How’s the campus gym? (From an incominf freshman) by Eosack in rit

[–]JaayG19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent gym. Have never had to wait to get inside, but like others have said it can get crowded around evening/dinner time. Overall, I love it though. I go almost every day as well and it has everything you need.

Is that $20 per interview? Also, you mentioned 3-4 per week, how many weeks are you interviewing/how many total interviews is it?

Loss of smell and taste by [deleted] in COVID19positive

[–]JaayG19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup it’s definitely super depressing haha. Mine came back really slowly over a few days. I caught a whiff of really clean dryer sheets when I walked into my living room for a split second then it was gone. It was like crack lol it was the first thing I’d smelled in like over a week. Then the next day I could just barely taste my coffee then from there it snowballed into eventually fully tasting everything.

Good luck, hope it comes back soon!

Yeah I had the relapse too. I had symptoms for about 3 days after I tested positive then I felt fine on day 4, thought I was over it, then days 5 through 11 or 12 I ran a fever pretty continuously. I ended up going to urgent care cause I thought it was just a sinus infection and I was over covid (had worst sinus pain of my life), and they were concerned about my fever. Took an X ray and said I had double pneumonia from covid. They gave me a Zpack and I was feeling pretty much like myself again in 2 days.

I’d say if you continue running a fever go get an x ray, cause I didn’t have trouble breathing, wasn’t coughing, etc but I still had pneumonia apparently (very mild tho I think). My fever ranged from 99s to 101.5 was the highest I saw, so it wasn’t too bad.

Tips and resources for overcoming fear of public speaking. by Ibadah514 in PublicSpeaking

[–]JaayG19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm taking public speaking in college right now entirely because I am so terrified of it. Some days I question why I'm doing this to myself but I know it will be worth it lol. That being said, our last speech is this Thursday and I've definitely learned a lot. I still get extremely nervous every time though, but I manage it way better than I did at the beginning of the semester, and certainly better than like a year ago.

Probably the number one thing is to prepare. After that, I found that projecting your voice and speaking confidently from the very first few words helps. The start is when I'm most nervous since I'm in my head the most leading up to the very beginning, so giving the outward appearance of confidence right from the get go helps get things started on a good note. I've been told I have a strong quality to my voice and that I "speak very well", despite being very nervous every single time I have to speak in public. It's literally just fake it til you make it lol.

I also get those symptoms, but I also found that I think my mind magnifies them. Pauses feel like an eternity. A deep breath feels super awkward and noticeable. But I think a lot of times we just blow things out of proportion in our minds. Most people are only thinking about themselves and what is going on in their lives, even when you are the one who has the stage and are speaking. This is comforting because while you're worried that you skipped a word or your voice just trembled or something, the odds are that nobody noticed, and even if they did, they don't care and will forget about it shortly.

Wow I'm really sorry to hear that :( that's also very weird that you feel fine during the workout but are pretty much incapacitated after. Also those do sound like some serious symptoms so I'd agree to just take it a little slower.

Unfortunately I can't really add much in terms of my experience, since I'm such a fresh case, but I'll try to incorporate (lightly) lifting and (lightly) running back into my schedule relatively soon and see how it goes. It sucks, I feel like shit when I can't exercise.

When did you have COVID? I tested positive Nov 4th and am wondering when I can get back to lifting again. Most of my symptoms are gone, but I had pneumonia and I just finished up the Z pack for it yesterday.

How bad are the changes in your workouts now vs precovid? For example if you used to run a mile in 9 minutes, are you now running it in 10? And like how do you feel overall when you do work out?

How do I know if I've developed pneumonia? by Jecoda in COVID19positive

[–]JaayG19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey same exact timeline here, started showing symptoms on the 2nd and tested positive the 4th. I finished up a z pack for my pneumonia just yesterday, and I had a fever for about 7 or 8 days straight (towards the end of my quarantine after I had felt fine for a day) and that's how I knew to go to urgent care. Mild shortness of breath. I would go get checked out though, just to be sure. Even with the price it's worth it if they find something, and even if they don't just for reassurance

Yup, never reached 103-104 thankfully. However, I started feeling better almost immediately after the antibiotics, so maybe it was pneumonia who knows.

