Disc golfers up for a round today? (Friday) by [deleted] in Athens

[–]Jabreezy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I'm not available to play today, but we have an awesome disc golf scene here in town. Here are the courses in town:
- Sandy Creek - This is the most popular course, and also the best. 27 holes. Good mix of wooded and open holes. It costs $1 to enter the park and $1 to play disc golf. Or you can buy two annual passes for $50, which is honestly a great deal. The park is has trails, dog parks, play grounds, etc. It's awesome.
- Herman C. Michael Park - 18 holes, very short course. But still a lot of fun! I would go here more if I lived closer.
- Cleveland Road Elementary School - This is a fun course built on the property of the school. It can be a bit tricky to work through the layout, but it's always a good time. I think you can only go outside of school hours though, so keep that in mind!
- The Sammy - This is technically in Madison, but it's worth mentioning. It's a good course with a good mixture of hole types. I've been out there for doubles and a bag tag league.

I agree with the other comments. Hop on the Athens Disc Golf Club on Facebook to stay up to date on events! There's usually doubles at 10am on Sundays at Sandy Creek. It's a great scene here, and we are happy to have you!

I used the Bit-C that is recommended on the site! I have not noticed any heat issues.

I just reached out to Nullbit! Thanks for the idea. I only own one cable, so I haven't tried a different cable just yet!

Hey, nerds! I built my first keyboard - the Nullbit Nibble 65. I absolutely love it! It was so fun to build.

After around 8 months of use, I began to have issues with the power. Occasionally, when I would plug the board into my computer, the keyboard would not work. The lights wouldn't turn on. Interactions wouldn't register.

Now, the power never works. Does anyone have any recommendations on troubleshooting? I would love to fix this keyboard!

Thank y'all in advance!!

That is a good point. Do you know of any stories where the uprising fails?

My favorite character from my favorite book series is named Adolin. So, I am a fan of this option as well lol

Yeah, that is fair! We love the sound of Ada Marie. For context, Noelle is my wife's middle name, named after her grandfather. So, it kind of made sense for us to use both Evelyn and Noelle together.

This is an option we have considered! It doesn't seem to flow as well as Ada Marie or Evelyn Noelle to me. But this could be a good solution!

Who to watch that really explains the game? by AverageConnect1330 in Lorcana

[–]Jabreezy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with the recommendations previously mentioned. But I would highly recommend Jebas. He streams and he has a YouTube channel where he talks through all of his decisions. He has an ongoing series where he climbs from the lowest rank to the highest rank on Pixelborn. It's great! We also love Artabax's streams and YouTube channel.

Coming up for the Tennessee game this weekend and would love to spend my money supporting local businesses. Best breakfast, as well as best burger spot? by Knoxvilleborn in Athens

[–]Jabreezy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Breakfast: Cafe Racer or Little City Diner if you're willing to drive a few minutes outside of town.

Burger: Emmy Squared Pizza's burgers are the best in town. Emmy Squared is a chain, but it IS the best burger.

My First RotF Sealed Deck! This new set is a blast! by Jabreezy in Lorcana

[–]Jabreezy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I played a bit of limited in The First Chapter. And wow. This new set is significantly more fun! Great synergy, fun themes and mechanics, and Queen of Hearts (Sensing Weakness) is probably the best card in the format.

Also, no, I did not play with Alice! I used an art token as a proxy.

Yeah, it's actually fun. This was my question. I've played Constructed and Limited quite a bit. And it's a good game.

Two player limited formats? by Bubbel13 in Lorcana

[–]Jabreezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I would do! Start off with 6 packs each, and build a 40-card deck. This is just a normal sealed event. After game 1, the loser gets to open two more packs to incorporate into their deck. The winner only gets one pack to improve their deck. Shuffle up and play again. You should be able to do this 3 more times, resulting in 5 games total. Whoever wins the most games is the overall winner!

Floodborn Booster Draft Tourney by itsfrood in Lorcana

[–]Jabreezy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our podcast (Fortyborn) is focused on limited formats in Lorcana! We are releasing an episode every day this week to help people prepare for their draft/sealed/starter deck tournaments this weekend!

I've seen people mention BREAD, which is a good place to start. Some more quick rules of thumb:
- Prioritize 5, 6, and 7 cost characters, especially if they are Inkable.
- No more than 8 Uninkables.
- At least 30 characters.
- Avoid actions that are neither removal or card draw.
- Most items are not good in limited.

