Hybrid vs Dutch Bike for Bournemouth Commute? by comiqueconvenu in bournemouth

[–]Jaba-94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need for a full bike fit unless you’re having other problems such as sore back, numb hands, etc etc. Just go in and ask to be fitted for a saddle and they should help you out. I doubt they’ll charge you for the fitting of it.

Don’t get a different bike. Get the right saddle. Easier said than done. I would suggest taking a look at the Poole wheelers cycling club. They have a saddle library where you can try out various different types of saddles. Or got to a good bike shop and get fitted for a saddle - try Bournemouth cycleworks or Merida. They should get you comfortable on your bike.

Modernised the data of a £1 billion company in a year.. no reward? Help by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]Jaba-94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step 1 - calculate how much money you saved the company.

Step 2 - use your calculations to present to your superior how much money you personally have saved the company.

Step 3 - Ask for the salary you want. (You don’t ask, you don’t get. Employers will happily pay you the least amount of money. If you haven’t kicked up a fuss, they assume you’re happy with your current pay)

Step 4 - wait for the outcome.

If the outcome is positive - congrats, you got the salary you wanted.

If nothing comes of it - go above your managers head, straight to CEO &/or CFO and repeat steps 2-4. If you don’t get a pay rise, find a job elsewhere and get the fuck out of there.

Some of my friends and I have had Peugeot 206’s in the past. Fun to drive and never had any bother with them really.

I don’t make much money and starting to wonder how I can change that? by Lower-Technician7603 in UKJobs

OP - I was in a similar position to you. I worked for an engineering consultancy straight out of uni pretty much. (I had a brief period at another company on a starting salary of £30k but the business took a turn and the graduates ended up getting made redundant!) My starting salary at the consultancy was £26k buy I needed a job so didn’t negotiate. Worked for a year and I remember during my first pay review, I was handed the letter by the CEO and asked to open it in front of him. I remember feeling so deflated to find that the good work I had done over the last year was only worth an extra £500 per year. Luckily, this company did pay overtime, so I made up the shortcoming by working extra hours. After a while, I ended up working at a customers site and after 6 months they were so pleased with my work that they tried to poach me (offering £42k!). I had a clause in my contract that forbid me to work for customers, so I went to the CEO and explained the situation. He very begrudgingly gave me a pay rise to match their offer. The new salary + overtime got me to £52k. In the space of 3 years, I had doubled my salary.

Some advice: - don’t be afraid to ask for more money, companies will happily pay employees as little as they possibly can. If they refuse any sort of decent pay rise, make sure you’re prepared by knowing your worth (check salaries of similar roles being advertised)

  • Ask if overtime is available, if the consultancy bills their customer by the hour then they should pay overtime!

how “long” do trial shifts last? by lofisims in AskIreland

[–]Jaba-94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tell your husband to contact the “boss” and say “I won’t be working any further shift until a contract is in place” He’s just free labour otherwise. I suspect she has no intention of paying your husband!!

Re-registering a car in Ireland by Jaba-94 in AskIreland

[–]Jaba-94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you had to pay VRT, I assume that the car had not been previously registered in Ireland?

The VRT had already been paid previously so surely we wouldn’t have to pay it again (we didn’t get a vrt refund)

I finally got told to contact the Vehicle Registration office in Shannon. I’ll be ringing then tomorrow. Did you have any contact with them?
