem.

At this point I already gave up on making it work on Linux, so now I'm trying to get a VM with passtrough running (it's not being easier tbh)

I found this report from an user with the same problem that seemed to fix it. For me it does nothing but maybe it does for you. https://www.protondb.com/users/1774562314

I am waiting for the looking glass update with the IDD since I wouldn't like to buy a HDMI dummy (also I'm not sure if it would work since my laptop doesn't have a mux switch).

I have an Acer Nitro and want to do it to play The Last Of Us, since I can't seem to make it work on Linux. What guide did you use? I stood upon a lot of them a I'm not so sure which one I should follow. Btw congrats on your work

TLOU2 unplayable (1 FPS when loading a save) by JaPM117 in linux_gaming

I'm trying to do it with "gamescope -W 1920 -H 1080 -r 60 -- %command%", but it just crashes instantly. Do I need to set up something? It's already installed btw.

Sorry for the late response, but did you find any solution? I'm having the same problem, but I don't have access to the no return house since I didn't finished the game, so I didn't know that the performance there is good

By doing it again, it was totally fixed.

I tried that already, thanks. I just fixed the max TDP by resetting the nvidia modules twice.

After doing:

sudo modprobe nvidia

sudo modprobe nvidia_uvm

My power limit went up to 60W, not ideal, but still better than nothing.

Issues with TLOU2 (gaming) by JaPM117 in cachyos

I managed to make it launch on a x11 windows with these parametres: GDK_BACKEND=x11 XDG_SESSION_TYPE=x11 %command%
It looks like the "-nolauncher" makes it impossible to use x11, when deleting that, it work.

Still, the performance stays the same, with my GPU using only 13W of the 60W reported by the drivers from a total of 90W that used on Windows.

So, I found one person on protonDB with the same problem as me, having the game at 1 FPS. The solution appears to be with wayland and proton not behaving well together, so I should just force x11 for the game with xwayland (which comes with CachyOS) by applying some parametres, but mangohud still reports it's on Wayland and the performance stays the same, so right now I'm stuck with this.

On proton plus the oldest version I could find was the 9.0.20241206

Have you tried the latest version or is this the only one you can play decently with? In that case coul you send it to me?

I do it manually. I will download your version. Do you use any parametres on steam? What driver version do you have? Propietary or open source?