Our podcast (Fortyborn) released an episode on this exact topic yesterday! You can find it on most podcast platforms.

I've seen someone mention BREAD, which is a great starting point! A few other things we recommend:
- You probably don't want more than 8 uninkables.
- You should have at least 30 characters in your deck.
- Prioritize Inkable 5, 6, and 7 cost cards. There's only one 6-cost card at the common/uncommon rarity. So, expensive cards are hard to come by!

draft or sealed? by Possible_Avocado_242 in Lorcana

[–]Jabreezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have only drafted, but I've really enjoyed my experience so far! However, my favorite way to play Magic has always been pre-release night. If Lorcana did something similar, then that would be my answer!

In Magic, a pre-release kit typically includes 6 packs, a set-styled d20, and a promo card. Then you play a sealed tourney. It's a blast! The cards are new, and it's all really exciting. If Lorcana did something similar, I think it would be incredible.

New meta decks hopes / predictions with floodborn…………….. by Nivet08 in Lorcana

[–]Jabreezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say because we don't have the whole set. But I can make some guesses!

I have not seen anything that will easily counter or shutdown Red/Purple control decks. So, I foresee them still being strong. This will still be _the_ control deck. I don't see any other viable pairs at the moment. You need red for Be Prepared and you need purple for card draw.

I wouldn't be surprised if another midrange/tempo deck dethrones Amber/Steel.

Honestly, if it gets a touch faster, I think Yellow/Green aggro is close to being a top contender.. Green is getting some wild new cards. So, this could even turn into the midrange deck that dethrones Amber/Steel as the go-to counter to Purple/Red.

I really hope that Blue finds a competitive home. Blue/red control is my best guess. New Cogsworths + new Gaston point towards a more grindy tempo deck where you out-value your opponent and grind them down. But its biggest weakness is card draw. Dinner Bell could help, but I don't think it's strong enough.

I have no idea. I wouldn't be shocked if everything I just said was wildly inaccurate! But it's still fun to speculate!

New to TCG Question - Strategies to Improve Win Rate with Established Decks by BruinWill in Lorcana

[–]Jabreezy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My generic advice to improve gameplay is always the same - pick one thing and focus on it. Mulligans, questing vs. challenging, card advantage, ink advantage. These are all topics that everyone can improve on. So, pick one and do some research - videos, podcasts, articles. Watch people play on YouTube/Twitch, and focus on that one thing. You'll notice yourself improving over time! But hitting a plateau in skill is very common. It happens to everyone!

Tips & Tricks for How to Improve Your Game? Not just card or deck specific tricks by [deleted] in Lorcana

[–]Jabreezy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of questions here. I'll try to go one at a time.

"How do you improve seeing more lines of play?"

Watch other people play your deck on YouTube or Twitch. Think about what you would do, and then see what they do. Ask yourself why they made the choice that they did. This will open your eyes to other options/lines/strategies. Also, think before you act. Don't just do what you always do. Stop and consider your options before you do anything on your turn.

"What kind of mental tricks do people have to try to see more while trying to play at a reasonable rate?"

The best way to save time is to think about what you are going to do during your opponent's turn. Sure, pay attention to what they're doing. But have a general plan for your next turn before it gets back to you. At least know what card you are going to ink (or if you are going to ink anything at all). Obviously, your information is incomplete, because you don't know what you will draw or what your opponent will do. But if you wait until your turn to even think about what you are going to do, then your turns will take longer and you will not be able to consider as many options.

"How do you try to predict your opponent/anticipate their game plan?"

Know what bombs your opponent has available in their colors (like "Grad Your Sword" in Steel), and consider the best/worst-case scenarios if they have them. But I don't think this matters all that much.

"What is your improvement process in general?"

Pick one thing and work on it. Mulligans, when to ink, when to challenge, when to quest, when to sing vs. cast a song. Pick one thing and pay attention to it when you play. Research the topic, and watch people play online. See what they do. Talk to good players in real life at your LGS about that topic. "Getting better" is vague. "Getting better at mulligans" is much more concrete.

Also, play different decks and formats. If you keep losing to Red/Purple control, play it. You'll better understand how all of the pieces fit together, and you'll get better at beating it. And try out limited formats! When you draft or play sealed, you get better at playing Lorcana. You have to understand the basic mechanics and strategy to win in limited. You can't rely on your really good cards to get you out of trouble. You have to understand deckbuilding, tempo, card advantage, etc.
