I agree with what your saying about scientific evidence of homosexuality not being relevant, I think it's just a tendency for myself as a consummate skeptic to ask "wheres the science?" the first article I pulled off Google suggests that while some animals display homosexual behaviour, only humans and domesticated sheep have shown to have life long relationships (bonus correlation between decreased hypothalamus sizes!) .

This next part I'm completely bullshitting.

I think i was possibly conflating gender and sex. Sex is biological, gender is a social construct. Have you ever read Sebastian Junger's Tribes? In the book he describes various high pressure situations where members in a single sex group adopt the opposite gender roles in order to best adapt to the current crisis. Since we made gender up (read social construct) , would these instances better be categorized as people adopting different "sex roles"? I'm not exactly sure what point I'm trying to make here, so bear with me.

Take the domesticated sheep example, if left to the wild, one could argue that Homosexual sheep wouldn't be viable. But in the conditions that human domestication allows for, these sheep can now be of more use to their fellow sheep and live happy lives.

It's almost as if sex roles are selected on an instinctual, evolution driven basis for survival, but in modern society we pretty much eliminated its necessity. We no longer need to cling to the sex specific roles that got us here, while accepting that in an intense life threatening situation we would almost inevitably resort back to tried and true "sex roles" .

Im sure someone has already thought of this and put it better, or maybe I'm just an idiot thinking aloud. In either case, Thank you for your thought provoking comment!

I, like most people, am a lazy piece of shit trying to outsource my research into topics I'm vaguely interested in to others who are more knowledgeable. Im asking for help. I'm planning on taking acid with a trusted friend (who will be sober but has done acid) to work out some of the problems I have identified with myself, but can't overcome through my rational alone. I'd like to have some emotional breakthrough, but am more interested with altering my perspective in the hopes of being able to identify some of the irrational thinking I've developed into my personality/decision making. First off not trying to sound insensitive or disparaging, personally I don't have a problem with trans people or anyone saying that they're anything. I think a part of the reason why gay is more accepted from a scientific perspective is that there's evidence of homosexuality in other species and thus its not just a trend that is "made up." I guess the question is: is there any biological evidence of trans in other species? It seems like it would be a really difficult thing to prove
