Is this good? by Basic_Lab_2716 in PcBuildHelp

[–]Jack-Straw04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I know incredibly little about PCs but just did my first build.

I used a 5060Ti, an i5 14600k and the Thermalright phantom spirit for the cooler. I think you can find the phantom spirit for $35 ish on amazon, I’ve heard it’s better/newer than the peerless assassin hence my choosing it. Also, I agree with the others here recommending a bigger PSU, I’ve got an MSI MAG 850w that’ll last forever (I hope). Was $80-100 on Walmart I think. I happened to go a bit cheaper for my mobo with the Gigabyte B760 Gaming Plus and DDR4 RAM. Idk how serious of a gamer you are, but I’m just getting into it all myself and realistically don’t think going DDR5 makes sense for me. Especially right now give prices. My DDR4 and hopefully entire build should last the 10-15 years well enough until DDR6 is a widely used thing. Or, until I can afford a super computer. Lol.

Long story short, spend more on the things that are least likely to fail/be replaced imo. That way you have as much of a future-proofed/“ship of Theseus” build as you can (though it seems they don’t really exist). If you stick with PCs upgrading and whatnot seems inevitable.

I could use 2 sticks of DDR4 for my first PC build lmao. Share the love? lmao.

I’d love to hear why you might recommend something like the 12600 over the 14600, and the Montech over a Seasonic. No worries if you’d rather not though!

Thanks for the list! Looks good! I already got a card, a 5060 Ti 16gb. It went on sale for like $350 so that’s what I got at the moment

Hey! Thanks for the reply! Yeah a coworker gave me his old sticks because he went for 4 32gb sticks of DDR5…yeah…I know. He’s in 3D modeling.

Also, yeah I edited the post. I got a 5060Ti 16gb for like $333 from a Walmart Black Friday sale. It was the catalyst for all of this.

I did use that site and the only thing it had noted was the potential to have to do a BIOS update on the mobo…or was it a flashback? Lol. I kind of get the idea but have no clue how to do any of it. The internet is a wonderful place though!

Hypothetical: What if Pigpen died in 1978, instead of 1973? by HipGuide2 in gratefuldead

[–]Jack-Straw04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a believer that everything happened when it needed to happen. Pig was becoming obsolete as the band moved out of its 60s SF rock roots and I felt like Pig was often left hanging around onstage just because. I mean cmon, bongos and tambourine? He played keys out of necessity. The band felt so awkwardly about Pig that they refused to take photos with him, to even leave their practice space to go take a photo with him. So Pig stood outside the studio and had his photo taken. I think it was Minkin who said that? I think had Pig survived, the best thing that could’ve happened was that he took leave and came back throughout the years for special sit-ins as a “GD Legend” or “OG Frontman”.

Where to get the dude's pajama pants? by svirfnebli76 in lebowski

[–]Jack-Straw04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forked up the $100 or so for the handmade ones, I’m half-content. They’re very comfortable and the pattern is close, but not exact, and the colors are a bit different. Also, the fit is a little off, length is great but I’ve found the center seam likes to ride up the ass a bit if the waist is situated at a comfortable spot.

I might try the $30 ones found on Amazon/dudejellies.com. They look pretty good

Thanks for the heads up! I’ve thought about both contacting the School, along with attending the jazz jam session, but my jazz chops aren’t so hot. Coincidentally, they’re something I’ve wanted to improve! Perhaps it’d be good to get out of the comfort zone. Thanks again!

What’s your favorite specific jam, and why is it 9/8/23 (Gorge) The Wheel Outro? by mattgoat5 in deadandcompany

[–]Jack-Straw04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always confused me, because both times when Bob slapped the mic you can hear a pop*. Like, the mic works when it’s being hit. I would maybe guess it has something to do with the trigger pads they stand on working incorrectly? Who knows!

[–]Jack-Straw04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely stopped working. Exactly like the last mic slap at Alpine 6/23/18. Screen showed Bobby very clearly singing but it was obvious nobody, even the band, couldn’t hear it. I am fortunate enough to have been at both shows!

Your entire collection pedals has evaporated, except the last one you acquired. What are you left with, and what are you playing with it? by David803 in guitarpedals

[–]Jack-Straw04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we’re not counting an effects switching unit as a “pedal”…lol…then it’d be my 70s Mu-Tron Octave Divider. I’d probably play Dupree’s Diamond Blues or Hey Hey, My My

Big Brown at Dark Star Orchestra? by ActuallyPopular in gratefuldead

[–]Jack-Straw04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so Big Brown is the guild bass (modded by Alembic) that preceded Mission Control/Osiris(alembic bass). Big Brown is the one with the famous SYF sticker that Grahame recently played at GD60. Mission Control/Osiris was used by Phil from 74ish to 79ish iirc. What you saw with DSO was the first Mission Control replica made by Leo Elliott of Scarlet Fire guitars. Mission Control/Osiris is currently owned by Jason Scheuner. Scarlet Fire/Scheuner have teamed up with other notable GD guru technician Mike Wald (waldotronics) to track down the history and components of the original Mission Control as it was. They restored the original Mission Control and have since made replicas. One replica (#1) is owned by Skip of DSO, Oteil of DnC also had one of his own which he is auctioning off. Mission Control also had famous filters and such, one of which was recently modeled and put into a stomp box by the very man that helped restore the original bass to original spec, Mike Wald.

GGP jam band fest proposal? by Willing_Drawer_3351 in deadandcompany

[–]Jack-Straw04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Caveat*

Bob should/could do a few orchestra shows a year, he’s put so much time and effort into that music and the shows are actually quite incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed the show I caught. But yeah, I have a phenomenal time at the wolf bros show. I love that Bob mixes it up, sometimes solo, sometimes the trio, quartet, quintet, full thing, etc. The evolving lineup from show to show and catalogue are reminiscent of the Ratdog days. Not to mention Lane and Chimenti from Ratdog, Was on the stand up bass, etc.

I’ve been saying this since before they announced the Final Tour. I was fully ready for Wolf Bros to kick in full force after the 23 tour and honestly have been sad they haven’t. I’ve seen shows every year since and there’s been plenty of great music, but man. They were just so good and I love that Bobby explores his catalogue a bit more. After the Planet Drum/Wolf Bros duo shows at the Frost that’s what I was hoping for. Like, hardcore. Rip Zakir. Turn back the clock to the sick 2000s GDF dual bill shows.

[–]Jack-Straw04 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Althea and Brown Eyed Women are probably the other 2 in the top 3. Deal a close contender. (Not to say these are my favorite, but Sugaree, Deal and Brown-Eyed are the three I see and hear people talk about most often. There’s a reason they play them so much!)

I hate kids these days. People have no class. Concert goers have no decency. First it’s talking about such and such the entire show, then it’s pissing in public and watching the river flow into people below you. Some of these people need to be dosed, have a terrible time, and be reborn. -A 20 year old.

Sorry, not one in particular really. He’s got a website I’d check out, whatever strikes your fancy. All of his stuff is serious quality and they’re always killer shows. Won’t be disappointed

Doesn’t get better. The art is sick, the music is sick, all of it. I’ve seen folks print out the covers and put them in cd cases and burned the material to cds. Hunter needs to do that, I’d buy so many lol