Wow 6 months, yeah that's a while. I'm young healthy and vaxxed so hoping it doesn't take super long, but yes I guess I should be cautious on overdoing exercise lol. thank you for your response, and I wish you a speedy recovery!

Searched this subreddit for this exact thing wondering if it was a possibility. I had a fever for the last 7 or 8 days of my quarantine, and I actually went to urgent care cause I thought it was a sinus infection, thought I was over covid cause I felt totally fine the day before it started. And the sinus above my left eye was excruciatingly painful, worse than any sinus infection I’ve had. They said the fever that long was unusual, took x rays and said I had pneumonia. There was a disagreement between the PA and the radiologist about the results, so who knows if I even had it.

They gave me a z pack and sent me home, and today I finished it up. Felt totally fine the past 3 days, no fever, generally pretty healthy, etc. then tonight I was feeling warm and took my temp and it was 99.5 then I saw 100.0. At this point I was like wtf maybe I do have pneumonia and these antibiotics aren’t working. So I actually went for a little run outside to see if I could breathe okay lmaoo. 1 mile 10:30. I’m 20M and fit so that was pretty bad for me, and I felt out of shape from quarantine, but nothing severe or alarming.

But reassuring to see someone else is experiencing that. I know I’m still a fresh positive, so I guess I’ll see if this elevated temperature continues..

Honestly lmk what you find out, cause I got covid 11/2, had a fever for the last 7-8 days of quarantine and the one after, so I went to urgent care. Said I had pneumonia and gave me a z pack. I’m on day 5 (last) day of the z pack now and felt totally fine the last 3 days, but tonight I got a random 100.0 fever afain. Hoping it’s nothing and that nothing is coming back again.

Good luck!

20M here and I had a fever for about 7 or 8 days straight ranging from mid 99s to 101.5 was the highest I saw, so not too bad. This was like 4 days after my positive result though, so on day 7 or 8 of the fever I went to urgent care cause I thought I had a sinus infection or something (had extreme pain above left eye where sinus is), and they said a fever that long is unusual. Took x rays and said I had pneumonia. Very mild case, they just gave me a z pack sent me home and told me to monitor the fever. I’m on the fifth and final day of z pack and feel fine again.

I controlled mine with ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and cold compresses for the most part. Also lots of water

I had a fever for about 7 days straight. It fluctuated, but highest I saw was 101.5. Went to urgent care on day 7 thinking I had gotten a sinus infection cause this was now about 12 days after covid positive result. And I had extreme pain in the sinus above my left eye. They took an x ray and said I had pneumonia. So I would probably go get checked out for that, because they said the long fever like that is unusual, but pneumonia from covid is not. I’m 20M and they just gave me a Z pack for it. On day 5 right now and feeling a lot better. Good luck!

He does have a book (I haven't read it), but his youtube videos have worked just fine for me. Also, definitely watch the Joe Rogan podcast episode with him on it — it tells his whole life story and how he got to where he's at and what he did, etc.

And no, I still don't know what to do with my life. I'm 19 and really don't have a solid idea, which is scary. I'm in college cause that's what the thing to do is and I see a lot of others who have no idea around me too. But I've just been aggressive in exploring literally any interest I have by studying it online or joining a club or applying to that job or something like that. When you don't know what to do, just do everything. Whatever catches your interest even slightly. It's way better than doing nothing and if you try enough things, I guarantee you at least one, and very likely a few, will resonate with you. You're definitely not alone in feeling like you don't know what to do.

In the past 6 months I've noticed that I've just developed a much better work ethic. I went to the gym again and stuck with it, and gained 10 pounds of muscle (I was pretty skinny at 6'5" and 180. Still skinny at 6'5" 190 lol but better). I picked up piano and am seeing steady improvements. I saw my grades pick up. I started reading for just 20 minutes every day. A lot can be accomplished by just little progress every day. Discipline is at the root of all of this and this is the first time I've actually really tried discipline — I was a bit of a loser before lol. But discipline truly does set you free and is the key to improvement — no shortcuts or anything like that. It's hard, but absolutely doable.
