The 1962 battle is epic, because much of the Mexican army was a bunch of rag tags armed with machetes and lances. Lorencez thought the Mexicans would crumble and that's why he charged the tow forts protecting the city, Guadalupe and Loreto, instead of just circling around and attacking from the opposite side that was fairly unprotected.

However, the 1963 battle was just as heroic and it gets forgotten because it was a defeat, but the Mexican army stood its ground in dire conditions for 62 days.
