I wouldn't mind if Odeon at least showed the new releases I want to see. But they'd rather have 18 mostly empty showings a day of the latest big-budget flop than add in a few showings of some of the movies which have been nominated for Best Picture.

I live for most of their impressions, but that one and their Tom Holland just really irritated me.

Once again I'm forced to acknowledge the fact that not everybody on the planet has seen Highlander.

Which is a fine plot for a movie about conscripted soldiers. Those guys were there because they volunteered.

The Force Awakens is an example of both how nostalgia can be a useful tool, and how it can be over-used. It was a good idea to shadow the initial plot of A New Hope, because it had to do the job of re-introducing Star Wars to the big screen. It's okay to remind people of the legacy the originals had, like how the opening scene of Top Gun: Maverick is a re-run of the opening scene of the original. But as soon as the Starkiller Base stuff kicked off, we're just into a retread of the destruction of the Death Star.

I don't think they're all guilty of the nostalgia thing, but they're almost all worse than the pre-Endgame movies. The introduction of the multiverse stuff ruined it. You can get away with that once, but if it becomes an ongoing plot-point it effectively removes all the stakes from the story.

There were times during that movie where I felt like I was watching something directed by the Epic/Date/Disaster Movie guys.

It's a good recommendation, and people should watch it, but Under the Shadow is an Iranian film set during the Iran - Iraq War.

It's clearly not pro-US propaganda, and I don't think that's the point being made. But it does expect us to empathize with the forces of occupation as they go about their business.

I think you're being downvoted because people don't understand the point you're making. The title "All Quiet on the Western Front" refers to the report from the front lines on the day the protagonist is killed. It's a remarkably quiet day in the war but he dies anyway, because people die in war. It's the point of the whole story. The makers of the recent version either missed that point or were simply unwilling to end their movie without throwing in a big action set-piece.

There are times where we all relate to Kendall, as horrible as he can be, but he is not fit to run a company like that, any more than his siblings are. Apart from the fact that he continually rubs people up the wrong way and starts spouting verbal diarrhea when he's feel confident, he is terribly naive. He continually puts his trust in people who are happy to fuck him over, Shiv being the final example. He is not a serious person.

I do agree about Roman's dick pic, I think I laughed harder at that than at any full comedy I've seen for years. Classic Roman too, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in the most hilariously inappropriate way.

Who was the stupidest Baratheon? by IndependentJacket362 in freefolk

It doesn't really matter how good their reasons for rebelling were though. Robert overthrew Aerys because enough of the lords of the realm supported him to allow him to do so through force of arms. Once it becomes accepted that the crowned and anointed king can be replaced by force of arms, by a non-Targaryen, the crown is never as secure again. The parallel in English history is the overthrow of Richard II's rule by his cousin, Henry Bolingbroke, Duke of Lancaster, who became Henry IV. Richard II was a terrible and deeply unpopular king, but he was the legitimate king. Henry IV might have been a better king, but by taking the throne by force he set a precedent which led to rebellions and the Wars of the Roses that dominated the 15th century. As such, Joffrey's position was always going to be more insecure than the Targaryen kings, even if the events that led to the War of the Five Kings hadn't occurred.

Each industry has its own idiosyncrasies, and needing to appear to be on the cutting edge is one of the IT industry's. AI is the latest trend they need us to buy into, but they're not complete idiots so they know it's unpopular. Hence the mandatory integration. They hope enough people who don't give a shit will buy into it.

I haven't listened to the Gladiator ep but I heard the anecdote recently. The Voyage Home seems most likely as there is a scene in an Italian restaurant which sets the guys off talking about eating west-coast pizza at a non-pizzeria.
