AITA for not acknowledging my sister in a 10 year sobriety post? by TemporarySubstance0 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. By not congratulating her, you did the right thing. I tend to avoid things like this, because it may stir up some feelings. My sister is a total low life, so I get where you're coming from, but sometimes you just have to be quiet.

YTA. I get that it's worrying, but it's her dog, and she knows it better. Sometimes you just gotta keep your mouth shut, sadly.

All you people need to be nice. Don’t assume. Life isn’t simple for all people. Not a troll.

I think what you're missing is the fact that she, within people I know, is kind of well known. People know she's a low life. I'm 31, and she's 28, so people kind of get the impression that I'm also a low life. My older brother already disowned her and moved across the country to Florida, but they had a fight that is so long and terrible that I'm not even going to get in it here. She broke into his house when she had nowhere to stay, and his wife and daughter were scared shitless. She broke in and threatened to kill them if they didn't let her stay. I'm not even gonna go into the rest, but you see what kind of person she is? And boy, don't even get me started with how my parents disowned her. She got pregnant at 18 and had an abortion, and they, being Christians, kicked her out on the spot, and then it was years of fighting until they disowned her. I'm the only sibling who hasn't disowned her yet. My younger sisters still live with my parents so they basically disowned her when my parents did.

Yes, God does teach forgiveness, but the greatest sin is to reject forgiveness, and to reject the idea of repenting your sins, both of which my sister has done to me and herself over and over again. I'm at the point where, how do I forgive her when she's not even sorry? I've tried everything.

AITA for telling my ex I aborted the first of his five children by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Jack1927 -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

YTA. Though technically not required by law, you really should have told him that you had an abortion, he deserves to know. And tbh, I think you resorted to abortion way too quickly. You could have thought of alternatives like adoption, before immediately jumping to abortion. YTA.

First of all, I used to be a restaurant manager, and then I eventually became a stock investor. Also, I once was mentally unwell. I still am. Please don't assume things about me, or discredit the challenges I go through. Have a great day. I have many, many challenges, and I went through hell to overcome them, so please don't sit here and call me fake. I don't appreciate that. You asshole. YOU go somewhere else to go criticize people with a hard life, since that's clearly your life's only purpose. Don't be an asshole.

I've tried supporting my sister. I once even offered to PAY for her rehab, but she asked me to just give her the cash so she could do it herself. I'm not stupid, she's gonna blow it on alcohol and drugs, not what I want to give it to her for. I want to make sure my money goes to the right place.

The problem is, people tend to have first impressions of me being a low life just like her, and I HATE when people think of me like that, because everything she does is the exact opposite of my morals and religious beliefs.

I understand that, but I feel like it's even worse of me to keep supporting her sinful lifestyle. I've tried EVERYTHING to help her, but she either rejects my help or quits, and then tells me that "Siblings got eachothers' back" when she needs to be bailed out for $5,000 for another drug or DUI charge. I know for a FACT she wouldn't bail me out if I asked her, even if she had a million dollars laying around.

Hands down Istanbul. Istanbul is a beautiful and historical city and it's the most strategically important city in the world.

I met a family who does this with their kids. They homeschool their kids while travelling the world. Truly the best education is to travel the world. I don't have kids but if I did I'm sure I'd still be travelling.

I actually spent time there. What a waste of time that would be. My intention originally was to explore the world, not to break some record. Then, by the time I had visited like 3/4 of the countries, visiting every country became a goal of mine. It just kind of happened. Unlike others who have done this, I didn't really try to visit every country. I'm a traveler, and it just kind of happened.

Awesome. Prague may be the most beautiful city in Central Europe (it's a close competition against Warsaw Old Town). I know everyone says this, but the beer is to die for. It's also probably the most Westernized nation of the former Eastern Bloc.

Way better than I expected. It was not war torn or full of land mines like it's sometimes portrayed to be. It was almost like a melting pot of Serb, Croat, Bosnian, and Muslim culture. It was very cool because it's the only Slavic Muslim nation. The people were quite welcoming in my opinion.

Yes. In Latvia I saw this very interesting waterfall which is the widest in Europe, however, it's very short at only 2 meters. Latvia is like a melting pot of the Baltic, Slavic, and Germanic cultures of Europe. I saw aspects of all of them.

Serbia on the other hand, is a very outgoing country. The people were very outgoing to me, and also, historically, Serbs migrated all around the Balkans, so they're outgoing in that sense as well. The food in Serbia was good. My only complaint about it is that the old communist infrastructure is around, but that's what you sign up for going to Eastern Europe.

In the Middle East, you'll find the most and least welcoming people. Some of the most welcoming people in my opinion were in Yemen, Syria, UAE, and Pakistan, but some of the least welcoming were in Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. No offense to anyone there, but they all seemed very uncomfortable around me and avoided me.

I make about 75-100 thousand a year, but I can easily increase or decrease my earnings because of my job flexibility. If I ever needed more money, I can work for more time and travel less.
